Whether it’s being on the Lakers or not, his efficiency across the board seems to be getting worse year on year, he’s shooting more per 100 possessions relative to assists and his true shooting has been hovering around 50% for the last couple years after previously being around 54-55%, which isn’t even phenomenally efficient either (Curry and Lillard during injury impacted seasons both had TS% of 55% or over)

The only thing that has actually improved is his raw number of turnovers

It feels like he’s just hit that point in his career now where his mind and body just aren’t aligned anymore. He thinks fast, not smart and he’s lost some of his athleticism which is exposing h the lack of finesse to his game and his decision making

It seems like the Lakers are playing him just for the sake of playing him.

Not saying the guy is garbage. But reality is reality. Melo had to eventually come to terms with not being a starter and trying to be a spark off the bench.

Buy the guy out already.

Its not a drop across the board. The drop in his TS% stems almost entirely from the decrease in FT%. His eFG was above his career average. eFG is TS lite. It adds extra weight to 3 but doesn't factor in FT% like TS does.

Some stats per 100 possessions. First number was last year, second number career average:
ppg 25.8, 32.5
FGA 22.1, 26.5
rebounds 10.5, 10.5
assists 9.8, 12
FG% 44, 43
3p% 29, 30
2p% 48, 47
FT% 66, 78
FTA 7.1, 9.8
TO rate 5.3, 5.8
usage 27.3, 32.1
Assist% 31.6, 41.9

Most of that is inline with his career.

I'm not sure Russ even works off the bench at this point. Not that he works well in his current role either. Melo at least had size and was a more pure scorer. Russ still thinks he's a triple double PG and wants the ball in his hands. Move him to a rebuilding team with no weapons and he'd probably be better off. Wouldn't have to find for the ball with LeBron, or rebounds with AD.

All of the stuff with the Lakers doesn’t really matter for me anyway, I just don’t like Westbrook lol

More importantly, I had no idea Mitchell was THIS good. He’s already just taken over as the guy (which actually will help DG on his return as he was overworked last year) and we’re getting good production through 3 games from the role players, particularly Cedi

Okoro is still a major concern. He could actually do with some G League time, he’s way off what we need offensively right now and in such an offense heavy league, I don’t think a defense only wing can cut it. LeVert, Wade and Cedi can rotate the 3 spot when Darius comes back

The same thing you’re saying about Russ(wants the ball in his hands)applied to Melo also, let’s not get revisionist here. It wasn’t until he got to LA where he then decided to switch up mainly because well…what other option did he really have.

End of the day, they need to just give him the Rockets/Wall treatment and just sit him until they can decide their next move. But then once he’s gone, then all the attention will be right back on the rest of the roster and how…well, you’ve seen it outside of Lebron and AD.
