2006-2007 New York Knicks: Explosion or Implosion

    Explosion:
2 : a large-scale, rapid, or spectacular expansion or bursting out or forth

    Implosion:
3 : to break down or fall apart from within : SELF-DESTRUCT

    -------------
That's the best way to describe this year's feast or famine bunch of New York Knickerbockers.

    Projected Starting Lineup:
    C- Eddy Curry
    PF- Channing Frye
    SF- Jared Jeffries
    SG- Steve Francis
    PG- Stephon Marbury

    Rookies: Renaldo Balkman, Mardy Colins

No one really knows what will happen with the squad this year. I think every knowledgeable die-hard Knick fan has come into this season with the most sensible and rationale outlook in unison: we'll have a young, athletic, stubborn, undiciplined, flashy, guard-heavy, overpaid group of players rounding out the roster with not much hope for consistent success this year. This combination might actually make the Knicks enjoyable to watch this year knowing in the back of our minds that we're just not good enough to beat the elite (or even some of the subpar) teams of this league.

I actually liked the offseason. I thought Balkman was a reach in the draft. However, I think he's exactly what this team needs (perimeter defense, a ballhawk, a rebounder, a board crasher, a floor diver, a reckless Forward who doesn't look for his own offense). Coupled with the pickup of Jared Jeffries who should fill the same role although splitting time with Quentin Richardson, our perimeter defense and blocking should pick up this year.

Isaiah has tried to mimic the Phoenix Suns style of ball and I think this will benefit Quentin Richardson the most (Jamal Crawford second, David Lee a close third). Run and gun won't close out games for this team but it will be an upgrade and better use of the roster than the piss poor job Larry Brown did last year.

Nate Robinson has a decent chance to become a bonafide backup PG if he cuts down on his turnovers and realizes that a pass is a smarter decison than looking for his own shot most of the time.

Channing Frye, if he worked on his post up game over the summer, can be a good 12-15 PPG PF this year. He has bulked up a bit, however, he needs to show a little bit more than just a jumpshot this year.

David Lee, surprisingly, can be a stat hog in this style of play. Alot of upside and potential here if he gets consistent minutes.

With that being said, the downfall of this season will come down to - Curry, Francis and Isaiah. Yes, I left Marbury out simply because despite all the negativity, I think he has more heart than the 3 combined.

Curry looks like a fat pig if you've seen the preseason games. Listed at 285. No muscle definition, no nothing. Francis is a shell of what he was at Maryland. Yes, I'm going back that far. I despise this guy and wish he was never on the roster. He looked horrible last year, this preseason and everytime I see his face. He brings nothing to the team and he'd be my 12th man if I were the coach. And lastly, Isaiah simply because he created this mess.

My prediction: 39-43 and 9th in the East.

NEW YORK -- Jared Jeffries, counted on to help shore up the Knicks' defense, will miss six to eight weeks because of a broken left wrist.

Jeffries was hurt last Friday against New Jersey in his New York debut and had an MRI exam Sunday. Knicks coach Isiah Thomas originally said that Jeffries would miss three to six weeks, but the longer prognosis was given after Jeffries saw a hand specialist Monday.
Let's hope we can get these injuries out of the way early. It'll mean more PT for Rose, Richardson, Balkman and Lee (PF/SF).

In other news, the Knicks improved to 3-0 in the preseason with a 116-108 win over the Boston Celtics.

        Knicks waived Jalen Rose today.

I have to admit I like the direction this team is going. No sense in having older players sit on the bench and just complain about their lack of playing time and mess with team chemistry.

It is interesting to note that Isiah has dumped 2 guys who would have had trade value at the deadline because both guys were expiring.

Good move to waive him. I guess Isiah is finally tired of sending expired contracts for bloated ones. Next year, I think the knicks salary cap will not look so bad.

Good move by Isiah. Rose really wouldn't fit in to our offense that has too many guards in it, plus he can't play defense.

$14 million to do nothing, how I envy Jalen Rose.

I just checked the highest salaries, and Marbury makes more money than Tmac, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Dirk, Pierce, and Marion. Just to name a few. I knew he made a lot of money but that's insane. Who gave him that fat contract the Nets or the Suns? I envy Marbury for not having near the talent any of those guys have but getting paid like he does.

At one point last year or the year before I believe the Knicks had three of the top seven highest paid players in the NBA, and all three sucked.

I believe it was Houston when he was still under contract, Marbury and Penny.

Knicks spreading the ball around. Eddy beasting on the boards. Knicks playing like a team. I likes, I likes.

Those Starbury sneakers are not a good look. Steph messed up his ankle in the preseason and again in the first game.

I saw what I feared most from the Knicks last night. With a big lead in the 4th quarter their offense looked awful and they rushed way too many shots and took too many poor shots. They need to learn how to play w. a lead (not that they'll be in that situation that often ) and use their heads.

There was one stretch in the 4th were Crawford and Francis jacked up two quick shots then friggen Frye of all people shoots trey from the top of the key w.o his feet set and w. like 19 seconds left on the shot clock.

Phew, but a win is a win, esp on the road.

21 points, 8 boards and 4 blocks from Rudy!!
