Pretty powerful body shots by Andre to end the fight look legal. The clip also shows the right to the head that rocked Sergio.

He got away with a few but boxing is a rough sport. I have to give Ward credit for this performance against a very tough opponent.
I agree. I think some of the shots in that last sequence were right above the cup. Close but not low. They were acting like they were blatantly low like Golata. Ward definitely hit him hard with the right and he hit with a really hard left too. I do agree that it was stopped too early though even though I think Kovalev was going to go down possibly.

Jon Jones has the same number of million buy PPVs as Canelo and he didnt need Floyd Mayweather to get it.
I wont even mention Rousey since she's retired.

If your point is that the UFC needs Mayweather to sell over 2 million fights....no **** but so does EVERY boxer in the world.

I'm a huge MMA fan but I'm also a huge boxing fan. I've spent more money going to boxing events than I have UFC fights this year. I just dont get why certain boxing fans consider it a competition.

As an MMA fan, I'm loving that boxing is putting on awesome fights this year and I hope that they all sell because that means more awesome fights. Boxing fans should feel the same way. In my opinion, interest in combat sports whether its Boxing, MMA or Kickboxing helps all combat sports,
i watch both too but the recent ppv's for UFC haven't been as good without rousey or conor headlining. i feel boxing is gaining in popularity as well but didn't need this fight to help. if anything, floyd fighting a rematch with a healthy manny would have been more intriguing than floyd-conor.

i think kovalev (as well as myself) was surprised ward chose to slug it out with him, especially with ward going down in the first fight. ward outboxed and outpowered him this fight, plain and simple. an amazing performance from a guy with 15 KO's. it reminded me of leonard-hearns I, where a powerful leonard shocked everyone. i don't even know if kovalev would have any answers in a third fight.

He definitely fought a smarter fight. And he was really smart to continue to got to the body. More boxer should do that instead of head hunting. I just read the spar session of Pacman vs Horn is going to be on espn. Very smart move. The whole event will air July 1.

He should but his promoter is filing a useless protest. But I guess she says what do we have to lose?

Yeah, more of a statement in support of her fighter, but Meek's handling of the low blows wasn't good.

Definitely wasn't good. I think the stoppage was way too early but do think ward was going to take full control of the fight. Kovalev was hurt and was fading. But in a fight like that. You let him go out on his shield.

I don't know but there wasn't much of an immediate protest by Kovalez.

That is true. Kolvelez knew he was hurt.

Not saying it was the reason he won, but Ward has always been on the dirty side as a fighter. Regardless, he had a phenomenal game plan and the fight wouldn't have gone 12 with the way Kovalev was gassed.

He wouldve stopped him later or won the rest of the rounds. With that said, I had Kovalev up a round before the last round.

One thing on the low blows that RJJ mentioned after the fight, both fighters but he pointed out Kovalev wore his cup above the belly button. He mentioned that being a reason that some of the "low" shots from Ward wern't called low by Weeks. Not sure if that is true but it offered a reasonable explanation in my mind. It was a bad stoppage in a championship fight at least give the man a standing count and warn him to show you something....

Not sure what Kathy Duva is really hoping for with the appeal. Even if the NSAC throws out the fight the market for a 3rd has all but dried up, given how Kovalev looked at the end of rounds 7 and 8. Ward has nothing left to prove against him and there wouldn't be much money. Kovalev needs to get to Stephenson before Ward can if he wants another shot at him.

This is what Ward said about a possible third fight with Kovalez:

"It may make sense if say, for example, he fought Stevenson, won a belt, two or three fights down the road.”
