Re: 10/18 - 10/31 Games Discussion Thread
Man Wizards just lost their talent in OT. Fought all game to get back in it. And then just missed like 4 fts and had 3 really bad turnovers to end it.

Should've been 4 really bad turnovers but they were bailed out on the 5 second violationComment

Why even bother playing Kawhi at all. All this load management does is mess with other guys' minutes and create all around inconsistency with gameplanning and player roles. Just play him when he's 100 and go all in. Oh right, they pretty much can't tell him what to do at all, so they have zero choice.Comment

But I guess as long as they win it don't matter. But Kawhi was saying he doesn't play pick up ball anymore.Last edited by jeebs9; 10-24-2022, 12:15 PM.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

I just want to clear up. I wasn't blaming JC here. I was talking more about the side of Zion getting hurt. He actually banged his body there. JC made the right play in my opinion. He just got his block. Zion got to protect himself as you said.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

10/18 - 10/31 Games Discussion Thread
Ringer put up an article about Russ that pointed out some stuff I didn't even realize watching live..
Lakers had an 8 point lead when he checked back in (4 and a half minutes is enough time to blow a lead regardless though). Portland used Nurk to guard him lol (Clippers also stuck Zubac on him). Bron and AD are both standing with their arms up with a "WTF" look when Westbrook doesn't even wait for them to enter the half-court before launching up the 2-for-1 jumper. Greg Brown from Portland jumps off the bench in celebration before even seeing that Russ missed the shot..
Then they include this tidbit:
Russell Westbrook has made 3 of 17 jump shots this season.
Also, he is the only player that has attempted a jump shot with under 30 seconds to go and 15+ seconds left on the shot clock with their team up by 1 possession in the last 4 seasons.
And this:
Through three games this season, opponents are contesting jump shots by Westbrook only 41.2 percent of the time. According to Second Spectrum, that’s by far the lowest contest rate in NBA tracking data history, which dates back to 2013-14.
And this:
To put Westbrook’s 41.2 percent contest rate in perspective, only two other players on record have had less than 50 percent of their jumpers contested: Joakim Noah, at 48.7 percent in 2013-14 with the Bulls, and Andre Roberson, at 48.8 percent during the 2016-17 season with the Thunder. This season, Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon’s 60 percent contest rate is the league’s second lowest behind Westbrook’s.
Defenses are ignoring Russ more than they’ve ignored anyone over the past nine seasons.
At this point they've got to just move on.. Yes he's been made the scapegoat for an awful team. But he's hurting the team and the team is hurting him, his reputation, and probably his mental health at this point as well. I wasn't all-in on the idea they should trade him because all the returns still leave them as a pretty bad team IMO. Best case scenario was they figured out enough to get some good out of his strengths to negate the bad... But at this point, addition by subtraction for both sides.Last edited by ojandpizza; 10-24-2022, 02:43 PM.Comment

He has always had a bad jumper. I don't remember a guard of his caliber having as bad of a pull up game as he did during his OKC days. But he was able to get away with it due to that explosiveness and ability to get to the line and convert. He went from 10 FTA a game converting 84% to 5 FTA converting 66%. That is 5 ppg right there. Back then you can sag off him and he didn't care, he's still going full speed to the rim and elevating. Even if he doesn't have a shot he could get the foul call. Today either he lacks the athleticism to elevate or the confidence to convert at the line (probably a combination of both) so he is settling for jumpers. All that does is guarantee him a spot on Shaqtin-A-Fool each week.
(it also helped that he was so ball dominant, so if the D consistently sagged off it just opened all the passing lanes and made for a completely passive D. But with the Lakers he finds himself off-ball and there is zero drawback to sagging him off the ball. WB instills ZERO fear as a catch and shoot guy, its the Rondo treatment)
John Wall isn't a good fit for the Lakers either, but he would've been better than this. They should have pulled the trigger on that trade.Comment

Re: 10/18 - 10/31 Games Discussion Thread
Whether it’s being on the Lakers or not, his efficiency across the board seems to be getting worse year on year, he’s shooting more per 100 possessions relative to assists and his true shooting has been hovering around 50% for the last couple years after previously being around 54-55%, which isn’t even phenomenally efficient either (Curry and Lillard during injury impacted seasons both had TS% of 55% or over)
The only thing that has actually improved is his raw number of turnovers
It feels like he’s just hit that point in his career now where his mind and body just aren’t aligned anymore. He thinks fast, not smart and he’s lost some of his athleticism which is exposing h the lack of finesse to his game and his decision making
