I actually still have not seen the lara fight, i know it's debated on about who won, but it still was extremely competitive either way, and lara is definitely much better than anyone GGG fought, mosley i don't give canelo much props for, waaay past his prime. But i would say trout is ranked much higher than geale and is definitely better than murray and macklin. At the time. And guys like angulo and kirkland are no joke either, the only power puncher i can think of GGG fighting is curtis stevenson.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
At some point, GGG is going to have to do something other than pound on tomato cans for people to remain interested. I know it isn't necessarily all his/his management's fault, but as a fan, he's starting to be a big yawn for me - I can't tell if he's an HBO creation or the real deal. I tend to think the latter, but again, I'd like to see him prove it.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I'd like his style more if the fight happens. GGG is not going to get in the way of it.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I don't know what's in the guys head, but a Canelo-Cotto fight makes more sense. Cotto is the #3 PPV guy plus you'd have another installment of the famed Mexico–Puerto Rico boxing rivalry. Only my own estimation but each fighter should both pull in over $10 million each.
Also, both guys are basically still JR Middleweights right now - although you could debate Canelo still being a true 154lb fighter considering he blows up to nearly 172 by fight time - which is about the same as GGG.
In a perfect world, I'd love to see Cotto-Canelo then Andy Lee-GGG with the winners of each going at it.
I know Lee would have almost no chance against GGG, but I think he's earned it. He has ducked absolutely no-one and has shown amazing heart coming back to win some recent tough fights.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I know that GGG has fought some less than stellar fighters up to this point BUT tbh, who cares. His next 2 fights could be (in no order) Canelo & Cotto with maybe Andre Ward somewhere down the line. That's more than OK for me.
That was probably the worst I've seen GGG look in his last 5 fights or so but I wonder how much of it was down to the fact that Monroe had ZERO power. I think he let Monroe hit him to get encourage his attack before catching him. A potential risky strategy vs anyone with power but not this fight. Props to Monroe though, he fought pretty well for a round or 2 after the initial knockdowns.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
The guys an Olympic silver medalist with a slew of amateur experience, has mauled two guys that gave Sergio Martinez all he could handle, destroyed a respectable champion in Geale, and just registered his 20th consecutive knockout.
I've used this quote before from proud warrior, and SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT king Carl Frosh when he talks about GGG:
“Just swerve Golovkin like the plague. He punches like a mule. I don’t need to be in with him. Dangerous fight.”
That quote speaks for itself.Comment

Right, I acknowledged all of that in an earlier post. I was responding to the notion that it doesn't matter whether he fights any marquis names or not. To me it does, irrespective of why it isn't happening.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
You need to rephrase that: "Until someone you've heard of has the guts to fight GGG". Cotto and Canelo are avoiding him like the plague, except for Alvarez's brave Twitter posts.

Also, that quote everyone uses from Froch is often taken out of context. I saw the interview when he said that, and he was obviously being sarcastic, he always jokes like that.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Two guys that gave martinez all he could handle? Martinez stopped macklin in the 11th, and he fought murray coming off a knee surgery where he clearly wasn't the same, right after the chavez fight when we saw his knee go out in the last round. I give GGG some props for Geale, probably the most solid opponent he fought.

As far as whether Froch was joking, the quote was analysed at length by Kellerman and Lampley who didn't think he was joking.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
^Fair enough, the macklin fight was competitive, but he still stopped him.
And i know they(max and jim) didn't think he was joking, but considering it's coming from max and jim, who are both on the GGG bandwagon(especially Jim, with his gatti list nonsense) i'd take it with a grain of salt. He's one of the biggest fighters they have on their network, they're gonna be all for him.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I hate Lampley. Kellerman is pretty good, but I honestly prefer the Showtime crew at this point for boxing. They really don't even have Lederman on in any significant capacity anymore, and he was at least good for some inadvertent laughs.
I know I've made this point before, but I think HBO's boxing coverage has fallen way behind Showtime's. For one, Showtime just seems to show way more cards, and when they do, they broadcast pretty much the complete card from start to finish, where HBO frequently just shows 1 undercard and the main event. Their fighter lineup is also - for now - slightly less interesting. I'm glad both networks are still heavily invested in boxing, but HBO has got to get someone other than Golovkin so they can stop constantly pumping him up.Comment
