    Nail in the coffin?

And there we go with the stripping belt idea.

It's awesome reading these kinds of comments all over the interwebz.

It takes two to tangle. I blame Maia, Leites, and Cote just as much as Spider. 50/50

"His last 3 title defenses have been wins, but boring as hell. Part of MMA is to entertain the fans and want to keep them watching. That's why the UFC makes so much money compared to some karate or BJJ championship. Yes, winning is tops, but you have to entertain the fans.

Look at the NHL when they had the left wing lock. Games got to be boring as hell due to the legal but not entertaining play. Just because something's ok by the rules doesn't make it right."

Once again, I have no interest in debating that aspect of all of this.

Once again it takes two to tango/tangle.

All I will talk about is Silva's track record and what he did last night.
Actually have been arguing it with all your statements about "overreacting" to the fight. The business side is the main reason people are upset since thy are the ones paying for his fights.

I separate these two aspects. There are an assortment of criticisms being thrown around, not all tie into the business angle.

UFC knows that they can still make a ton of money with Silva, he's the best fighter in the world.

Same thing with GSP, he gets a ton of criticism for being a boring wrestler who doesn't finish his opponents. But yet he still is, and will continue to be one of the UFC's major draws.

The fans are fickle, you put big names in to the correct fights and the money will come pouring in. And all Silva needs is another spectacular finish, which he is also known for, and all is forgotten.

Tell me Silva vs GSP, two guys who have been under heavy criticism for being boring in their past fights, doesn't pull in a ton of money if it ever happens.

Rampage is another name being thrown around to fight Silva, that's definitely a big money fight.

Silva making his way to heavyweight, there would be major interest in that.

Unless the UFC does something incredibly stupid, like have him fight Chael Sonnen next, the only repercussion Silva could face is coming out to his next fight under a chorus of boos. Just like against Forrest, who he then KO'd in movie-like fashion, and everyone loved him again.
The UFC isnt making much money off of Silva. He refuses to learn english and his PPVs dont sell. Even the ones against well known fighters like Henderson didnt do gangbusters. Sure people would pay to watch him fight GSP (GSP's fights always sell) or any other top name but Silva isnt helping business by not finishing fights.

Almost all of them do. All of the fighting criticisms tie into entertaining fights which ties into business because people like to purchase entertaining fights. Actually I cant think of a criticism made by anyone related to the fight that doesnt tie into the business side.

But that's what this is all about. No one here is debating that Silva broke any rules or anything, we're just saying that his attitude and how he fights is bad for the fans and for the sport itself.

It does take two to tango, but that doesn't excuse Silva from avoiding pretty much any sort of attack the final 3 rounds.

It's very interesting how 99% of other MMA fighters don't have a problem finishing an inferior opponent. They don't need to resort to dancing and running around. Must say something about Silva's mental state or something, I don't know.

It's comical how "ZOMG his opponents sucked so bad" is an excuse for his dancing and failure to finish fights. Shouldn't that make it easier to finish if you're that much better than someone?

Portuguese-language MMA forums have been abuzz with discussion over the insults Silva levelled at Maia at points in the fight. The end of the second round is when he is said to have been most offensive, allegedly telling Maia "Bate na minha cara playboy" (“Come on, hit me in the face playboy.")

Odd as it sounds, ‘playboy’ is a serious insult in Brazil when levelled at certain targets. The stark class and economic divides in Brazil make for a wide gulf in status between the rich and poor. In Brazilian terms, a playboy is a hedonist rich kid, the product of a pampered upbringing who cares little for the poor and knows nothing of real life.

Anderson is also said to have cried out "Cade o Jiu-Jitsu?" ("Where is your Jiu-Jitsu?”) as Maia failed to get him to the floor, and also told him “Get up off your *** and get hit some more” when Maia dropped to his back looking to play guard.

Complete utter BS that he was trying to finish the fight. Whole interview trash.

The one thing I hate about this is that Silva said after the first 2 crappy performances that "it will never happen again" and yet it's how he fights now.

I've enjoyed this convo. Everyone has brought up great points. For me, this doesn't affecect how I look at Silva. I will still say he's the best p4p fighter, still makes grown men piss their pants, and one of my favorite fighters. I think we all have short memories. Everyone forgot about Griffin's girly man run after he beat Ortiz. If Silva comes and KO's his next opponent, all will be forgoten and forgiven. It's the day after backlash.

I agree with you. If Silva can return to what he's done before and break this streak of boring middleweight fights I think he'll be loved again. We just want to see it happen. Believe me, I want to see Silva beat down people, he's one scary mofo!

They want to punish Silva ?

Make him fight harder fighters like Belfort, GSP, Rua, Machida, Ortiz, Wanderla. Hell just kick him out of the middleweight division and say if you want to stay in the UFC you got to be a light heavyweight.

Cant even compare them. Quarry was constantly pressing the action the entire fight and Starnes flat out ran from him. Quarry had every right to clown him. Also Quarry didnt clown him for 5 rounds.
