Surely the easiest and most logical solution as already mentioned is just to reduce the amount of KOs that are possible. Meaning that the majority of ways a fight will end are with the most severe knock-downs , and the attacker following in with strikes on the ground? Would look a million times better

And I doubt many people want this to happen, because we all want to play with UFC fighters, and we don't want to wait for another series of MMA games to start over and develop. But if things start getting bad enough, people would likely support competition.Comment

Re: GPD's official response to Finish the Fight discussion
I guess I am more trying to say if they end up butting in too much, not allowing authentic features because they make the UFC look like.....the UFC, then people are going to start looking and calling for alternate options to a MMA game.

I get the realism argument but its rare that you see 5/6 unanswered punches to a unconscious opponent in the UFC. If it happens people are complaining because the ref shouldve stepped in.
Yet it happened all the time in UFC 2 because there arent ref interactions. That was a bad look for the game and the UFC. It just was.
Now I'm confident (maybe being naive) that the devs have another (better?) solution in mind because there are simplier options. They couldve chosen to just reduce the number of strikes you can land but they chose to remove it which leads me to think that maybe something better is coming.Comment

Re: GPD's official response to Finish the Fight discussion
People have already been calling for a new MMA game. I responded to a few posts about that this week. It just wont be a UFC game and if its not a UFC game, other major game companies arent going to be interested.

But yeah the whole thing has been a roller coaster for me. When they were silent about this feature for a long time, I had a feeling they were saving a reveal of a new system for this. Then GPD comes out and says its not in the game by choice. THEN in this thread he says something along the lines that they are considering changes in context of something they haven't revealed yet. So I really don't know what to think anymore, I just hope it ends well.Comment

Re: GPD's official response to Finish the Fight discussion
And there is a major developer (2K) that has shown at least a willingness in the past to make a sports game without having the major leagues license. And they already have an active fighting game franchise.
MMA isn’t on the same planet as football when it comes to popularity, but I wouldn’t say there isn’t a chance that if EA were to really drop the ball (and unless something horrific happened between the beta and release they haven’t) a competitor might not jump at the chance to make a Bellator and friends game.Teams: Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Reds, Marshall Thundering Herd, Virginia Tech Hokies (2010 alum)Comment

Just to play devils advocate, we have fairly recently had an MMA game from a major developer (EA) that wasn’t affiliated with the UFC.

Its a bad business move unless you want to do a low budget game like Bellator did in 2012 and that game failed too.Comment

Some of you overestimate the demand for an MMA game.

Re: GPD's official response to Finish the Fight discussion
As far as I understand the problem is that the the lack of ref interactions makes it look like once one of the fighters is out the other fighter can beat up on them without any restriction and the ref just doesn't care.
For example here:
youtube.com/watch?v=MhNZAgPqfNc (sorry, I'm apparently not allowed to post links)
at the 5.32 mark you can't really see the referee (only the gloves at the edge of the screen) so it may look like the ref never steps in to protect the knocked down fighter after it's clear they're out cold. So if you could just clearly show the ref saying 'stop' and doing the 'stop' hand motions and then immediately go to the celebration cutscene this would be fine I think.
For example here:
youtube.com/watch?v=OLVxyOg7evc
around the 17.10 mark you can clearly see the referee signalling to stop the fight when one of the fighters is out. This is from UFC 2 so all the animations and voices are already there, maybe the referee should be a bit more prominent in the shot. Also maybe the number of FtF strikes should be reduced to 2-3 or so before the fight is stopped.
It would of course be better at some point to have the full animation of the referee physically holding the winning fighter back but I think this would be an ok quick interim solution.Comment
