    Re: Official Slider Discussion Thread

    acts238shaun,

just wanted to let you know that I've been playing through my legacy with your GOAT slider set (having power knocked down to 7 as I mentioned before).

I have had some great matches. I've been knocked out, won by knock out, gone to the score cards, and have had two fights stopped:

1st-Stopped in the 8th round. We were tied on two score cards through the seventh and the third had me ahead by 4 points (my manager must have him on the payroll). We each landed a right hook at the same time. His put me on the mat, scoring him a KD, and mine opened up his cheek bringing the fight to an end. Good thing, because I don't know if I could have come back on the points after that KD.

2nd-Stopped with 18 seconds left in the 10th and final round!!! I was down on all three cards 86-82 (pretty ugly, I know). I would have definitely lost that one if not for his low head toughness.

I never thought I would be playing on GOAT, but it has given me the best fights so far. I definitely have to scout my challengers before the fight so I can exploit their weaknesses and fight smart. Very, very smart.

I love it! Thanks so much to you, Parker, jukeman, and everyone else that has worked so diligently to provide sliders for every skill level.

edit - Now it's time to get my face pounded in by James Toney (Champion). After that last stoppage I moved up to 9 in the rankings and he challenged me for the easy win. Even if our overall ratings are at 89 and 83, how can I pass up a chance for greatness?!

Post Championship Fight Edit - James Toney wins. Score cards through 11 rounds 105-103 105-102 104-103 . . . All in my favor. Round 12 the fight is stopped with 1:11 remaining. TKO for Toney! All because I hit B during the corner game instead of putting my 24 points towards damage. I hate my thumb sometimes.

I may have to give these a try too.

I think finally finally have a set that can work for me...1st fight in my heavy legacy I put a guy down once in the 1st and once in the 3rd and he didnt get up. I was down on all cards because he put me down twice (don't know how I got up the second time!). Nice so far cj will report back further.

Well after trying um all I keep going back to ben and anks champion sliders .
I prefer them as I get all kinds of matches in fight now plus these are the only sliders I found that I can actually defend and counter after being stunned with my skill level cool stuff that I dont get with other sets.
I like the feeling at anytime you can get a ko or get ko or play defensive and drag it out the distance.
Does anyone think the stamina dlc will help game play greatly if so why?

Good to hear DiceMan, these sliders are very difficult as well, and you will run into some very tough guys on your way to the crown. As everyone probably knows in Legacy Mode there are a lot of cupcakes in there. So when I Knock those guys I don't really hold it against my sliders. I judge them off of fights I have with good fighters, as well as Fight Now bouts.

I'm enjoying your sliders. To be honest though, they don't feel much different from what I was using.

I wonder if the sliders are really all that effective.

Oh yeah. They definitely make a difference. I just had a bout (using act238shaun's GOAT set) that went the distance in my legacy. He was ranked 4th and I am 7th.

10 rounds, Punches thrown 577(me) 630(cpu), Connect percentage 45%(both), only 3 knockdowns through the whole fight--2 for me(1 flash KD from a haymaker in the 2nd) & 1 for the CPU, winner by decision was myself thanks to a 10th round knockdown. I knew beforehand my only chance was to go the distance and outbox the cpu due to his 95 chin and 97 heart ratings.

I definetely recommend shaun's sliders. Don't let the GOAT setting intimidate you. (Trust me, I am not that great of a player)

I was using yours, Parker, and enjoying them, but--like you--there were times that it just did not feel right. Now, I know that it is a matter of the opponents ratings and fighting style that I have to find weaknesses in and exploit.

However, the stamina rating does not seem to mean didly squat. So, don't expect to drag a fighter with 67 stamina into the later rounds and have him be tired compared to your 100 stamina. (I know from experience) Chances are the CPU will still have higher stamina regardless of how conservative you boxed and how well you evaded. Hopefully the patch will fix this. (You know, like the CPU slider patch/dlc for Madden '09 that EA discussed, but never released.)

Anyway, take a put some faith in yourself and try out shaun's sliders. It will be the best risk you ever took.

I've used sliders similar to Shaun's on CHAMPION and got my lunch handed to me. There's just no way I could play like that on GOAT.

Trust me, the fight on GOAT and on Champion is different. I actually feel better with GOAT than champion. The CPU fights smarter and more to the boxers style. I fought a few fights with my sliders in fight now before I went into legacy. I didn't bump the speed up to three until after ten or twelve fight now fights with different matchups and sliders (power vs speed, speed vs. speed, power vs power, tall vs. short).

I learned not only how to block a lot better, but I also learned some other things, all of which are true to life in boxing:

                        1. Don't always counter them when you can. They wait on it, especially later in the fight. The REAL AI works great with my sliders. You have to be smart and box. Have three strategies going into a fight. What you think will work, what you want do do, and then something in-between. Example: Stay away and jab in the beginning, become more aggressive in the middle, rush them and corner them in the end.

                        2. Defense is key. Use the bob, even if you don't weave (I hate how that's implemented in this game, prolly cuz I suck at it), tap twice on the L stick for back and side steps, block your head and wait for them to hit your gut (and nail them). These are varied tactics and I make use of them all. You can confuse your opponent on GOAT.

                        3. Tyson, Ali, and Tommy Hearns are some MF's on GOAT. Beatable though. I have beaten all three on GOAT by KO with my sliders. I just had to be smart and stay within my fighters abilities.

Just remember that Champion is a little more brainless that GOAT. Champion makes the CPU more aggressive for some reason, less smart, but there is a weird balance to them. It's not harder, just different. GOAT is great, it really is, and I am not that good, I promise.

Try ten to twenty fights on GOAT. Vary the matchups. Fight as Lewis vs Tyson (and vice versa), create boxers to fight with varied styles, giving them strengths that match their style, and fight with those guys. It makes for great practice and you would be surprised what you learn by doing this. Some of my favorite fights have been in doing this.

Thanks man, I appreciate the compliment. I give Juke credit. He convinced me to try GOAT and I am glad I have. It's worth the $60 I tossed down for this game.

In my first fight with shaun's GOAT sliders, I went almost 9 full rounds against Roy Jones with Joe Calzaghe. He knocked me down in the 2nd because I wasn't careful and he flashed me. He knocked me down in the 6th and again for good in the 9th because he just cornered me and I was already too beat up to fend him off. I rocked him a couple of times but couldn't knock him down. I won 3 rounds to his 5, but with the two knockdowns he was up 77-73 on all three cards.

Gonna take some getting use to, I don't know about this. Freaking hard, that's for sure.

Once you get used to them, there's no going back, lol. It will take time, but when you get the hang of them you'll them. If you have to, just take the power down to seven, that might help.
