Well, it's party time boys.
My biggest concerrn to be honest is the departure of Kurt Thomas. And not his point or rebounding production. He seemed to be one of the only ones that played with heart and passion every second he was on the floor. By far our toughest player. And you remember his patented glare.
Our team lacks that killer instinct. That knife in the throat mentality to either step on a team once they're up or lead them back if they're down.
Who delivers that hard foul to send a message to the rest of the team?
My hope is Trevor Ariza. If Brown gives him quality minutes (Penny inactive & Q-Rich banged up), I hope he sparks that fire. He seemed alot more physical in the summer leagues and preseason. Saw him bump a few guys after getting fouled. So I hope he really comes through.
Time to see what we're about.............!!Comment

Re: 2005-2006 knicks thread
Tough loss. We played ok for most of regulation, but the missed free throws and getting dominated on the boards killed us.
Just didn't show up for OT at all.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: 2005-2006 knicks thread
Welp, 0-1 to start. They just didn't show up for the OT. Celts were pumped.
The Ugly:
-Missed FTs
-Defensive Rebounding
-Turnovers
-Interior Defense
-Jamal Crawford
The Good:
-Shot selection for the big men
-3PT shooting
-FT Attempts
Good game. The Knicks were able to get Curry easy shots. He started to go up too lazy as the game went on, leading to getting blocked or turning the ball over. He finished with 19, 8 & 2. If he hits his FTs, it's a different ballgame. I thought Marbury tried to take over when he had to. He played a controlled game. Q-Rich was a suprise to me. It's obvious he was hurting as he played limited minutes and was seen getting iced on his back on the bench. I cringed with every 3 he took. But he made them.
Jamal Freaking Crawford. Seemed to play such a good game early on. Until he went into AND-1 mode.
Antonio Davis played well, suprisingly to me. He'll be a key piece.
Oh well, off to the 1-0 Wizards on Friday.Comment

Re: 2005-2006 knicks thread
Very Tough Loss. I hate when the knicks lose period, but these games hurt the most. Marbury under 50% from the line...I still cant believe that. Despite the rebounding differential, despite the 21 turnovers, the knicks should have one the game. Gotta take them when you can. 19, 8, 2 from Curry was more than I expected in his first game. The Knicks look a little tentative out there. like this group of misfits and they will need some more time to Gel. The mistakes that they made may be easy fixes. They made a pretty good commitment to Defense. Friday, lets wipe the floor with the wiz on Fri.Comment

Re: 2005-2006 knicks thread
Couple of notes:
1. Curry may actually end up being the piece of the puzzle that Isiah envisioned. Just taking this game into account, Curry plays a lot like Shaq did in his early years. It was obvious as the game grew tighter and accountability came into play that Curry needs to develop a baby hook IMMEDIATELY.
2. Crawford has Larry Brown in his head. Almost instantly after heaving up a shot with the Knicks down by four and only about 5 seconds shaved off the clock, Crawford put his head down and tried his best to not make eye contact with Brown. Trust me, that's a good sign.
3. Back to Crawford. This time I also add Richardson. If the Knicks continue to play inside-outside basketball, the Knicks could potentially have two Richardsons compared to only the one that the Phoenix Suns had last year. Crawford might be a better spot shooter from the arc than a creator off the dribble.
4. Offensively, it's Larry Brown basketball. This was obvious in the first quarter. Biggest thing the Knicks need to work on is sticking to his plan. In the fourth, Larry got aggravated and took a hard seat. Very difficult to be the coach and your players just fall into old habits during pressured moments.
5. The players do indeed buy into Larry Brown. With 20 seconds left in the game, the Knicks called a timeout. As Larry Brown came into the middle of the huddle EVERY player in the proximity paid attention. Even Q, who was not going to be in the play, seemed extremely interested in what Brown was going to draw up.
They look up to Brown and the result at the end of the fourth quarter got Brown some more believers. He drew up a great play for Marbury to drive the ball and then had his team rely on the veteran, Antonio Davis, to hit the big shot.
Though the Knicks collapsed in OT, it is obvious that Brown will have a positive affect on the players."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: 2005-2006 knicks thread
^^
You could see when Pierce went to the line with about 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Marbury went to Brown and said Call A Timeout? And Brown just shook his head No, Trust Me. Seemed like Marbury was pleading with him.
What happened? Pierce missed one, the Knicks didn't call a T.O., they ran a play for Davis, he scored and they still had that timeout left. After the Celts missed a shot, Marbury got the ball with 2 seconds left. If he was aware of the situation, he could've called their last timeout which Brown didn't waste earlier.
Brown definitely has a feel for the game.Comment
