Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
The moves the Pistons need to make during this offseason are obvious and has been discussed here time and again. But I want to add that I would like to see Kyle Singler play for the Pistons next year over Austin Daye. It would be nice to see Daye moved for a future draft pick or something along those lines.
I also want to see what Vernon Macklin for the rest of this season. He put up some really good numbers during his short stint in the D-League.

Dumars has a very sketchy track record when it comes to the draft (and that's putting it nicely). Not surprised at all that Austin Daye is a trainwreck. Cleaves, White, Darko, Sharpe, Daye, all epic failures.Comment

Anyway, even had we drafted Melo, Wade, or Bosh, would any of them still be on the roster today? And would we have won anything more than we did in the interim?
Having said that, I don't actually think this current Pistons team is that far off from being decent. There are signs that a competitive team is in there somewhere, and among the lottery-bound teams, I don't think you could ask for a better nucleus than Greg Monroe-Brandon Knight-Rodney Stuckey (although I kind of dislike Stuckey...IMO we overpaid for his services, and he's basically a volume scorer which is not all that rare in the NBA). They have to get to the point where they're more consistent, but they are already starting to be competitive on a nightly basis (that Hawks game notwithstanding....).
I have no idea why they re-signed Tayshaun (or Stuckey for that matter), but in my view, Monroe and Knight are untouchables, Jerebko is a keeper, and everyone else on the roster is fair game for trade bait or salary dumps. If it doesn't cost too much, Maxiell is useful as a hustle and glue guy. I'd ship Daye out of town for a ham sandwich.
Depending on what happens with the draft, they could add some depth, and they'd really be on to something, I think. A lot of success in the NBA has to do with timing, so maybe we'll be on pace to make our ascent just as current giants are falling/re-tooling. Which would be fine by me...Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Clearly a season of two unequal halves; first half- 4-20, second half- 21-21. We'd only be two games out of the 8 seed with a .500 record. If Dumars can draft an impact rookie, then we could potentially sneak into the playoffs next year.
Also, nice sendoff for Big Ben.Comment

Re: ***Official Detroit Pistons Thread***
Agree...but Dumars is definitely on the hot-seat now. I've been a defender of Gentleman Joe for a long time, but given the disaster that the team became in the past few years, he needs to prove he wasn't a one-hit wonder...and he needs to do it sooner rather than later.
I have mixed feelings on Big Ben...in 2004 he was one of my favorite Pistons of all time, even reaching the rareified air of the likes of Isiah, Billy, Ricky...but then he bolted for the cash in Chicago (can't blame him, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't color my view of his post-Pistons career), proved himself to be more-or-less a product of the Carlisle/Brown defensive system while doing nothing to address his overwhelming offensive defeciencies or expand his game in any way (and proving no better than the other spoiled-brat NBA types with his petulant headband row with Skiles), journeyman'd around the league to Cleveland, then found his way back home, where he was part of a completely undeserved arrogant, entitled group of spoiled brats that embarrassed a regal NBA franchise by running coach after coach out of town and culminating in the completely inexcusable "player boycott" last season. I mean, I never thought I'd see the day, but his post-2004 career has at this point eclipsed all the good will he'd built up prior to that, and at this point I wouldn't even consider myself a fan of Wallace's anymore. Whatever happened to that shy, quiet, hard-working guy that was glad for any minutes he could get and only cared about "goin' to work"? It seems like a lifetime ago...
At this point, it's not clear to me that he should even have his jersey raised to the Palace rafters (although he certainly will)...I mean, to have him up there next to Thomas, Laimbeer, Dumars...he hardly fits in the constellation if you ask me. But then, nobody did, so I'll just pipe down...Comment
