Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
Um, we wouldn't be talking about any of this if Silva took care of business instead of being unprofessional and not trying to finish. That's what finishing a fight does. Silva's been here before, it's his MO now, he knew that he was f'ing over the fans and the UFC (right in front of their new business partners) and he didn't give a damn.
Wait my bad, he said Damian. Accent got me.Last edited by Phillmattic; 04-11-2010, 03:47 PM..::..::::::::.:.:.:.:....:::.:.::::..:.:::....:::: ...:..::."When you're an assassin, you don't have a conscience"-Gilbert ArenasComment

I can see how you could give the fight to BJ, but that was more on him. The last 3 rounds I was telling people near me that neither fighter should want this fight going to the judges. Such a tough fight to score, you're risking a lot letting those yahoos determine your fate.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Apparently Silva feels no one respects him. Sounds like he has some unresolved self esteem issues... which would explain the way he acted yesterday.Comment

Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
He did put on a show. He came out for two rounds and danced and entertained the crowd all while lighting Maia up like a Christmas tree. People enjoyed the first two rounds.
If Silva did decide to go 100% do you think the fight would have lasted more than 2 rounds? More than 1? More than the first 2 minutes?
Really, everybody got the fight they were expecting. Quick and total dominance. What more would knocking out a clearly already defeated opponent accomplish?
Very unprofessional of Silva to treat the fight like the joke that it was, but really it was the same outcome everyone was expecting.Comment

Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
Cmon EX, you arent that thick. I said it clearly he is nothing but a counter puncher because he chooses to be one. He has chosen to be one since the Henderson fight. All the fights I named in that post were BEFORE the Henderson fight.
Why does Silva have to fight a certain type of fighter to finish a fight? Why is Silva the only fighter that gets that excuse? GSP has fought wrestlers (Hughes and Fitch), BJJ guys (Serra), Strikers (Alves and Hardy) and he's stopped or dominated all of them. No one has to handpick opponents for GSP. He doesnt not try to finish a fight just because he doesnt feel challenged or a guy isnt coming forward. Its a bull**** excuse.
Maia wasnt running from Silva...he just wasnt initiating strikes. Why? Because he isnt a striker and he knows all Silva is waiting for is a counter. Why would he run in there and do that if he wants to win. Silva had two options to win this fight. 1) Use his vastly superior striking, timing and speed to destroy Maia on his feet or 2) Use those skills to glide to a boring decision. He chose #2 and he did the same thing against Leites and Cote.
It's no excuse. Why are we forgetting about previous fights outside of UFC where Silva didn't need to counter punch to finish? He won the fight, and not only that, he dominated. Who says there's only one way to win?
I never said Maia ran away from anyone. He just couldn't do anything. No takedowns, no stirkes, nothing. He was outclassed. What Silva did was not against the rules.
I hope Silva shuts Sonnen's *** up and then who knows what's up with Vitor. Both of those fights have no excuse to be like last night's. After Sonnen is talking all this ****, he had better do something like attempt takedowns.. Vitor will stand and exchange with Silva.
Maia got f'd up, enough said.Comment

Actually it wasnt that long ago that Fitch did actually fight on the prelims and people were wondering why it was. I believe it was his first fight after the whole debacle with the UFC getting his rights for the video game or something like that, so its not as if Fitch has always been on the main card.Comment

What's so bad about choosing to be a counter puncher? Until someone beats him why should he change?

That is exactly what UFC fans love to watch.
No one said there is only one way to win. Thats obvious. Silva showed that yesterday. There is an entertaining and crowd pleasing way which is to dominate AND FINISH your opponent. Or there is another way which is to show up your opponent, refuse to take risks and win a boring decision. Silva chose option 2.Comment

Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
What did Maia do for 4 and a half minutes? He stood there in his character select animation. Anderson wasn't running, he was just recircling to keep Maia in the middle. When the ref warned him, he had no problem just staying right in front of Maia, jabbing and weaving. Maia had plenty of opportunities to swing for the fences in that last two minutes, and he did not.Comment

Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
With all of what you just said, Silva dominated the fight.
Some people don't like GSP's style, don't like Silva's but they still dominate. And no, I'm not saying GSP fights the same style Silva does. It's just everyone has their own gameplans. Silva implemented a gameplan, and dominated. He acted like a fool but he still dominated.
Everyone can't be pleased I guess.
Brock and Chuck? Please. They're not half the fighters Silva is, but who cares they finish fights! Yippee.Comment

Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
Being a counter puncher isnt bad when you either dont have the ability to initiate strikes or if your opponent is a better striker. But I guess its ok for Silva to play it safe. Because safe fighters are the fighters people want to see. People love watching Brock because he plays it safe. People have spent millions of dollars to watch Chuck fight because he plays it safe. I know when I watch my Top 100 UFC fights of all time there are a ton of safe fights with fighters doing nothing but feinting, circling and waiting for someone to throw a punch.
That is exactly what UFC fans love to watch.
