He doesnt have to but he retired a champ and typically when champs retire and comeback in combat sports, they get a title shot when they come back.

I think I would have a bigger problem with this if there was a better non-title fight. Do you guys really want to see Silva against GSP after the Brunson fight? You want to see Nick Diaz get dominated again? Nate?

The only one I can think of is Lawler and GSP turned that fight down last year.

Woodley wants to fight GSP but given the weight GSP has put on during his hiatus I knew it was likely he was moving up.

Wonderboy has stated openly that he never wants to fight GSP.

The Silva fight is only good for nostalgia reasons. Who wants to see this fight after that putrid Brunson fight. This was a great fight in 2012 but is meh in 2017.

I wasnt interested in a Nick rematch or Nate at 170 either.

So that really only leaves Bisping if GSP wants a belt.

They should have just gave him a tune up fight and then let him face the winner of Yoel/Bisping or Woodley/Wonderboy. I wouldn't doubt he has a little bit of ring rust going, so he could have used a tune up match.

Bisping will be the first dude to beat GSP and Silva! GSP has been gone a long time, and also wasn't a massive welterweight. let's not forget the Hendricks fight. The have similar reach, but Bisping is 4 inches taller and used to be a LHW.

If GSP wins, (he won't) lord help him. Middleweight top contenders are a pack of savages.

Yep. GSP's been gone so long that it really doesn't matter who he goes against. I'm sure they'll try to hype up this fight and everything, but Bisping vs. Yoel already had that going for it. I understand what Aaron is saying as far as who's available, but this sucks as a fan. I'm glad GSP is back and everything and I hope we see a great version of him that night -- I'm just disappointed.

Would you though? Lets look at GSP's last PPVs

- Hendricks- 630k buys
- Diaz - 950k
- Condit - 700k
- Shields - 800k

What that tells me is that GSP is a draw but he isnt a monster draw like Conor or Ronda and that he needs another name to get near a million.

Keep in mind that the UFC is likely paying GSP much more than they were in 2013 too. So if you are going to do a tune up, you have to do it against someone he has a good chance of beating.

My question is does he do a million buys against any of the following people?

Nate Diaz - Maybe but Nate is expensive as hell too.

Nick Diaz - Probably not. I'm a fan of both but I dont need to see Nick get laid on for 5 rounds.

Maia - Hell no.

The only person I could see is if it was against Silva because of his name recognition. With that said, as a fan I hate that fight.

I hear you, but Bisping isn't exactly a big money guy himself. Not sure if throwing him in there against GSP is going to make a huge difference. There is really nothing going for this fight to make it interesting to the casual fan other than it being GSP's return.

In this sport (like most others) people stop caring about you when you're out of action for a long time. I don't see Bisping/GSP doing huge numbers unless they stack the card with other interesting fights.

No fighter bashing, Dave. Yoel is one of the good guys in MMA. Tainted supplements -- if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit.

Tim Kennedy pulled a gun on someone for pulling up in his driveway. I'm glad to see the UFC cleaned up of loose canons like him.
