    Re: The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights

Roy Nelson is a douchebag first off.

Second off, while he did dominate Kimbo, it wasn't impressive and that's the issue. He should have subbed Kimbo or at least worked for it. I'm sure that no one, including the damn referee, wants to stop a fight because of those BS punches. Fight and try your hardest to finish your opponent. If you get a guy into a dominant position, make your strikes matter and compete. Don't game the damn system so you can get an easy victory without working or doing any damage to your opponent. It's a fight and a spectator sport. No one wants to see that obviously.

As for the Florida stuff, I forget how his fight went against Arlovski.

Why risk being injured against a fighter who has turned people's faces into complete mush? He had him in a position he could not escape, and if he tried to take more powerful shots he would have had to displace his weight, and risked giving Kimbo the chance to slip out and stand back up. It would be pretty stupid to do that. instead he played it smart, kept Kimbo in a position that he couldn't defend himself in and had the fight stopped without being hurt.

      Boring fight? Yes.
      Smart fight? Absolutely.
Legitimate Stoppage? Yes... Herb should have stopped it in the first round.

Nelson is an idiot. Real smart to call one of the top UFC refs an idiot, that will get you in real good with Dana White. 2nd, the whole counting the punches thing was cheesy (not in the video game sense but cheesy meaning gay) and very WWE (when they count punches on the turnbuckle). Roy has become one of my least favorite MMA fighter and it goes beyond just how he fights.

Kimbo was not getting out of the position no matter how hard of punches Roy threw. He could have dropped elbows, thrown harder punches or something. Those look like punches a little girl would throw. He would have gotten boo'd like crazy for that at a UFC event and if the fans dont like your fights or find you boring, that usually isnt good for your career.

He would have had to given up his weight balance to have thrown harder punches, and in doing that would have given Kimbo a chance to pull out.

It was smart not to do that - he wasn't in a position to drop bombs, and instead of risking losing position he just had it stopped with light shots... When that does the job, why risk anything else? Sure people like entertaining fights, but sometimes you just need to go in there and do what you have to do to win, and play it safe.

He played it safe. Good for him.

Boring fight? Yes... Did he completely control Kimbo and make him look like a fool? Yes.

Well, i think he was the one who looked like a fool talking about burgers and rubbing on his fat gut, kimbo wanted to fight roy wanted to lay and pray his way to a victory, me and i'm sure others tend to like guys who want to fight rather then the guys who lay and pray their way to a victory.I win is a win but in the process.

If all fighters in the ufc did that their would be alot of boring, crappy fights.Nelson isn't ufc material if thats his mindset or anyone elses for that matter.

                Re: The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights

I'm already sick of the Kimbo era.

Lay and pray? Seriously? In less than two rounds, Roy landed literally over 50 punches on Kimbo's forehead. Sure, they weren't power shots, but they were at least equal to stiff jabs.

I don't know if some of these people just had no clue about MMA to begin with, or if they're just willingly being foolish to try and defend Kimbo's honor, but either way, I can't help but think the Kimbo/Nelson fight set the sport back five years in terms of fans' understanding of the sport.

Let's keep something in mind. This wasn't a UFC fight, it was a TUF exhibition match. Roy is going to have to fight again in far less time than most fighters have to. He has a short and unknown recovery time.

Excitement is great - but being smart in a show where you have an unknown recovery time, with a contract worth 6 figures at steak is even... well... smarter.

Why would you risk that just to be exciting? Doesn't make sense to me.

Kimbo offered absolutely nothing in that position. He hit Nelson pretty hard standing up, and to risk having Kimbo get up again would be stupid. Keep him in a position where can't move and just let the ref stop it. It was boring - and I don't like the guy, but it was a smart, smart fight.

Maybe when someone actually offers him a fight, he'll do something exciting because he'll be made to actually have to do something else.

Since when is working for and achieving mount and a criucifix lay and pray. Lay and pray is the act of sitting in an opponents guard, throwing small shots and pretending to go for a sub inorder to not get stood up. But l&p is not advancing position. That's actually being acive on the ground. Allso noone finishes a fight a fight by lay and pray. Last time I checked, he finished kimbo

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you don't have to like it just because you've been watching mma on tv for a few more years doesn't make you any more of an expert.Roy nelson won the fight and a win is a win but he was a coward for doing that counting bs and while kimbo sucks he shows up to fight. He won the fight but in the most unimpressive way you can think of hell any dana white thought he didn't do crap.

Listen to you, man. You're calling Roy a coward, insinuating that he didn't show up to fight, making ridiculous claims about him pulling some lay and pray. MMA could do with fewer fans like you, and I mean that with as little offense as possible. You're a keyboard warrior, probably a teenager, who just sits back and disparages the character of fighters that have the gall to beat your favorite fighter. It's insane. I don't even want to deal with you. Take care, man.

Twice. Roy landed 44 unaswered shots at the end of the first round. That would have been the end of the fight if it was anyone other than the UFC's cash cow on the receiving end.
