And Gay is only restricted, and Memphis says they want to keep him.

Boozer is also a free agent.

      Uh huh.

I saw this coming during the spring of 2009. At that time people were expecting to be a mass exodus of free agents going from one place to another when the summer of 2010 comes around, but I fully expected that many if not all big name free agents will not move around to other teams. Now as July 1, 2010 approaches it's becoming evident that all of them except for Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh and possibly Amar'e Stoudemire are expected to re-up with their current teams.

And you guys can count on David Lee re-upping with the Knicks. That team is fortunate to be able to have him back as a fallback option. He has become a hell of a player.

It's funny - in all my 2k Knick associations, Boozer is the only free agent I'm able to get. Watch NY do the same thing IRL. So we get Boozer, try to surround him with solid role players, then make the push for Carmelo or Chris Paul in 2011.

We could have a decent chance at obtaining Paul through trade since NO seems pretty high on David Lee. Lee+Chandler+Draft picks for Paul maybe? Idk. I also read that Toronto might be interested in a S&T if they can't keep Bosh.

Do we even have draft picks left to trade for Paul?

I know his name has been involved in trade rumors and I'd love to have him but I have a feeling Gallo will have to go with Lee though if we try to trade for Bosh or Paul and I'm not sure Walsh would do that.

Interesting write up/opinion from RealGM on our situation in the upcoming draft.

                Knicks Draft Needs:

The Knicks own the 38th and 39th selections in the 2010 NBA Draft, which is a draft in which there is a lot of parity between 20 and 40 in terms of talent. I also expect them to purchase a first round pick from Memphis, who owns the 25th and 28th selections. Possibly by parlaying the 25th and 38th, the Knicks will be able to nudge up even a little higher in the draft where an impact player is more likely to be found.

In an ideal world (the NFL world), the Knicks would be able to sort out the free agency situation before turning to the draft, but the targets remain the same regardless of who they end up signing. The Knicks are in dire need for a defensive center that can run the floor a little bit, not a type of basketball player that exactly grows on trees however. Earl Barron showed a little promise at the end of the season, giving the Knicks some optimism that there will be some less than fervently desired players out there that will be capable of contributing.

They also need any point guard with a pulse and a reliable perimeter jumper.

Atlanta was also talking about selling their pick to make as much room as possible to re-sign Joe Johnson.

I get sick to my stomach watching Brandon Jennings do his thing for the Bucks. And we expect Walsh to get the Knicks out of the mess they've become?

Walsh is great with finances, that's about it. He's never been an amazing judge of talent. He got plenty of flack for the Detlef Schrempf trade back in the day with the Pacers.

Granted that Jennings is killing right now and is an impressive talent, I'm not sure he's ever going to be on a championship contender. He's a one-man show but I'm not sold yet that he makes his teammates that much better. He sure can score on anyone at will though. Will he be the point-guard version of Jamal Crawford though?

At the same time, without drafting Hill he never would have been ale to trade Jeffries and free up all the cap space this summer. Though that may be a moot point since we likely aren't getting any good FA's this summer anyway.

It's not just a one-year plan. If Walsh can't land any of the Big Four, he'll spend wisely, try to make the team competitive, and push for Carmelo and CP3 in 2011.

Hmmm... I can actually see Chris Paul excelling in Mike D'Antonio's system. With his ballhandling skills, vision, passing ability and decision-making, Paul can do a great Steve Nash impersonation running constant high pick-and-roll plays along with maintaining the up-tempo pace that D'Antonio's offense requires.

As for Carmelo... eh, I don't think he would be as good of a fit. Melo is mainly an isolation guy who needs time and space to break down his defender. As good of a scorer Melo is, he would be too much of a ball-stopper in that offense.
