JR doesn't who 95% of these guys are, I'd be shocked if knew anybody not named Cody Runnels, Matt Jackson, Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson, Chris Jericho. If you watched the live NJPW US shows he did, you would recognize this. Also go back and watch him do commentary on the first MYC it was not good.

Yeah, it's strange with those US NJPW shows, because the first one he did he was entertaining and he brought a lot of energy, but he couldnt keep the names straight. Then after getting called out on it on twitter, on the following US shows he would throw in these weak, passive-aggressive shots at his critics all the time, and the vibe was ruined from then on. His ego couldn't handle it.

He kept screwing up the names because he didn’t prepare for it just like when he was announcing the first Mae Young Classic. His best work in the last 5 years was when he and Nigel worked NXT Takeover Chicago. Where he wasn’t tasked with carrying the match on the mic.

I'm pretty sure WWE has the trademarks for these events so Cody is really pushing his luck with trademarks. Cody has now filed for the trademarks for the following WCW events....

                - "Battlebowl"
                - "Bunkhouse Stampede"
                - " Bash At The Beach"

Cody says he filed alot. Basically trying to get some of his dads stuff back if possible. Worth a shot.

Also, no surprise, JR says he's been in contact with AEW

Kenny Omega appeared on TSN in Canada to talk about the new documentary coming out on Wednesday from TSN that covers his time in Japan. Also talks about AEW and why he didn't go to wwe (creative control reasons). Seeing how Balor,Nakamura,Gallows/Anderson and others have been treated, I think he made right choice.

Cool to have a wrestler on TSN again. They used to be known for some good interviews with Bret,McMahon,Undertaker and many others back when TSN had rights to Raw.

I wonder if TSN could pick up AEW. Rogers has WWE and those rights won't change for awhile, so maybe TSN gets back in wrestling scene with AEW? They have Omega and Jericho as guys who could promote like crazy in Canada.

Bumping this with the news coming out that JR has the most lucrative contract in commentating history. It's going to be hilarious when he commentates on the Fight for the Fallen show after coming out and saying that race, religion and politics shouldn't be involved in wrestling.

Especially old and tired JR. He’s not sounded like JR to me in a decade.

AEW is such a weird deal to me.

Will be wierd having JR commentate a non WWE show. Hopefully he can still call some great moments.

Being a senior advisor as well could be good. Always seemed like ever since wwe moved him out of his talent relations job that they didn't value his opinions as much.

His official title right now is as a senior adviser. But he'll most likely be on commentary as well.

And the great moments he'll give us will be calling Nyla Rose, Kayla; calling Nick Jackson by his brother's name Matt and vice versa, pronouncing Cima as Kima, all stuff that will turn into memes within minutes. He won't give us another Mick Foley v Taker inside Hell in a Cell call ever again. He's completely washed. Cody said it best when he was asked why they were so keen on JR, "Because he's Jim '****ing' Ross".

                                Re: AEW Discussion Thread

The worst is that JR on his podcast is constantly talking about what's right and wrong with wrestling today, and the idea that it needs to be taken more seriously, but his commentary in recent years has been very scattershot, passive aggressive and tangential at best. He can't just do play by play anymore.

He cannot take social media criticism without being defensive and going on overlong responses disguised as self effacing humor. Basically, he shows how much it annoys him by endlessly telling us it doesn't annoying him. It ruined his NJPW run.

So yeah, not a fan of JR doing AEW commentary. I still like the guy tho. Hurrr, sassafrass.
