Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars, asked via text message moments before the game if there is a trade brewing for Stuckey, replied, "Not at all."Proud member of the OS Bills Backers.

Dislike! Thumbs-down!
I hope Dumars is just playing it close to the chest for now, because if he seriously isn't entertaining offers to unload himself of an inefficient volume shooter like Stuckey who clearly isn't helping his team win (we are noticeably better without him), he should start getting his resume together before the off-season...
One wonders whether Boston is in "blow-it-up" mode at this point, or if they're still gonna try to squeeze one last playoff appearance out of their nucleus...Comment

I would think with the addition of Calderon, BK moves to the 2 and hopefully that means Stuckey gets traded. Speaking of which, what do you guys think about that move?Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Hope Calderon does well in Detroit. Stayed with Raptors for 8 years. Through their worst and best seasons. Witnessed VC leaving, then Raptors win atlantic, then Raptors do bad, Bosh leaves, and Raptors do even worse.
He's really an underrated PG, just sucks he never really had much support. One of the best assist-turnover ratio guys in NBA for past number of years.
And after every 3 point shot made...

If they don't try to flip expirings for real talent, they should try to resign Calderon. They'll have some room anyways to try and sign others guys.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Good move by the Pistons. No question. Much love and respect to Tayshaun, a loyal Piston and great contributor to the team for over a decade (I remember when we drafted him...god I feel old). The Prince of the Palace will be remembered fondly and welcomed back by the fans for the rest of his playing days.
But this is about severing ties with the 2004 title squad (we SHOULD be referring to them as the 2004 and 2005 title squad....we really shoulda won that second title with this group) and moving forward. I've been saying for 2 years I have no idea why Tayshaun is still on this team - not because I don't love the guy to death, but because he had no obvious role on a team that was perpetually rebuilding and he wasn't a central "Franchise" player you were ever gonna build around. He's a really solid, complete basketball player that if you put him on a contending team, instantly makes them a threat to win a title. But if you put him on a team of rookies and sophmores who are years away from doing anything worthwhile, he's being completely wasted. Right now, he's moving to a team in a playoff race, and his experience and defensive skills will really help that Grizzlies squad. He has a chance, now in the waning years of his career (did I mention I remember him at Kentucky, and that I was feeling ancient? Oh yeah, I did....) to really make a push for another title, something that was never gonna happen while he was still a contributing player in Detroit. Bottom line for Tay is it's sad, but sweet at the same time. And it also proves that the days of guys playing for 1 team their whole career are over - if anyone in the modern game was gonna be that guy, I thought it was Tayshaun. I wish him all the luck and success in the world, and thank him for his years of loyal service on some truly great Piston teams.
I wonder a bit about Austin Daye - I feel like he never even approached his ceiling, and it seemed like this year he was really starting to break through a bit and show what he could do. He seemed the obvious replacement for Prince for many reasons (not the least of which being that he looks just like him in terms of body dimensions on the court), so packaging him with Prince in the deal is a little confusing, but who knows what went on in those negotiations. I think he's a wild-card: he could turn out to be a really important piece for Memphis or someone else down the line. I really hate giving up on draft picks within 4-5 years, but if that's what it took to get a deal done, so be it. This may also be a blessing in disguise for Daye - maybe he gets more PT and can really blossom with more minutes. I always thought he could be a good player, and I stand by that. I hope he does well. Just not against us.
I have to admit, I always hated Calderon and his trash-talking ways. He just seemed like a little agitator that I wanted Maxiell or someone to squash like a bug. He's a better-than-average distributor, though, and could really work well with Drummond and Monroe. Theoretically, Knight could move to the #2 spot, although I like the idea of him learning to be our PG for the long-haul, so I'm not sure if this changes his development arc or not. It will be interesting to see how it all works, and the best part is that it's a free rental. Let's see how the team runs once we have all the kinks worked out. If we gun down Boston for the 8-spot in the East and get a serious look at this configuration of guys, we can make a determination about what to do with the cap space. Frankly, I don't even see the name "Calderon" on the back of the jersey; I see "Expiring Contract".
I'm sad but excited at the same time. It's always tough when the last of the Mohicans from any title team leaves, but having said that, if you aren't changing you're dying. I'll be interested to see what the 'Stones do for the rest of this year and in the off-season. I don't think they should bother to try to get anyone flashy; just get someone that can run a good PG or that's a solid scoring wing. That's how we built the '04 team - no one batted an eye at us acquiring Rip Hamilton (for Stack, no less) and then the next season signing Chauncey Billups. Those weren't huge, earth-shaking moves. But in the right hands, in the right circumstance, it worked like a charm. Now, whether we have the right hands on the wheel or not is another thing altogether...but for now, we'll leave coach Frank be and see what he can do the rest of the year.
All in all, a good night for the Pistons future, if a bit of a sad one for their present.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
If Stuckey is the next to go, this season will be a complete success regardless of what else happens down the stretch. If Joe D can sucker anyone into taking that guy off our hands, it will go a long way toward rectifying some of his bigger errors. We have to get rid of that guy; even moreso now that he doesn't even seem to have an obvious place on the team in the wake of the trade. Every day we pay that guy to play for us is a wasted day - ship him outta town for a ham sandwich.Comment

lol pie don't feel old, I remember Prince at Kentucky too, and also remember drafting him and thinking "nice pick, he might contribute some day".
I've always liked Calderon b/c of his assist/TO ratio, which currently seems to be one of the biggest issues with this team. I'd like to keep him unless he's a complete disaster the rest of the year.
Now we need to get that elusive wing somehow.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Prince going to the Pistons was the reason I became a Pistons fan. Before that I really wasn't a NBA fan, but loved UK (Still do of course), but I started watching the Pistons right after he got drafted, and they've been my team since. Prince used to be my favorite player, but I don't really have one anymore, but it still is bittersweet to me that he got traded. That being said, the Pistons need to either tank to get the possibility of getting a wing at the top of the draft, or go for it and get the #8 seed so Charlotte can have our pick and we get our pick for next years stacked class.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Agree... I really think we can contend for that #8 spot - correction - we should compete for that 8-spot. If we just go into the tank and have another meaningless season, unless it's an epic tank-job intentionally to get a higher draft pick, I think Lawrence Frank should get his walking papers. I hate that the Pistons go through coaches like Kleenex at a snot party, but when it becomes obvious that this dog ain't huntin', you gotta be ready to make a change. The key is to actually get someone that can coach...

I agree about the coaching thing, we just haven't found a good coach that fits since Larry Brown. That is another reason I wanted Patrick Ewing instead of LF. Ewing had no head coaching experience, but if anyone was going to get the most out of Monroe (and now Drummond) it would be him imo.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals
