    Re: 2024 Offseason Thread

I have no mixed feelings about this whatsoever. And it puzzles me that the majority of Knicks fans are completely bent out of shape about losing Divo.

I get the nostalgia, good story, Nova bros., etc. But that stuff doesn’t win chips. Great for chemistry and the locker room for sure.

But once the Knicks acquired Mikal, Divo was expendable.

I think people are dismissing this fact simply because we haven’t seen Mikal on the floor yet with this team. He’s a huge upgrade defensively and can still space the floor and create his own shot.

As for Randle, he is who he is and it would take a huge concession for him to change his game for the type of play we need.

He’s too-ball dominant when we’re already have a ball dominant PG. And with Mitch out until probably February, I cringed at Randle trying to play Center for an extended period of time.

Randle has only been good every other year for some strange reason and he’s still not even fully healthy to play.

Very strange roster in Minny. A Randle/Gobert front court is a disaster waiting to happen.

Towns- off rip I hate the contract and his knees.

But he fills an immediate need, spaces the floor properly, and doesn’t need the ball to be effective.

I think the Knicks upgraded. I think they’re better today than they were at the end of last season health aside.

Fair trade for both teams but I think Minny should flip Randle. Naz Reid is a better fit for them IMO.

Word on the skreets is that DiVincenzo was not at all happy about a reduced role with the addition of Bridges. So not sure how things would have worked out for y'all Knick fans out there with him anyway without this move.

Probably on the higher end of the salary spectrum for someone that doesn't jive with what they are going for.

That seems to be it. Simply getting rid of someone making lots of money.

Speaking of ESPN, sounds like Jeff Passan could be one of the candidates to replace Woj.

What do you mean to replace Woj? Passan does baseball, Woj's replacement is Shams (just not at ESPN).

My bad Maj, just read the report that Passan might change to basketball.

That's quite something, that Passan thinks he could just switch sports like that, with how chummy chummy he has been with Woj since his retirement I guess Passan would inherit all (or nearly all) of Woj's connection? Like this would be a deliberate thing Woj would do to set up Passan, because he likes him and/or hates Shams that much

Good call, it was from the draft trade 4 years ago to get Stewart, sign and trade with Houston to send Christian Wood to Houston...

and it has been moved several times since. The Rockets traded it to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2021 for the draft rights to Alperen Sengun, and the Thunder sent the pick to the Knicks in exchange for the draft rights to Ousmane Dieng the following summerUntil the pick conveys, the Pistons are limited by the NBA's Stepien Rule and barred from trading a future first-rounder. Cue up the trade machine with the Timberwolves.
what's the Stepien rule and why does the trade machine with Minny factor in? Would Detroit become the trade partner for Randle? Googling the rule is confusing, if Detroit traded the pick 4 years ago, why would they be subject to the one year trade stipulation and also be considered a trade partner

unless I'm misinterpreting and the trade machine with Minny was more a general comment and not related to Detroit

True. That's why I'm not doing handstands over this deal like a lot of NY fans are doing. Wait and see....

The Jalen McDaniels trade tree is one of the stranger ones I've seen in recent memory.

At the draft the Kings traded Davion, 2024 2nd, 2025 2nd and Vezenkov for Jalen McDaniels.

Now just under 4 months later they traded McDaniels along with a 2nd to dump him on the Spurs to clear up salary/roster space.

Did the Kings actually mistake him for Jaden the first time around and now realize he's useless so they just dumped him during preseason.

I’m loving that Memphis is letting Edey play in the post. Dude is polished.

They were close to hitting the first apron on the luxury tax, I believe, so they salary dumped him to save some cash.

He's really been in a downturn since leaving Charlotte, so who knows if he'll get a look elsewhere.

I would say that Kawhi keeps stealing from the Clippers, but the Clippers had the chance of letting this guy go and instead triple down and gave him an extension which some argued was justified because they wanted stars for when they opened their new arena. So Clippers, keep donating.

Has the timetable for his return been pushed back?

Yeah. They kind of ****ed themselves over attaching themselves long-term to George and Leonard.

They tried to 'course correct' by letting one walk, but it looks like that was a huge mistake. Should've moved on from Leonard or traded both trying to acquire lost draft capital.

Instead, the ship is sinking and they are stuck with the guy that has a shot knee.
