I dunno, Punk claims he was talking to WWE before AEW called and he never went back to WWE because the money offer was too low.

Also apparently Buddy Murphy is going to AEW and whatever happened to this talent budget that Tony Khan apparently says he has?

That makes Dub's joke even less funny if WWE in fact offered a lesser deal.

And I kind of find it hard to believe that they were seriously interested. When the best time to bring him in (SummerSlam in August) came and went, with no rumblings that they were in talks, yet we heard about AEW's interest around the same time.

He's using it as an excuse to low ball the guy while being a "good guy" that refuses to cut talent/deadweight and continues to endlessly bring people in. [emoji2365]

And I get to a degree letting Cody go cause the last year of his run has been blah, but that is on all parties involved being unwilling to take him in a new direction.

Rhodes & the Bucks should've all been smarter, demanded a stake in the company, not just been happy with worthless "EVP" titles and "creative control."

Not much good that **** does you when you get ousted from something you helped create/spark.

Maybe we'll read the first report from Meltzer ever saying "locker room morale is low in AEW" and everyone is "afraid they'll be next to get expired?"

Cody: I just want what the top guys are getting and to stay with something I created.

            Tony Khan: Sorry, YOU'RE EXPIRED!

You have to live in some kind of fantasy world to actually believe WWE did not want Punk. That would have been HUGE for them. I get that people are eager to dunk on AEW at every opportunity out if some kind of bizarre resentment they have for the popularity/goodwill AEW enjoys, but come on.

Nobody said WWE didn't want Punk.

I think they probably did want him. But I also think they didn’t want him enough to give him what we he wanted.

                    Thankfully.

You can believe that they did or didn't contact him with a serious offer. There is enough evidence to suggest either way.

Again, if they wanted him so badly and were really, really interested why didn't they sign him right after his stint on FS1?

They likely made an offer but likely a half-hearted one.

It is less about their supposed "popularity"/goodwill and more so the issue of all the virtue signaling they do, clear bias within the wrestling media and the fact that they've done nothing but occupy Impact/TNA's former spot.

And, again, I want them to reach a higher level (even with me constantly mocking Khan) but nothing they've done suggests they have the ability to do that.

They probably wanted him but not a the price he was willing to sign for. We are talking about the same company that let go Bray Wyatt who was selling merch

Hence me saying that AEW was bidding against themselves. Just like we make fun of any other organization in sports that is/was likely bidding against themselves when they sign someone to a "ludicrous" contract.

Supposedly another reason he left was the fact that over time he was pushed out of the booking process. He wanted to be a part of it the way his father was. I hope for his sake that he will have some kind of role in creative in WWE, because if he is just a performer he won't even have the input level he had in AEW.

                              Re: AEW Off-Topic

My two cents on the current state of AEW.

It has gotten me back to watching wresting weekly again for the first time since 1997-1998 (twenty-five years ago... damn!). My kids being boys and being young and into it, that certainly helps. I'm enjoying it, really.

But I can't help but get this mental image of TK backstage with all these ideas for all the different talents that he has but not enough airtime for them all to play out on television, so we're left with what seems or feels like gaps at times in the story telling aspect. I know they have the YouTube and Dark aspect but, let's be real, the "average" fan may not keep up with all that. Or am I wrong there? Have we evolved to it also being on YouTube as well for flow purposes?

I have a ton of respect for TK as living out what would be a dream for so many of us, being a wrestling fan and having the money to start his own promotion and give back to the fans and, in turn, fulfilling a dream of his own. That is amazing and I am thankful for the entertainment he's provided and the nostalgia I've felt in ways that WWE just never has been able to give.

I just recognize that TK is only human, makes mistakes as a human and perhaps he needs to broaden the creative process, if he hasn't already, to more minds than just his own when making final decisions. Perhaps with more minds working together, the creative flow would process better. Please, please stay the hell away from Vince Russo, Bischoff or the likes or their has-been glory-days asses, though. I want AEW to do well, succeed and be around for the majority of my lifetime for myself and my kids, just like WWE has.

Just like WWE needing to spoil the Rumble entrants, wish AEW and Cody didn't say anything about his status or that he's a free agent. Just think if they kept booking Cody to make it seem he was still in AEW only for him to show up on RAW or Smackdown, it would be a much bigger deal imo.
