    Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

Listening to Felger today, he makes a great point: getting someone to choose you, a legit max guy, silences some of the critics about Boston not being a free agent destination. Horford was the first max guy to sign here and he left at his first chance. Kyrie was traded here and left as well. Gordon Hayward doesn’t give the Celtics or the City of Boston any clout because that was more because of Brad Stevens.

While I’m not sure I would want to max out Kemba, the optics of it all and having a max guy choose Boston is something that certainly matters to players around the league.

Take a look at the above CAP situation. In reality, we would have enough money for 2 max contracts. Of course, the max contract figures would factor into the CAP salaries so the the max contract for any certain player would affect who we could offer max contracts to as players. We could definitely take on Kemba's max contract as well as probably another player like Brogdon or Vucevic.

I would rather us go after Kemba & Vucevic than pursue Brogdon. We most definitely need a starting PG. Brogdon is a good player but we don't necessarily need him either. I prefer the FA PG like Kemba & C route (Vucevic) than Brogdon over Kemba. We need a true C for sure.

Now, Brogdon would be a great 2nd option after Kemba. He would also take less money on a possible max contract. Brogdon can also play SG which would be an extra plus playing behind Jaylen Brown. Kemba is strictly a PG because of his height.

Celtics cannot take on two contracts near or at max value unless Hayward were to be moved in a roster dump.

Yes they can depending on who the player(s) are they're signing to max contracts. You have to keep in mind max contracts are different for every player.

Some are higher & some are lower yet they all are pretty expensive. We can sign 2 certain max contract players plus still have room to sign our draft picks too as well as a filler FA if need be. Besides, how could we have kept both Kyrie & Horford if not enough CAP space for 2 max contract players like those guys would qualify for?

The max contract for the youngest players available - basically the current RFAs like Brogdon and Russell - have starting max salaried in the mid-$20s. You can’t sign two max guys with our current cap space.

I don't know who this guy is but no blue check mark means he may just be a fan. Just to humor him, I don't see how this is possible given Adams' salary and the fact that OKC doesn't want to take any salary back. Maybe a S&T but Horford would have worked, but he would have to be renounced to get Kemba so that's not an option.

The only other options are Kemba taking less than the max (not happening) or Hayward being traded a third team would have to be involved since OKC would be taking on more money and I just don't think that's likely. I'm also firmly aboard the "Hayward is going to have a bounce back year" train so I'm not even sure that I would want to trade him.

I'm hoping that Danny has something in store to get a center, if not I'm going to spend my day highlight from guys like Ed Davis and Vincent Poirier

I also don’t see how Adams gets here without giving a legit piece and that’s not something I’m interested in doing.

Would anyone entertain Marcus Smart for Clint Capela or Myles Turner?

The Celtics have emerged as the front-runners to land Hornets guard Kemba Walker once free agency opens on Sunday, league sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

We renounce Rozier & sign Kemba. That still leaves us with the $4.8 million exception to sign a true Center.

I wouldn't like that myself. Smart is now the leader for this team. He provides too much on the defensive end of the court despite his limited offensive contributions. Now, I will say that both Capela & Turner are solid Centers. Both can play each end of the court really well. We do need a true Center just like we need a true PG.

Looks like we're probably getting the true PG in Kemba. We have limited possibilities @ Center though. Smart or Hayward would be the only 2 players on the roster that we could trade to match salaries or combine Brown & Tatum which I would have a cow over. LOL!

Robert Williams is definitely nowhere near ready to be our starting Center. So, we will see what Ainge ends up doing @ the Center position once we get Kemba.

ESPN article on the Celtics turmoil 2018-19 season: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...-simple-boston

Here's what upsets/angers me the most from this article. Taken directly from the article:

"At the completion of the regular season, the team set up 100 balls in a room for their charitable partners. Everyone signed the balls except Irving. When pressed to do it, say team sources, he was neither aggressive nor confrontational. He merely said, "No, I'm not interested in that."

That irks me the most. Does Kyrie think he's too good to sign a darn basketball? That makes me wonder how much he's paid from card manufacturers to have his auto on a card. Geez! That's just selfish! What if he was told the signed balls were for charity? Would he have signed one then? Probably not!

I could care less even more now where he goes to play. We are better off without him. This is a shame for such a great talented player. His own actions & ways are going to be a problem for any team. Now I understand why Cleveland didn't mind getting rid of him.

Good riddance to Kyrie but honestly the Boston media should just stop. Everyone already knows that Kyrie is just out for Kyrie and dragging him through the mud now just makes them look just as bad. If they were going to drag him the should have drug him at the time instead of waiting until he was out the door. It reeks of bitterness and makes us look bad to other players.

With all that said, I don't know where Kyrie is headed but I will enjoy rooting against him for the rest of his career.

The part about him passing on a chance to sign basketballs for charity was an uncalled for cheap shot. Unfortunately this type of smear campaign happens often in Boston sports.
