    The Official "What If" Thread

A while back me and some other guys were talking about "what ifs". Someone suggested this type of thread and I really think it could turn into something pretty cool.

I want to slap a couple of rules on it just to make it work out the best way I see fit.

Instead of posting a bunch of what if questions, you should at least post a thought about the current what if being discussed.

If it doesn't work best that way, we'll change up the format.

Anyway, one I had thought up, and we had discussed a little over in the trivia topic is this:

Hulk Hogan was originally booked to partake in a tag team match at the first ever Starrcade. What if Hogan had signed with the NWA instead of going to the almighty WWF?

That's a very good question, there are several answers to that thought

Had he signed I think WCW would have broken away from NWA, WWE may not be the wrestling juggernaut they have become today, I do think WWE would have signed him around the same time when WCW signed him

What if Hall and Nash had not jumped to WCW and sparked the Monday night wars

I like that. Because you can seriously say if that didn't happen WCW wouldn't have done the nWo, which was their biggest angle ever, and the angle that really got them going. Possibly we would have seen WWF flounder like they did in the "New Generation" days, and same could be said for WCW. Possibly, they'd both still be around.

What if Bret Hart never got screwed and never went to WCW?

I would like to think we would have seen many great matches between he and Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWF Championship. I loved their rivalry. Considering Bret pretty much "died" in WCW, I don't believe WCW would have been affected much if he never signed there.

What if Owen Hart had never passed away at Over the Edge 1999? How do you think the rest of his career would have gone?

As painful as it makes me say it, most likely nowhere... Russo was in love with booking him as the Blue Blazer at the time, and that character was never going to be championship material. It's a shame, Owen deserved one title run with the WWF title.

What if Shawn Michaels never injured his back against The Undertaker and had to leave after Wrestlemania 14?

I think Owen could have really ran with the enough is enough gimmick and possibly got to the World Title due to it being the Attitude Era. Him and Austin had so much to feud over. Steve's neck and Steve's old rivalry with Bret.

The Shawn Michaels thing is simple. Man we would have had more years of the best wrestler ever doing what he does best, entertaining us in the squared circle.

Michaels hurting his back was a blessing in disguise. It eventually made him kick his drug and alcohol problem and come back twice the wrestler that he was when he left.

What would be the current state of the business if Chris Benoit didn't kill his family and instead ended up just committing suicide? Would we still have unprotected chair shots to the head and still do other moves that involve the head being the brunt of the impact *notably the german suplex or pile driver.*

I'm gonna say WWE would still try to eliminate the head targeted moves, just not as quickly as they did. With all the research on concussions and head injuries currently being done, and other professional contact sports trying to reduce those major blows to the head, it wouldn't be long before the WWE would need to follow suit. They may not completely disappear like they have, but they'd be heavily reduced.

Eddie Guerrero is always my biggest What If. Obviously due to this age at the time he may not have been the next huge thing still, but man I would have loved to see at least a few more years of some good feuds. Him and HBK at a wrestlemania would have been amazing.

Well, he was supposedly going to get the World Title like the next week after his death. Eddie/HBK would have been an outstanding match and Eddie was still pulling some good stuff before his untimely death.

As my What If would probably be Mr. Kennedy never got injured and ruined the illegitimate son angle that Vince had. It's been posted what would have happened, but I wonder what would have been Kennedy's career after that storyline and how big he would've been. Sadly, he got injured all the time.

I think they would've backtracked on that eventually. Not sure how much mileage they could really get out of the illegitimate son thing before it got boring.

Along the same lines, What If they didn't shift Kennedy's Money in the Bank over to Edge when they thought he'd be out longer with whatever injury it was at that time?

Maybe for a few years longer on the chair shots. They wouldn't have escaped the past 4-5 years, though.

The other moves are pretty much zero impact on the head - it's just the propensity of botching that leads to them being "banned." Which is stupid, but it is what it is.
