Strangulation is not a violent of a death when compared to other methods of murder. There was a criminal pathologist that was on one of the major news programs earlier this week describing the act. He asserted that the death is actually less painful as the victim passes out before dying.

Any type of murder is a violent death.

Strangulation is on the top of my list of Ways I Don't Want to Die. Have you ever been swimming, and you start to run out of air? That feeling is horrible, and the experience is awful. Drowning along with strangulation are horrible ways to die. Running out of air is one of the worst feelings imaginable.

I would assume the sheer terror of knowing you're about to die at the hands of a crazed maniac (and your husband/father) would be worse than any pain someone could suffer.

I'd rather die from burning to death in an accident than spending my last minutes alive being hunted down by a lunatic.

I don't think being strangled is a very peaceful way to go and if you have asthma then you know that suffocating isn't fun.

For real. I think I'd rather get shot in the head and go instantly than get strangled. Shoot, when people get chocked/drowned in movies I get a little nervous.

It's a shame that in 2007 people still don't understand mental illness. To do something like this, Benoit defenitly wasn't himself.

You don't even know the guy so why are you clinging to this mental illness thing? He hasn't been reported to have any mental illness but what's pretty clear is that he used steroids.

jmood, depression is an illness and it can turn severe to the point where someone could kill themselves and even hurt others around them. You say that he wasn't reported that he had a mental illness, do we know the lives of any of these guys in the back? We find out later on when documentaries are released on some of the LEGENDS the hell that they had to go through. To some of those workers all that grind day in day out travelling and the abuse on their bodies adds to problems.

What if all these years he went untreated? He didn't get help for the depression or even get help for the steroids......which cause other issues, like something called rage.

It would certainly explain their comments. Malenko kept saying he felt bad for the fans...never once said about Benoit's family. Regal's was short and felt like he has so much more to say.

I have to go back and watch that one, I missed Regal's speech.

As a ring warrior, I will miss Benoit. As a regular joe out of the ring, I have lost all respect for him. Its one thing if you have issues with your spouse, but you don't take it out in any form on your children. I have 3 kids myself, and as I sit here typing this I feel more tears for that 7 year old boy than I do for Chris or Nancy Benoit.............they both created this mess and they both ended. It takes 2 to tango in a relationship and it takes 2 to screw things up.

I took my avy down because I just can't place someone in there that murdered an innocent 7 year old child that never had the opportunity to defend himself or even begin his own life yet.

IMO, I really hope that the WWE drops this now and only mention they give is an RIP at the beginning of the show and that's it if Chris did commit the murders. They need to put this behind themselves and like TJ mentioned the wellness program last night, its time Vince McMahon does something to beef that thing up to help his stars out.

Video says local Atlanta TV station got calls for two weeks asking if Chris Benoit was dead.

I dont understand this? This is weird, weird stuff. I wonder if the same dark cloud that Mcmahon had been talking about was following Benoit too? I'm joking but why were people calling for 2 weeks asking if Benoit was dead? Another thing when Eddie died was it getting this much attention, if so I dont remember it going like this but I guess there was no murder mystery and that seems to be why CNN keeps following this not because he was a wrestler.

Every time I read that Chris was found in the weight room, I have this morbid picture in my head of him putting on about 400 or 500 lbs of weight on a barbell; bench pressing it; and dropping it down on his chest or neck.

It didn't receive this much attention because Eddie didn't murder anyone. WWE used his death for Mysterio and Orton's benefit in the spotlight.

see... here's the problem. speculation that the man had mental problems or long-term illness is fine, but you've been nothing but insultingly condescending about it. if you gave the facts you have in a calmer manner, people might be more willing to listen to you.

personally, i think if the stated timeframe of the killings is correct, it seriously clouds the entire situation.

I don't have a book full of facts that I can refer to, so I spoke of personal experience. If I came off as condescending, so be it.

I guess this thread is a testament to quality of people on this board. How many of you have actually experienced clinical depression? C'mon. Raise your hands. Diagnosed clinical, not just because you were feeling down for a couple of days. I would definitely agree with insinuation that some people are extremely ignorant. It's a very serious affliction, and is not easily detectable or treatable. If Chris Benoit was suffering from severe depression, he, himself, may not have even known how severe it was. Yes, I do have sympathy for him and his family.

James, I'm with you on this bro and I think that some people just don't understand how much depression can eat someone up to do things that they shouldn't be. Depression is like a drug imo, the longer you have it and the more that it doesn't get treated the worse that it gets. I've seen people with long term depression where they are quiet and don't say a word to people that because they are depressed they take **** out on others with no regard to whom is around.

No, I do agree with your assessment. Especially for a seven year old boy being smothering by his father. The phsychological pain would be tremendous. I am referring to the physical pain as the victim passes out quite quickly during strangulation.

Superstar wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, according to a law enforcement source quoted by the Associated Press.

The couple and their 7-year-old son were found dead Monday in their home on Green Meadow Lane just east of Peachtree City.Nancy Benoit and her son, Daniel, were killed during the weekend and Benoit died Monday, police said.

Benoit and his wife went through a period of turbulence early in their marriage that included her claiming domestic abuse and filing for divorce, court records show.

The couple, who had lived together since 1997 and were married in 2000, had separated when Nancy Benoit, a wrestling manager who worked under the stage name "Woman," filed for divorce in May 2003.

In the accompanying petition for protection from domestic abuse, Nancy Benoit, 43, claimed she was intimidated by threats of violence from her 40-year-old, 5-foot-10, 220-pound husband, who was known as the "Canadian Crippler."

Benoit, the petition said, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture and furnishings. Petitioner is in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."

In another count, she claimed Benoit had destroyed furniture in the home.

On May 12, 2003, the same day the divorce and protective order petitions were submitted, a judge issued a restraining order against the wrestler and barred him from the family home in Peachtree City.

On Aug. 19, 2003, Nancy Benoit filed to have the divorce and protective petitions dismissed, and both were.

Looks like he wasn't such a nice guy after all.
