I agree with this. I think Agnew did a nice job of holding his own and even getting in some quality shots. Anyway, he looked much better against Kovalev than has anyone else to date. I loved Kovalev calling out Adonis Stevenson in the post-fight interview: "Adonis Stevenson piece of sh*t...oh, excuse my English!". Classic.

Steven's big left hook happens around 6:57.

Hmmm...maybe too early, but that second strong left hook that knocks Johnson into the ropes, makes me wonder.
That fight was stopped prematurely in my opinion, and Curtis Stevens is very fortunate to have escaped with a win there. He was thoroughly outclassed the whole night and needed a miracle last round KO to win, which he "sort of" got....All in all, I'm not impressed with Stevens. I don't know where he goes from here, but he can't dominate mid-division foes and was pretty clearly not in Golovkin's league (although in his defense, who is?). He's clearly got talent, but it's going to be a long road for him to premium fights.

Didn't see the fight, but Darnell Boone got a draw with Kovalez. Give me any excuse to insert Boone in a conversation. A 19-21 fighter who drew with Kovalez, and knocked Stevenson out.

      last time i mention that

Amazing that none of that footage is on YouTube, but both rematches are up

Just goes to show you how there is a great divide between the have's and have-not's in boxing.
I'm sure if Boone were given Grade-A training facilities, trainers and enough money to box full-time, his record would probably be much better.

Boone is game. He was throwing some serious punches while getting brutalized by Stevenson throughout the fight.

LOL, he had lost five straight fights when he knocked out Adonis in their first fight.

depends who you fight and when you fight them too. I know a former canadian champ who is 7-6-5 as a pro. He would destroy most 10-0 and so on guys....

part of it is just you gotta do what you gotta do I guess

Speaking of Canadian champs, I'm kind of bummed with how Adam Trupish's career has gone.
After stopping the nearly unstoppable Darryl Cunningham (only other man to previously do it was Andre Dirrell), his name was being talked about in a possible bout with Canelo and other 154lb champs.
His name popped up as a potential FNF contender if he got past his next opponent Dashon Johnson.

But he got KO'd by Johnson. And then he was stopped by Phil Rose (4-2-1).

Looks like his career was over just as it was getting somewhere.

Hopefully he can pick up the pieces and find a way to get back into contention.

Case in point Boone draws with an 12-0 fighter just after getting KOed by Adonis. Boone is 3-11-2 in his last 16 fights but still has a chance at a continued career. Not a great chance, because not many top ten or even top twenty fighters would risk fighting him. He still would make for a good undercard opponent on a prominent card.

                    Interesting read on Deadspin:

Not sure how reliable the guy is and it's clearly just one guy spouting off memories/opinions, but it's fascinating nonetheless.

What a great read! Thank you for posting!

EDIT: I would love to see portions of this in a boxing game.
Maybe not outright fixing fights, but the necessary steps to guide or steer your fighters through the minefield of boxing, avoiding opponents that could derail them.
Even grooming a semi-talented fighter for that one big shot (McNeely-Tyson) in order to attain big money - which could be used to upgrade your gym, hire better trainers, nutritionists, etc.

I know Phil, he is on my next card on May 3rd (anyone in the GTA can hit me up for tickets if they want to go I usually get comp'd a dozen-20 but get so busy I often forget to let people know) I will be interviewing at some point next week about the win.

Anyway, Initially I was like: Why is Phil Rose fighting Brandon Cook for the Canadian title?!?!?, I saw him draw and get TKO'd and Lose to Fitz Vanderpool, but then the promoter told me how he had just stopped Adam Trupish - then I understood. At first I was worried thinking how do I create excitement for this mis-match, but when you stop someone like Trupish that automatically makes this fight legit.

I think putting Trupish vs Canelo is just vastly out of his league.

Yeah, Adam had over 250 amateur bouts and two olympic appearances.
Compare that to Rose's late start (30 I believe) and it makes this upset even more unbelievable.

I never thought Trupish should have been mentioned in the same category as Canelo. But I do believe prior to his bout with Johnson they were discussing him fighting a top-10 jr middleweight. If he won that, then...

I have a soft spot for Trupish because he's from Windsor and near my town.
I even met him a few times while working-out briefly at the Grove Street gym. (Was quiet, humble and courteous).

I really hope he can rebound and get his career back on track.

In the meantime, I hope Rose does well. The little I've read about him, I've liked.
Wish I lived in the GTA to take this fight in. Should be a good one.

There's simply not enough boxing in my area. There's a handful of amateur cards in the Windsor/Essex County area, but not enough.
