Re: The 2015 New York Knicks: Year 1 of Life "After" Dolan
I actually like the top half of the current roster. I think it is well balanced in terms of depth and age. Gives some players a legit chance to develop. I also like the culture of this current group. Don't mind at all cheering for a hardworking team.
Melo simply does not fit. Him and Phil just need to be men and be honest about it.
Ship him to the Lakers for expirings and future picks. Melo would get his big market and a playoff shot (albeit an outside shot) and we get a clean slate.Comment

I really really think that Melo is traded next season if this one ends in disaster.
They had a plan together and part of it, imo, is moving Melo. But Jackson gave him his money so that's set in stone.
If they play well and can recruit help, he stays. If not, he gets traded without it being a big public demand.

I agree with this. And imo it reinforces that resigning him was the right move. If we don't make some big strides this year both sides can decide to move on, and with most of the league having major cap room next year, and an overrated free agent crop, there's going to be a lot of teams who can absorb his contract and who will feel the pressure to make a move. Even with his NTC, we should be able to get a lot more than we would have with a sign and trade last summer.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Dr. J was my favorite player growing up and I loved the early ABA days. Nets had some pretty decent teams back then.Comment

Jackson lost me right there. Reminds me of a couple of deals the Yankees made with fading stars and overweight pitchers.Comment

And how would we be better off? We'd have more cap space with no one to spend it on and we'd be on our way to 17 wins once again, except no draft pick this time.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

I do agree that with the new cap, other teams will be able to absorb his contract.
But let's face it. This season is just another throwaway season.
17 wins vs. 27-35 wins isn't anything to hang our hat on.Comment

Yeah that's why his trade is inevitable. They won't win with that group. It would be a miracle.
Melo can be a nice piece and perhaps bring at least a first round pick back.
I disagree that no one wants to play with him. I'm not sure when that rumor started but only fans say it.

A report is out that the Knicks fired their development league coaches because they weren't happy with Thanasis's development.
Confirms the Knicks are aware their player isn't ready. I wonder if signing him is to ensure he gets time to learn directly from the NBA coaches with Jackson's close watch.
Just hope the kid isn't a bust.

I don't see any reason he can't develop into a defensive guy with some sort of spot up ability. In the very least, he plays hard and is a good athlete.
