loma should be probably but most likely trying to promote/hype the upcoming rematch putting him at #1....

GGG is excellent but after Jacobs and Canelo I would not put him at #1.

Given that Golden Boy owns Ring Magazine and promotes Canelo I was mildly surprised.

The Ring has crumbled in recent years. I don't trust its objectivity since being purchased by Golden Boy.

I get most of my boxing information and news from other sites, blogs, podcasts and Twitter. My two favorite boxing blogs are Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules. Both excellent.

          Agreed.
But I've heard that the writers of The Ring refused to cowtow to any Golden Boy fighters and will report and rank fighters as they see fit.
I'm sure many would quit if they felt pressured to suck the teet of DLH.

On a separate topic, I'm watching the Winter Olympics and can't help but wonder why boxing isn't an event for both the Winter and Summer games.
I was watching a documentary on Netflix called "Counterpunch" (good doc BTW) and they speak at length about the demise of USA boxing and how very few young fighters have a strong desire to compete at the Olympics.
But most know the reason why - these young men need to make money and they don't want to wait 4 long years.
Maybe by having boxing in both Games, more amateurs would be interested in promoting themselves and raising their stock.

good point....was thinking the same thing. adding boxing and maybe wrestling would bring some more attention to these sports since it seems like the summer olympics has more events than the winter olympics anyways. not only that pro boxing and ufc would benefit since they get athletes from both sports.

Baloney sausage. Boxing is a niche sport. There aren't many full-time paying jobs in boxing journalism like writing for The Ring, so most guys would nibble on DLH's teet if it meant they kept receiving a pay check every two weeks and credentials for fights.

just curious, would a matchup of ward vs. bellew interest anyone? ward wants to move up to heavy but cruiser seems more logical. bellew won the cruiser belt in 2016 but he fights haye at heavy in may but wants to move back down to cruiser after that fight. if he gets past haye (again), could ward be next? just read a couple of recent articles about interest by both parties. the fight could promote itself with the creed movie mythical matchup coming to fruition. i had been wondering if they could ever fight each other since that movie too....

on an interesting side note, the role of vitor drago (drago's son) is to be played by florian munteanu (a boxer) who's close to 260 for creed 2. so it would seem adonis creed is going up to heavy to fight for possibly the world title. it would seem now bellew and ward are both heavy now (or just about), so they would fit in the sequel if either are supposed to appear in it.

With the emphasis on "Dragos" in the Creed sequel I'm not sure both Ward and Bellew will be in it or that it would even matter that much. Since they have been talking about fighting each other for some time I doubt there is anything contractual that would prevent a bout from happening.

I don't see Bellew beating Ward at 200 pounds. I'd be interested but not PPV interested.

I don't see how they could have Creed, Danny Wheeler (Ward), and Conlan (Bellew) all go from 175 to heavyweight. Also, Remember Conlan is forced into retirement after he fights Creed because of a prison sentence.

Creed will have to up to heavyweight to fight Drago's son, but I wonder if it will be for a title and will it be in Russia just like Rocky-Drago?

Michael B. Jordan looks huge in Black Panther, so maybe his move to HW, won't be out of the question.

I kind of liked him fighting at LHW in Creed, though.
Made it different from Rocky and added some credibility as a boxing film.

But I'm still looking forward to Creed 2.

P.S. Would have preferred Clubber Lang's son to Drago's.
Let's get Mr.T back in these films somehow.

No Andre Ward fights interest me. Very talented, but his safety-first style induces sleep.

I don't think anyone would care if Ward stayed retired. Dude couldn't put more than 8,000 into an arena in his hometown of Oakland. 'Nuff said.

I liked the LHW angle in Creed too, but now you would have an even bigger David-Goliath situation if Baby Drago becomes heavyweight champion and young Creed moves up to fight him. It would be interesting to see how they would play/downplay the revenge factor and how Rocky and Drago Sr. interact.

was thinking that too.....conlan is out of the picture due to the prison sentence and was thinking drago destroys wheeler (ward) in a title bout (in russia) setting up creed vs. drago for the title in the states.

it should be interesting especially when adonis sees the fatal bout with drago in vegas....(which he didn't see in creed but figuring they would save that for creed 2), which they will (hopefully). it will add to the drama in addition to adonis reclaiming his father's heavyweight title and bringing the belt back to the united states.
