    Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***

Not to mention the fact we're giving away a guy who is always a threat to break scoring records, he tied the 3 point (single game) efficiency mark last year right?

I'm really not sure how I feel about this. If the obvious plan is followed and CV catches the amnesty, that gives Joe D money to spend again. I'm not exactly anti-Dumars but I'm weary of giving him cap space again

    Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

Still though, why trade away a contract with only 1 more year (player option) to pick up an expiring, while giving up a 1st?

I guess it signals more moves to come, but if nothing else happens I'm not big on this deal. Maybe Tayshaun gets moved next?

Gotta agree with you there. I mean, getting rid of his contract is a good idea in general, but having to give up a first-rounder to do it is a bit discomforting....he had 2 more years, I think, left. Unless Dumars really thinks Maggette is going to be a contributor (seems dubious), or he just wants 1-year and then dumps the salary, but even then....

I doubt they'll amnesty Charlie V...doesn't seem like the new ownership is pumped about paying a guy off just to make his salary go away from the books, and I can't say I blame them. Just let Charlie V ride out his contract, since no one in the league is likely to want to pick that salary up before the contract expires.

I'm all for moving Tayshaun; he has no real reason to be on the team at this point, as we're clearly in full-on rebuilding mode. As I said before, I think Monroe and Knight are untouchable, and everyone else on the roster (maybe not Jerebko...I just like him) is available for the right offer. Including Stuckey, who I just flat-out don't like...

100% Satisfied with this draft. Did the best we could and addressed need. Would like to have another PG at some point, but we can address that at another time.

Can't complain. Got our "BIG" Drummond, solid shooter in Middleton and a good defender in English. Love the size!

Yep, I was totally content with Henson *unless* Drummond slipped to us.

I was hoping for a depth PG too, like Machado, but still I can't complain.

Do you guys think Dumar will amnesty Villanueva to open up roster space? We have drafted 6 guys the past two years, and we need to sign a backup PG.

My personal opinion is "no", but that's based on nothing other than sheer guesswork on my part. I say that because when you amnesty a player, my understanding is that their salary comes off your books (for salary cap or luxury tax purposes), but you still owe them their salary for that year unless you come to an agreement on a split with another team that claims him off of waivers (if anyone does). Tom Gores has not seemed overly anxious to throw money at problems just to make them go away (as it pertains to the Pistons, anyway), and I can't say I blame him. Villaneuva's contract expires after the 2013-14 season, and it seems likely we are just going to ride it out unless some opportunity to dump it arises (unlikely).

It's true that the roster is filling up, hence the move to decline the option on Vernon Macklin today. I personally think he could be a decent player, so maybe it behooves us to make a qualifying offer and stash him in the D-league if they think he isn't ready yet, but that's neither here nor there for this conversation. In addition, not all of the guys we've drafted will ever suit up in the blue-and-red; Kyle Singler, for example, doesn't seem like he is going to ever see the court on this side of the pond (which I'm fine with). Assuming Ben Wallace retires before this season, we have at least 2 guys whose contracts are up after this year. I think we should be okay.

But I honestly wouldn't mind if they would throw a little good money after bad and rid ourselves of Charlie V.....maybe they're saving their amnesty for some other, yet-to-be-made horrible deal in the future. They do have 10 years to use it.

I wonder why a big guy would want #1. Would be interesting if it got retired (probably not) in a few years and we had both Drummond & Monroe using retired numbers.

I really think if Drummond meshes well they could fight for the 8 seed this year.
                              PG: Knight

                              C: Drummond
That isn't a bad starting 5 at all. Knight/Monroe/Drummond are all young players with a lot of potential.

Starting five looks good. The bench is Jerebko, Daye, Maxiell, Villanueva, Bynum, and Magette, plus any 2nd rounders that make the team. We still need to add a backup PG (IMO), which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they amnestied C-Vill for roster space, but who knows.
