    Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***

Yeah, I vaguely recall hearing about the Raptors dealings...the whole Ben Gordon and Charlie V thing, I just...well, it's better not to re-visit it at this point. I can see what Joe D was trying to do, and if I'm being totally honest I fully supported it at the time (if I wanted to be embarassed I could probably fish out the posts where I applauded the moves...), but at this point there's no sense denying that the moves were anything other than an abject failure.

I know I'm totally down on Shabazz all the time, and from a talent/potential standpoint I definitely think it's a great match for us, but having fairly closely followed both his recruitment to UCLA and subsequent year there, I just think he's a head-case and not a good guy, and would not be the kind of guy the 'Stones need around their franchise and relatively young core. I'm not saying you have to be Mother Theresa to be functional in the NBA, but there's a limit to the cancerous nature of your attitude/personality that certain franchises can tolerate. He might be fine in some locker rooms and some franchises where they're used to that kind of thing (Lakers, for example), but history suggests that those kinds of guys don't do well in Detroit. I have no questions whatsoever about Muhammad's talent, I just don't know if it would work for him on our team. We'll see what happens next month....

it was a joke, but at the same time it wasn't.

No question his skill set would be useful. I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to take a flyer on him if it came down to it, but the bottom line is I don't think it'll work for the Pistons (or Shabazz). It's just not a match.

          Unsubscribing from this thread.

Done with this franchise until Dumars is taken out back and given the Old Yeller treatment - you know, the same one he's given this team.

          Finished.

We were one damn pick from getting McLemore. That sucks. I wish we would have picked McCollum too instead of KCP. I watched him play quite a bit this year and wasn't impressed.
Tony Mitchell is a solid pick in the second round. He has a ton of potential.

It sucks that McLemore was taken at 7, as he would have been ideal. The situation happened where all the best fits were gone, and from what I found Pope was probably going to be the guy. McCollum is too much like Knight, and they still believe in him as a PG so Burke and MCW are out. Shabazz has issues, so he was out too. Narrowing it down by elimination, Pope was their best player taking need and other things into account. I also imagine that this means that Calderon is out. I'll reserve judgement on Pope himself until he actually plays.

Tony Mitchell sounds like a boom/bust guy. Peyton Siva could be a spark plug off the bench.

Pistons still need Wing and probably a couple bench guys. I just hope Dumars doesn't screw it up.

Upon reflection (after cooling down), I actually don't mind this draft. I didn't want KCP but I suppose he does fill a need. Mitchell and Siva I think were great 2nd rounders. I know guys are gonna bash Siva, but he was picked up at the end of the 2nd round, so it's not like he's expected to do anything. Mitchell could have a role with us, and given time it could expand.

I didn't like KCP because of a perceived "lack of effort" on D. You see him in videos get caught up on screens and basically give up. He'll overplay passing lanes and create some transition buckets for himself which I guess makes him a good defender?

Plus he's not a good ballhandler and blah blah...

I know this is a weak draft so I'm not going to complain about picking a dude that helps fill a need, but Burke was available damnit!

I wasn't high on KCP at all when I saw him play. Part of it could be the team he was on was awful. Who knows. I'm guessing this means they are going to try and make Knight a PG now though?
What do you guys think about getting a SF in free agency? We are set at the 4 and 5, and I think with a good SF we could at least sneak into the 8 seed.

I'm sorta hoping we give a good luck at Iguodala, but I have no idea what type of contract he's looking for, probably big bucks if he opted out of $14M.

I want Knight to improve so bad lol, if he can re-establish himself as the PG of the future then we'd be set at all 5 positions if we signed Iggy, assuming KCP doesn't bust.

They also have to make sure the bench doesn't regress. Pistons were 7th in the league with 37 PPG off the bench, 8th with 15 RPG and 8th with 8 APG. They did all of this while being middle of the pack in minutes per game with 18.

Yeah, I have no idea how to evaluate this draft. To be perfectly honest, I really don't know anything about anyone we drafted (other than Siva). I hope KCP pans out, and it seems that Mitchell could be that athletic wing we've needed. But I really don't know. Plus, it's probably not worth evaluating a draft until 2-3 years down the road (and even that may be too early).

The bottom line is we have need at just about every position, but the back-court was the most necessary. I also felt gypped when Sacramento took McLemore 1 pick before we were going to take him, but I guess it was too much to ask for him to drop to #8. I've said my peace about what I think about Burke, but honestly, he probably has a chance to be a very good PG in the league in the right situation. For his sake, it might even be better that he didn't get drafted by Detroit.

No matter what, we're still 2-3 years away from being legitimately competitive, especially in the rapidly improving East. We're just gonna have to stay patient and hope we're building the right way. But if we have to suffer through a few more seasons like these past 3-4 have been without any discernable sign of improvement, we might have to do this all over again and clean house...

I saw that we are interested in Josh Smith. That would be idiotic, considering we already have a better PF in Greg Monroe than him.

What about playing Smith at the 3? Drummond-Monroe-Smith would be quite the front court.

I don't get it either, much rather go after Iggy. Not really interested in playing Smith at the 3, no need to give him the free reign to launch threes.
