they could play a zone down low and have man to man on the arc. I think Dallas is just too slow right now. They need to find some speed to keep up with Suns' fastbreak. Forget Amare, if Dampier doesn't step up, he's gonna do good. The 3's are taken a toll on mavs.

I don't think that will work. Basically what your saying is that they should just keep 1 man down low and play man to man otherwise. Thats pretty much what they are doing now.

In all honesty, a small ball mavs squad scares me a bit. I'm not worried about Dirk guarding Amare because I don't think he will be able to, in fact Amare may put dirk into foul trouble, but I don't think we would be able to guard a small ball team very well especially since I want the Matrix on Dirk. Amare would have to guard Dirk and that would open up the paint, and a small ball team would have a better chance of limiting the suns half-court game however than I would assume that Phoenix would crash the boards. It should be interesting to see what Avery Johnson does.

Does anyone feel that Dallas is still right there with Phoenix after game one? I didnt get a chance to watch much of it and from the sounds of it I didnt miss much in terms of competitive gameplay. I believe Dallas should be putting Nowitzki on Stoudamire, he is the only one on Dallas that is not only tall enough to alter some shots from him but can move his feet better then someone like Dampier, I honestly think if they benched Dampier and started Stackhouse that Dallas could win, of course coupled with Nowitzki defending Stoudamire. I dont want to sound like I think I know everything but if I was Dallas I would put Nowitzki on Stoudamire, Howard on Marion, Terry of course on Nash, Stackhouse on Johnson and Finley on Richardson and go with that small lineup which will also help to get back on the fast break when Phoenix likes to run. This also might wear down Amare since he will be forced to come out and defend Nowitzki since he cant defend any of the smaller players. What is your guys' take on it?

I watched the game on and off because I was drugged up on hydrochodone (legally of course). Anyway, the whole season I thought that the Suns were over-rated, but after watching the first game.........man I dont know. If Dallas gets blowed out again the series is over. I really think the Mavericks will either win this game or barely lose, but again if they get smashed then its over.

I can't believe they called a flagrant foul on Stackhouse. First of all, the block looked good to me. Unfortunately, when someone lands akwardly, NBA refs 9 times out of 10 are gonna call a foul.

Secondly, dude fell hard because he hung on to the rim. Where they get a flagrant, I don't know.

Mavs are finding out what they need to do to beat this team....Make Nash score 40 points, because if he's the one taking all the shots, all the other guys aren't getting into a rhythm, make him shoot the ball.

The officiating was horrible both ways. I was there and was booing just about every call. When the refs called that flagrant I nearly jumped out of my seat. Sure i'm a Suns fan but you have to be kidding me, those guys were watching another game.

Ya, that flagrant on Stackhouse was complete BS. Sucks that Johnson is hurt though, he's a huge part of our team, b/c he runs the point when Nash isnt in. Anyways, it's a heartbreaker tonight, but hopefully we'll get 'em back at American Airlines on Friday. Freakin' Michael Finley couldnt miss dammit!

If I remember correctly,Marion was originally on Dirk but I think they did in fact make a switch and Matrix got screened off.Q did a good job on Dirk but Dirk is just too big for him.Maybe if Marion was defending him he could've bothered Dirk more cause of his length.

what the...the mavericks beat the suns in phoenix????!?! LOL I missed the game after the 1st quarter when Dallas was up by 13 or something. But wow, I'm glad dallas won, even if it was by 2.
