    Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

I'm watching the first Royal Rumble. It's so weird and different compared to the rumble we all know.

Only 20 guys, 2 mins between entrants, elimination simply by going over the top, no music playing during entrances, no announcements on anything.

And the superstars in the match too, I never watched 80s wrestling, so these names I've never heard of.

Sam Houston, Boris Zhukov, B Brian Blair, Jumping Jim Brunzel, Ron Bass....

I never knew "The Rock" was used by Don Muraco.

I mentioned this a little while back that it wasn't until the 89 Rumble that they started making a point of both feet needing to touch the ground to be eliminated. We're just so accustomed to it being that way that it is jarring when you watch the first Rumble and the rules are slightly different.

Broken Skull Sessions with Bayley wasn't bad. Not as good as Austin sitting around with dudes from his era and reliving stories, but he's really good at asking questions that put his guest in a position to answer and then spin off into other stories.

It felt weird seeing him interview a current talent since most of his other episodes have been reminiscing with a past talent, usually someone he knows. Even Drew, he at least had a 10+ year long career.

Funny seeing Austin do the "ding dong" bit.

I wonder why Austin/Bayley were so confused at Bayley getting dumped on by the Toronto crowd. Bayley when she was first on the main roster wasn't as good as she was in NXT, and let's not forget the horrible This Is Your Life segment which happened 2 months prior, so fans weren't exactly loving this Bayley, or the current Bayley/Alexa feud.

And obviously Toronto being "one of those crowds" like a NY, Chicago and so on where fans cheer and boo who they want for whatever reason they want, so not sure why they'd call a crowd like that a "bad crowd". Maybe that's the WWE mindset? If fans dont react the way WWE wants, they consider it a bad crowd, not a bad character or bad booking?

Rewatching the 92 Rumble. I never knew this literally happened a week after HBK turned on Janetty. They didnt even seem to hype it up as such a major deal at the time compared to how we view it now. Seemed so weird seeing early 90s HBK vs Flair. Shawn hit a superkick on Flair in the match too. Their only meeting in the ring until 2003 I believe.

But how stacked was this match. Bulldog,Slaughter,Hacksaw,IRS,Sid,Snuka,Bossman,Di Biase,Piper,Jake,Savage,Hogan,Michaels,Undertaker, Hogan,Flair and more. And let's not forget the repo man who randomly had a backstage hype video mixed in with all the top names. Half this field is filled with hall of famers!

And Hogans backstage rumble video...part of reason I figured out wrestling was fake, although the part I thought was fake wasn't actually fake. All the baby oil he has on, his arms legitimately look like a rubber suit. When I was little and saw other guys with similar bodies like that in the oil, I thought wrestling was fake because these guys are all wearing body suits which is why they're so shiny and muscular lol.

And his promo ended on a rather weird note. "Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania and his little hulksters get ready to rumble!"

                  It’s the best Rumble period.

It's still crazy how it is the best rumble ever and you can dissect various moments in it and makes this match even better than we already know it is.

Like the first ever HBK/Flair interaction. One of the first offensive moves HBK hit on Flair was a superkick. Obviously sweet chin music being the last move he'd ever hit on Flair too.

Piper has Flair in a sleeper. Jake the Snake enters the rumble and just slides over to a corner and sits and watches and let's Piper continue, as fans start applauding that.

Lol, "MACHO MAN IS IN THE RUMBLE! HE'S GOING AFTER JAKE! HE ELIMINATED JAKE THE SNAKE! AND NOW........Macho Man just leaped over the top? He just eliminated himself! (But not actually based on the rules back then)"

Sid literally almost kills Slaughter! He whipped Slaughter from one corner into the opposite turnbuckle and out of the ring in 2 seconds!

I was at that Rumble [emoji41]

I remember being soooo pissed when Hogan got eliminated. Not just cause I wanted him to win but I wanted to hear the song so bad.

To this day I think that Jake should've won the title. Perfect setup for Macho Man vs Jake Roberts at WM.

                        Flair vs Hogan

                        Taker vs Sid
                        NFL- Green Bay Packers
                        NCAA- Florida State Seminoles
                        NHL- Carolina Hurricanes

Watching old school rumbles when you dont know what number an entrant is, or having no music play feels weird.

But the split screen camera is way better. You don't miss anything in the ring, or have 50 different crowd reaction shots instead of capturing what's going and missing a big moment.

Of all the entrances in 92, I think besides Hogan and Flair, Undertaker had the biggest one. Everyone was getting out of their seat to see him enter.

Maybe in 1990. Jake by this time was a mess.

Skip ahead 10 years, now at Rumble 02.

92 was great, but 02 was so stacked too.

                              HHH,Austin,Angle,Undertaker,Kane,Booker T,Mr.Perfect,RVD,Goldust,Hardys,Christian,Big Show,APA,DDP,Godfather and more!

I never knew HBK was around in early 02 on TV. He wasn't in the arena, he was at WWF NY, but it looks weird seeing HBK part of anything WWF related between that life change for him between 00-02.

To this day, is Mavens elimination of Undertaker still the biggest shock elimination in Rumble history? If Ricochet eliminated Lesnar last year instead of just setting him up for McIntyre, that could've been a contender too. Although the pop for Lesnars elimination was huge.
