Re: The career of a man named Lynn - RTTS

    7/31/08

We are finally home and we are facing the Connecticut Defenders in the last game of the month. I had a really good outing tonight as I only allow 2 runs on 6 hits through 7.0 innings and struck out a season high 8 batters. Hopefully I can string a few of these together next month or they may not want me back.

    Code:
                   1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E

    Binghamton 2 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 x - 4 9 0

What a mess! I go into the 7th inning again and our offense has given me nothing for support. I also served up three gopher balls, two to #55, as we got beat by the Baysox, 5-3. I'm starting to think about suing my team for nonsupport but I'm not doing myself any favors either as my HR allowed number continues to grow.

After only 1 day of rest I am called upon to relief against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. I went into the game in the top of the 8th inning, after the guy before me allowed a homer, with no one on, two outs and 6 runs already in this inning. I struck out the batter to end the inning then proceeded to allow a home run in the ninth to give the Fisher Cats another run as we got beat, 10-2. At least this time it wasn't my fault in our shellacking.

          Code:

After pitching 1 1/3 innings in yesterday's blowout, I am called in again today against the Fisher Cats to pitch in the top of the 13th inning. I was able to pitch a scoreless 13th but in the 14th I allowed two runs to score before being pulled with 2 outs and runners on base. Needless to say, the team continues to mire in a hitting slump and we ended up losing 3-1.

After receiving a day of rest I am now called upon to make my start in the last game of the 4-game series with New Hampshire. I got dinged up for single runs in the first and third innings then I got pulled in the fifth after getting the first hitter out with the score tied 2-2. I guess that the manager didn't want me to throw any more because I had already thrown in relief two out of the first three games of the series. My replacement surrendered six runs in the fifth and we went on to lose the game 9-3.

              Code:

Despite how I threw, I managed to reach 4 of my 5 goals with, of course, me not meeting the last goal, which concerned to hits allowed. I received a pat on the back for the good effort and was given five goals for the last three weeks of the regular season.

Our pitchers needed a rest so while we are getting shellacked by the Reading Phillies today, the manager called on me to enter the top of the 8th with 2 on, 2 out and 1 run already in with the score now 11-0. I strike out the hitter to end the 8th then I pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. The team managed to score a run in the 8th and 9th innings and we lost 11-2.

Holy cow! This is a disaster for our man Ryan. If there was a Single A surely he would be sent down with those hits allowed numbers.

We headed on the road after the game yesterday and I was asked to make my scheduled start today against the Bowie Baysox despite pitching 1 1/3 innings yesterday. I got off to a good start and threw four shutout innings before allowing the first two runs of the ball game in the fifth. I allowed the first two hitters of the sixth inning to get hits and was pulled. My replacement allowed those two runners to score and we ended up losing 4-1. I did make some progress though, I think, because I got out of a 1st & 3rd, 0 out jam by striking out the next two hitters then got the next one to ground out to end the inning in the 4th.

The Fisher Cats are in town for our last homestand of the regular season and this is probably my next to last start of the season. I allowed a 2-run homer by #8 to tie the game 4-4, then got pounded some more and left in the fifth inning with runners on base and down 5-4. My replacement again allowed the two runners to score to boost my ERA up even further. When will this disaster end!

It's the last week of the regular season and I had better make my last start a good one. We are on the road in New Hampshire taking on the Fisher Cats. I allowed a 2-run homer in the second inning and thought for certain that this would be yet another short outing but I went 8 innings as I only allowed a single run in the fourth then a solo home run in the 8th. I really don't know what my future brings as I managed to scatter 10 hits in this game to go out on a winning note.
