Re: The Official "What If" Thread

WCW would never have beaten WWE. They had one good thing. The nWo.

They dragged that name through the mud and all but killed it, keeping it on life support for a long period of time while they were legally brain-dead. Outside of the nWo, they had zilch. They refused to take the cruisers seriously, and they couldn't make a star to save their life.

I know it's the 'what if' game... but even if WWE didn't have the Attitude era and didn't buy out WCW after it, WCW was gonna be circling the drain regardless. Best case is WWE doesn't have the boom and holds steady, while WCW winds up where TNA is today.

That's why I wonder why people think Bischoff is this great wrestling mind. He made the nWo in WCW and it was great. But he never took it away.

Then he went to TNA and his only idea was.... The biker nWo!

That's why I said two crappy companies. WWF definitely started being more entertaining, but WCW started sucking all on their own, also..

Unrelated, but man, do I remember the origin of NWO like it was yesterday. (Hall and Nash, The Outsiders)

At that time I never imagined it would grow like it did. All I know is, every Monday night during that span I had a tough time deciding which to record with my VCR: Raw or Nitro. (If only DVR's were around then, lol)

What if King and JR were still calling matches? Would we be saying "time to retire" to either of them?

I know the name Goldberg gets dragged through the mud alot, but I'd call the booking of his streak/his title win over Hogan making a star. But of course they squandered it subsequently, but you can't deny that Goldberg was a)over and b)right there with Austin at one point in terms of star power. That was the dream match of my youth, and I know I'm not the only one that feels that way.

In any case, saying nWo was the only good thing WCW had is selling guys like Steiner, DDP, Flair, Luger, etc a bit short.

I'd say the combo of PG and general disinterest has watered down King quite a bit, and Ross was getting up there. It still would have been better than what we have now, but not what we had in the AE on the mic.

My what if would be what if Rock never left for Hollywood...would guys like Cena, Batista, Edge ever became top guys? Would we be sick of him at the top the same way most are sick of Cena?

I think so. He rarely did anything to get himself hurt and miss time. I feel he vs Cena would be as tired as Flair vs Sting.

It's not selling those guys short at all even though I see why it would look that way. Those guys weren't wrestling every night. I changed the channel a lot when I was getting the 50 man nWo cutting a fifteen minute promo. Or a Glacier vs La Parka match. It meant nothing. WCW was just horribly ran outside outside of the nWo and cruiserweights even though the latter would get fed to the former. Raven/DDP, Benoit/Booker were the few and far good things they did besides the nWo and CWs.

What if Wade Barrett beat Orton at Survivor Series 2010 (I feel this was one of the biggest booking mistakes WWE has made)?

Then John Cena never would have been fired!

Really though, they would've had him drop it back pretty quickly. They're barely into him now, and they certainly wouldn't have left the title on him for any substantial amount of time four years ago.

What if Sandow actually cashed in his MITB successfully? Would he have been champ for long?

I don't think he would to be honest, maybe a month or two like Swagger, but he would have made it entertaining like everything else he does.

What if William Regal had won the World Title as he was apparently supposed to before he had his issues in about 2006-7?

Best case scenario is that the more casual fans give him the respect/recognition he so rightfully deserves.

That's about it for Regal I would guess, sadly.
