Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Very unusually ending...A good fight as long as it lasted. I absolutely don't believe Brook wanted to continue and I think stoppage options were probably discussed with him and his trainer beforehand. As for the corner ending the fight at first I thought GGG broke Kell's orbital bone, but it might just have been a combination of Golovkin's power and Brook just being gassed.
Kell Brook's brand is pretty strong now despite the loss, as he apparently goes up to 154.Comment

Wanted Kell to cause the upset but I suppose as a fighter when you hit a guy with clean shots on the button and he dosen't fold it has to be disheartening.
It was only a matter of time before GGG finished the job if the corner hadn't stepped in.
Like you said his value has increased after a decent enough showing and I would expect him to win a belt at 154.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
EDIT: OK, I just read a report that Brook was quoted as saying he thinks GGG broke his eye socket. That was probably discussed earlier in the fight and explains a few things.Last edited by JayBee74; 09-10-2016, 07:44 PM.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
anyone else feel like Gonzalez lost? I'm talking just overall like a pride rules fight. I can't say round per round 10-9 scoring because I wasn't scoring, but all I can say is Cuadras beat him up a bit and did significantly more damage especially with his uppercuts right from round 1 and didn't really get credit until the momentum swing later in the fight, but he was landing that ish all night!Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
guess the corner is vindicated now we know about the broken eye socket....brook did all he could do but it just wasn't enough. give credit to brook to put his undefeated record on the line and even attempt to take on triple g. brook put on a good performance none the less. however, this fight does show triple g can be hit. maybe jacobs might take on triple g next, not sure who is left but you can only hold off canelo vs. triple g for so long.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
So true JB!
We all know Yellow isn’t going to fight GGG anytime soon. Especially after watching how easily he absorbed Brook’s best shots.
The 2nd round was a dandy, but I believe that’s where Golovkin broke Kell’s will as he landed several clean shots on the chin and Triple-G took them like he didn’t even know he was being hit.
Yellow probably saw that and started googling for ways to get down to 140 lbs.
Alvarez is considered a power-puncher by some, but he’s more of a volume puncher. I don’t think he has Grade A stopping power. And he knows this.
When he and Golovkin sparred a few years back, some who were present reported that while Alvarez landed some heavy shots, none of them seemed to phase GGG.
I think that’s the thing that weighs heaviest on his cowardly mind. He knows he doesn’t have the power to stop Golovkin and he knows he’ll have to absorb the most punishment he’s ever faced.
DLH claims that after his fight with Smith, he’ll fight one more time on Cinco De Mayo and then have a go with Triple-G.
But unless GGG shows any signs of slow-down or rust, I doubt it happens at all. As long as Yellow can continue to make 154 and rehydrate to 180, he’ll stay as far away as he can from true MW contenders.
I’m at the point where I’m not sure Alvarez could beat any of the top 160 fighters out there.
I’d love to see Brook vs Alvarez. I think that’s a very good fight, but I highly doubt Yellow wants it either.
I guess we have to look forward to a Golovkin-Saunders fight, which should be really good. And I hear Lee wants one or the other too.
At this point, I almost don’t want a GGG-Yellow bout. Let Golovkin clean out the division and retire so that Yellow will forever be known as a coward and a paper champ.Comment

GGG seems to hold the belts in higher regard then most fighters. I'd like to see that fight.Comment
