Newsday saying that the Knicks aren't going to save the cap room for next year. If we can't get Lebron, we will try and trade for Parker, sign one of the big men, and go after Johnson or Gay.

Walsh said a few weeks ago that he wasn't going to blow the cap space on guys that he didn't think were worth it. We didn't give away our next three draft picks and tank two seasons to have Joe Johnson as our go to guy. Plus Johnson and Rudy wouldn't pair that well with Melo, who'd be our #1 target next summer.

I'm not a member at Newsday so I couldn't read the full article, were there any quotes from Donny or just Hahn speculating on his own?

Hmm, I'm not a member either but the whole thing came up for me. No quotes, mostly speculation.

I'm confident that Donnie won't panic and throw money because he feels he has too, but I'm not as confident in his ability to determine what players are worth it. Personally, I think only Lebron and Wade are really worth the max, and then there's a few other guys I'd give it too if it would convince Lebron or Wade to come. Not sure what Donnie's opinion is on the 2nd tier guys.

            Re: NYK 10: The Crossover

            It's all speculation from Hahn.

There's a couple things wrong with that article anyway. If we S&T Lee for Parker, Parker automatically ends up filling one of our max contract slots this offseason, so there's no way we pair Gay and Johnson up beside him. Memphis says they'll match anything for Gay, and I think to pry him away would be to overpay him. So it'd either be him or Johnson. I'd rather have Gay over Joe but not at that price.

We'd also need to throw in Chandler+Walker or someone in order to make the contracts work so we don't lose all of our cap flexibility this offseason.

The good thing is that Parker comes off the books next offseason putting us in position to sign a max guy there.

The thing I wonder, though, is if we end up waiting until next offseason to sign a big name, why even make half of those trades we did? We could have kept Effries and Hill and our draft picks.

Simply, that's just the risk we took. Had to be in it for a shot at LeBron and/or Wade.

I hope you're right - that's what got the Knicks in this mess to begin with.

                  I can't see the article but I'm calling b.s.

First of all, Walsh would be run out of town if he mortgaged the farm and came out with Rudy Gay.

Secondly, Tony Parker does not make us in any way shape or form a better team. Even Tony Parker + Bosh IMO does not make the Knicks a contender. Parker's been too banged up too recently for them to go after him hard.

Third, Melo already has hinted at re-upping for 3 years with the Nuggets (glad cuz I don't want him anyway).

Here's what I think is gonna happen:

Wade stays in Miami and gets Boozer.

I think LeBron will only go where he can play with Bosh. Stay with me on this.

I don't see how Chicago can swing a S&T for Bosh as they'd only get garbage back.

Toronto's going to want to get the best frontcourt player they can get back IMO. I think their best trade partners for Bosh are going to be Dallas, Houston and NY.

I'm taking Dallas out of it because no way Cuban signs off on trading Dirk...even for Bosh.

Houston doesn't have the players to trade. They have picks but that's not enough and they're not going to be able to pawn Ariza off to no one.

                  NY has All-Star David Lee.

Now, back to my point about LeBron. I think the loss to the Celtics did some damage to his ego & image of himself. I don't see him going to Chicago to play with another player who needs the ball (Rose) and a big who can't score on his own shot (Noah). He's going to play where he feels he has legit help because he's not gonna want to walk off a court hanging his head like he's done the last 2 years.

Where Bosh goes...LeBron will follow IMO.

DX predicts us to take Darrington Hobson and Lance Stephenson in the second round. They don't take team needs into consideration yet I don't believe and taking two swingmen would be overkill.

NBADraft.net has us taking Tiny Gallon and Jordan Crawford.

I, for one, DO NOT want Tiny Gallon. Sure, he has a cool name but I don't see how he'd fit in D'Antoni's offense. He seems like the type of guy that will be plagued with weight/conditioning problems his entire career. Something we know well.

Jordan Crawford? Yes, please. I remember watching Xavier-Dayton and Crawford make big basket after big basket. Same for in the tourney, he can flat out score the basketball. Plus, who better to couple with LeBron?

Dominique Jones? Yes, please. Combo guard that can flat out score. Better size than Toney Douglas, plays solid D. His stock has skyrocketed over the last month from late 2nd round to late 1st. If we can get into the first round, we might be able to get him.

Terrico White? Yes. Another combo-guard. Seems a bit raw and will need some time, but some of the best physical tools available for a guard. 40 inch vertical, 3.7% body fat, 6'5, 6'9" wingspan, ran the 3/4 sprint in 3.15, .01 slower than John Wall. He can shoot the ball well too, has good form, but can be passive.

I'm not really sure about bigs. I like Trevor Booker's toughness, I feel he could be a very good piece to a championship team like Jason Maxiell.

Jarvis Varnado would be a good defensive big for us.

Craig Brackins would be great for D'Antoni's system, a stretch 4 that can handle the ball a little bit and gets buckets.

I like Brackins, but we may need to move-up to get him. Another player I like is Hassan Whiteside from Marshall. This kid has SLEEPER written all over him:

Whiteside isn't a sleeper, he's been hyped up and his stock is actually dropping.

Yea I saw this yesterday. Chances are we'd have to give up something else, Curry for Okafor and Collison is highway robbery. Maybe Curry and Chandler.

I would agree, though when the Okafor rumors first popped up in April the consensus was that we wouldn't give away Curry's expiring just for Okafor, which surprised me.

I wouldn't do it. No way. No how.

                              Have y'all seen Okafor's contract?

If he could give us 20PPG I'd do it in a heartbeat.

                              But this guy is getting $11M in 2010, $12.5M in 2011, $13.5M in 2012 and $14.5M in 2013!!!

                              Who gave him that contract??

Collison is good but nah...I'm straight.

We need some sort of defense at the rim. Where are we going to find it? It's certainly not coming in the draft this year. I also don't think there's any chance that Bosh comes here without a true 5, he has no interest in playing the 5 and having to do all the dirty work at this point his career. We need a defender and rebounder.
