Oscar won super featherweight and lightweight titles and fought Hopkins for the middleweight championship.

But more importantly Cotto is the MIDDLEWEIGHT champ and he's avoiding the best middleweight and insisting on catchweights for all his 160 fights.

So what bigger guys did Cotto beat at 160? An injury riddled Sergio Martinez who started out at welter and is a natural 154 pounder and a famished, no punch Geale who had to kill himself to get to 157.

Any boxing aficionado knows that several top guys fight or have fought at catch weights in their careers so for me it's a non-issue as a lot of guys do it. Again, Cotto is a natural lightweight that moved up in weight to fight naturally bigger guys. Same goes for Pac and May who actually started at lighter weight classes. What's so hard to understand?

Oh, I didn't know that boxers moved up to different weight classes, even though I just pointed out that Oscar and Duran did. Pac and Floyd too? Wow, teach me more!!!!

Sorry for the original tone Review. I'm not mad at you, I just don't like Cotto's Diva attitude. I don't think he's a bad guy, and he should catchweight away if he can get away with it. He just shouldn't be able to defend his 160 title, if he's making his opponents fight at less than 160.

It's an issue when the champion of a weight division is demanding that fights for his title are fought at a lesser weight than the division he holds the title in.

Agree about the point you made about the 160 pounds title defence but have come to come to accept it as most ppl are more interested match ups these days as opposed to what belts are on the line. When I'm in Vegas or at the gym no ones talks about what belts are on the line or what championship is at stake. It's basically "Mayweather is fighting so and so tonight"

Yeah, and as I mentioned in a previous post there isn't a lot of respect for the institutions (WBC, WBA, etc., etc.) that sanction these title fights.

i know it will NEVER happen, but i can dream can't i? i love to imagine what boxing would be like with ONE champion in each weight division. just image all the great matchups we'd see with top names/contenders having to fight each other to determine to see who gets a shot at THEE champion of the world! it would take alot of politics/demands out of the game, which is one reason it will never happen. oh well..... *sigh*

I would like them to have two majors, like in the old days (WBC, WBA) to set up unification bouts. Throw out the "super" and other "modifer" titles.

Ya. Personally I don't see a reason to have more than one org. as most combat sports have gov't sanctioning org's with set rules. I know why they do it. They want to have their own champs and promote championship fights which means more money. I wasn't alive at the time but from what my dad has told me RING magazine is a big reason why there are so many world titles. Something about a scandal back in the 1970's.

Had to look it up. The scandal got by me, but it was real. I'm surprised Ring Magazine let Don King corrupt them.

Premiere Boxing Champions is on Spike Friday night. Somehow Delvin Rodriguez earns a WBA title shot against Lara, and Alexander Johnson appears to be getting served up to powerful Artur Beterbiev. After only 8 fights Beterbiez is already ranked 4-4-2 by the WBA, WBC, and IBF respectively.

I would like to clarify that I'm talking about things like the WBA Super Title or the WBC Silver Title. I'm not referring to "split" divisions like "super welterweight" (or junior middleweight) or super lightweight (or junior welterweight), etc.

Don King must of made a deal with devil, to escape further incarceration over his criminal career.

LOL, Arreola actually USED TO look up to that guy?

One of his victims, Tim Witherspoon, said, "King would rather make a dishonest quarter than an honest dollar''.
