I am pretty sure that that is the same control scheme as fight night. The hooks and uppercuts you had to rotate the sticks up, but the jabs and crosses were just flicking the sticks up. I really didn't have a problem with the fightnight control scheme except for the haymaker concept. I loved the previous EA boxing titles(I think it was knockout kings) punch scheme and especially the fact that you could be winning the fight and you leave yourslef open, you could get KO'd or KO the AI with one punch. It was rare, but when it happened the screen went black and you knew you were just KTFO. Then you'd see Mills lane counting you out or sometimes I think he just waived it off.

Re: 2k's boxing game set to be announced tonight...
I only played round 3 once. I rented it to try for myself and put it right back in the box and cursed EA because I could have bought a Qdoba burrito instead of renting that garbage. But in round 2, yeah you kind of had to do an arc. I was ok with that though. It was the cocking back the haymaker and walking around the ring like a first grader that made it ridiculous. The perry was a bad idea, but I liked what it represented, if you go all in on a punch and your opponent sees it coming and puts up the proper defense, or ducks it, you should be hung out to dry. I like that aspect, it was just implemented wrong.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: 2k's boxing game set to be announced tonight...
Never understood why people thought the right stick was so great in Fight Night. It was actually the most unrealistic control device I have seen in a sports game. There really is no difference in effort between a jab, hook, and uppercut. It is about angles and choice. But the right stick makes all the punches fundamentally different by requiring effort.
2K should focus on angles, stamina, and defense.
let me add.......
....the control scheme and movement of the boxers road series(starting with the ps1) is better than fightnights. the movement and flow of fightnights fighters was far to robotic.....
....the fact that you couldn't let your hands go(flurry) unless you connected with a shot 1st also bothered me,
..... the inability to clinch
why is this such a hard sport to capture???
i hope 2k can deliver because we desperately need a solid boxing title..Last edited by mr_president; 12-13-2007, 02:12 PM.Comment

You're right. The control scheme had a lot of complicated moves ("fireball" movements) to throw uppercuts, hooks, and haymakers.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Yep, they made throwing an uppercut the same as SubZero's freeze move in Mortal Kombat. It is a joke.
As Money mentioned, or at least what I think he did, is if you use the control stick to punch, do not have rotating, just have different areas of the stick represent a punch. There should be no requirement of rotating or clockwising or whatever.
Then just hold right trigger or whatever to modify it to an uppercut. Whatever.....it is not that complicated, but Fight Night made it unrealistic.Comment

How was Rocky more "sim" than FN? As I said, you could throw nothing but jabs and beat the game. The AI was so dumb and exploitable it was just sad. The only motivation to play through was to unlock the movie sequences. Rocky was an arcade boxing game, and a cheap one at that. And i'm one of the biggest Rocky fans on earth. FN3 was certainly no gem, but EA certainly has a MUCH better track record than Venom.Comment

Re: 2k's boxing game set to be announced tonight...
After some thought, 2K Sports are bunch of idiots. They pick a cover star for their boxing game that is the most polarizing character behind the scenes in boxing. Lennox, the Klitschkos, and others do everything in their power to avoid King. I see putting King on the cover as limiting in 2K's ability to get as many of the great boxers as possible. I truly hope I am wrong, but not a smart business decision.Comment

Re: 2k's boxing game set to be announced tonight...
I found the Rocky games superior to Fight Night.
The stamina and punch technique of the game were far superior. And it was more sim than Fight Night.
Where Rocky was real weak was moving and punching cohesively.
The button layout may be dated, but I will take dated and realistic over novel and unrealistic everyday. Fight Night control scheme is comparable to pressing more buttons to shoot a three, throw a pass past 20 yards, etc....
Which one, Rocky or Rocky Legends. Let me know I'll try them out.Comment

Re: 2k's boxing game set to be announced tonight...
I thought Legends was superior though they are the same formula more or less. But I would just wait for 2K as comparing Fight Night and Rocky Legends is like debating on two ****ty frozen pizzas.Comment

But to non-boxing elite, he's seen as a tremendously entertaining character. I'm sure that was the thinking behind signing him as their poster boy.
However, it truly will not be a Don King game unless your fighter can get screwed out of millions and tossed in the gutter once his worth is used up.Comment

I see where you're coming from on the standpoint that Don King has actually hurt boxing and it's athletes more than he's helped.

I hope I am wrong, but when the game gets headlined by Samuel Peter, Tito, and Mayorga, I am going to be sick.Comment
