As much as I don't like Singler because he is a dookie, it is great to see him step up and play well. C-Vill has 2 years left on his deal right?Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

It was just so surprising. Anyways, they have looked a lot better lately, and if they can play like this for the rest of the year, they might even finish .500Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Read the ToS, guys...flamebait arguments only. Especially in the pro hoops forums...
I have no idea how that blowout win happened, but the team does seem to be playing better...I hate myself for wanting Singler to do well, and someone tell him to shave his head or something, but if he can keep being productive...
I just don't trust the last stretch of games, though - Lawrence Frank always seems to be able to put together some kind of run to make the end result less ugly, but at the end of day whatever was the problem that led us to start 2-10 or whatever is still there. I hope I'm wrong, though. We need to first see some consistency, then I'll start believing. A little.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Went to see the boys live at Barclays in Crooklyn last Friday....hell of a game, beaten only by a Joe Johnson buzzer-beater in double OT. I wonder to myself why we can't exhibit that kind of tenacity and fight night-in and night-out? I know it's tough to have that much energy all the time, but the complete lack of consistency is a problem Lawrence Frank needs to address sooner rather than later. I also wonder why we continue to have stretches every game where the other team goes on insane 21-1 runs or whatever, leaving us huge holes to dig out of.
I'm getting less and less sold on Lawrence Frank as well...observations from the game last Friday:
- Frank is not an X's and O's guy, I don't care what people say about his religious devotion to film study and background as a strategy nerd. We had 2 chances to win the game outright in regulation and OT, and failed both times. Both times, the "play" we ran was Stuckey at the top of the 3-point line in an iso with everyone else clearing out. That was it. No Singler spotting up for a kick-out, no Monroe inside-outside high-low screen, no semblance of any actual thought, other than the classic NBA folly of "clear-out and go get us 2 points", rightfully skewered in the "hero ball" column from ESPN a while back in a rare display of actual sportswriting on ESPN...
In ESPN The Magazine, Henry Abbott writes that the surefire way for a team to fail in crunch time is to put the ball in their money player's hands.
Larry Brown or Rick Carlisle never would have let either of those situations happen. That we failed to win the game twice isn't a crime in and of itself (although you rarely get 2, and never 3 chances in the same game to win outright on one possession), but the way in which we failed is.
- Frank shortened the bench to borderline criminal lengths in OT and 2OT. Basically, for the entire last 5 minutes of regulation and all OT's, we trotted out Knight, Stuckey, Tayshaun, Maxiell, and Monroe, with about 5 seconds of Singler at the end of 1OT. They were clearly tired legs by the end of the first OT, and he essentially rode the team to exhaustion which was most visible on the defensive end by the end of the first OT and continued into the 2nd. I realize you want your best lineup on the floor as much as possible, but you should at least make some offense-defense subs in there somewhere and have some plan for expanding the bench in a game that goes that long. We couldn't get any rebounds at the end of the game, and that was just tired legs more than anything. Why wasn't Drummond or Kravtsov or Daye in there to spell guys, even for 90 seconds or so? In a game that long, you have to expand the bench just a little.
- Above decisions led to us getting pounded by Indy the next night...
- Overall lack of cohesion on the offensive end, with most possessions coming down to contested drives to the hoop with no kick-out options or heavily-contested 15-foot jumpers. That's no way to play basketball.
I see the potential in the team, I just don't see Lawrence Frank being the guy to unlock it. I hope I'm wrong, and it's still relatively early, but it seems that our potential is being somewhat stifled at the moment by questionable decision making and a lack of true X's-and-O's strategy. Seriously, those clear-out iso's at the end...my least favorite thing about the NBA in a nutshell.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Pistons' bench has been lighting it up recently.
I also heard that the Pistons are interested in DeMarcus Cousins. Drummond, Cousins and Monroe? That would be outstanding up front. It would be like when the Lakers had Odom, Gasol and Bynum.Last edited by rdnk; 01-02-2013, 01:18 PM.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
So Frank has finally discovered his roster actually has more than 6 guys on it? Progress!
The bench has talent, as has been on display lately. I still think it's folly to play NHL basketball with essentially whole-sale line-changes alternating seemingly arbitrarily, but it's better than what I saw 3 weeks ago. I'm glad to see Charlie V playing well - now someone please get unnecessarily high on him and offer to take him off our hands!
No on Cousins from me...that's that last guy we need on this team. His talent doesn't seem worth it to me.Comment

Don't look now, but the Pistons are actually playing some decent basketball...
