Re: The career of a man named Lynn - RTTS

Thanks, guys. I'm guessing that it is only going to be a "cup of coffee" for me until a player or two come off the DL.

No offense to the Suns, but I hope that I am no longer going to go down to double-A.

This is also my "contract" year. I hope that my continuing improvement will result in re-upping with the Dodgers organization.

          6/1/12

The Dodgers are now @ Minute Maid Park in Houston visiting the Astros. After a day of rest, I am summoned from the bullpen in the bottom of the 4th with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs and Houston ahead, 5-3. I get the batter to ground out to end the inning and I shut out the Astros the next two innings before being lifted in the top of the 7th for a pinch hitter. I got to make my first appearance at the plate and struck out. The Dodgers tied the game in the top of the 6th and I ended up with a no decision.

The Dodgers continued their road trip and are now in San Diego to face the Padres at Petco Park. I am called in from the bullpen in the bottom of the 4th inning with a man on 1st, one out and the Padres leading, 7-3. I allow 1 hit in the 4th then had a 1-2-3 5th inning before being lifted for a pinch hitter. We were never really in this game and the Dodgers lost, 7-4.

I am called upon again to start the 4th inning against the Padres with San Diego in front, 5-4. I spread out 2 hits as I shut down the Padres lineup for four innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the 8th. San Diego ended up winning the game, 5-4. I also got to the plate again and singled up the middle, my first major league hit. It was off Heath Bell in the 5th inning.

I was called into the manager's office and notified that due to Hiroki Kuroda being activated, I was being sent back to the 51s. They are currently starting a homestand so I will be flying out to Las Vegas.

The Dodgers' GM also told me that I needed to fine tune some things as well and to talk to the pitching coach to get a new set of goals.

                  6/9/12

This morning I reported to the Las Vegas 51s' pitching coach and received the following goals:

                  1. Increase BB/9 attribute over next 7 series
                  2. Increase splitter control over next 7 series
                  3. Increase slider control over next 7 series
                  4. Over the next 7 series, have an opponents' batting average lower than .260
                  5. Over the next 7 series, allow 6 hits or less
                  6. Over the next 7 series, allow 3 or less earned runs.

He also told me that my role with the 51s is going to be that of a MRP. As long as I'm here at triple-A, I'll do what it takes and what they ask.

Tonight the 51s are hosting the Tucson Sidewinders. I am called upon in the top of the 7th inning with a man on 1st, two out and the 51s in front, 6-0. I allow only 1 hit in my 1 1/3 innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the last of the 8th.

The Sidewinders are still in town and I am summoned into the game in the top of the 3rd inning with two outs, a man on 2nd, and Las Vegas in front, 1-0. I completely shut down Tucson's line up as I no-hit them for 4 1/3 innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the 7th with us in front, 2-0. The 51s won the game, 3-0, but the official scorer still gave to win to tonight's starter, Jamey Wright, even though he was taken out in the top of the 3rd. I always thought that the starter had to go five innings in order to get a win, but such is life.

The Portland Beavers are in town and I am called upon in the top of the 4th inning with one out and a man on 1st with us trailing, 1-0. This is probably my worst outing since coming back to Las Vegas as I allow the inherited runner to score and I gave up a solo shot to Richie Sexson in the 5th inning. I ended up being lifted in the bottom of the 7th for a pinch hitter and spreading 4 hits over my 3 2/3 innings of work. The Beavers ended up holding on and won the game, 3-2.

The road to the show certainly doesn't have any short cuts. You have to keep driving the attributes up in order to park yourself in a good spot for the possible call.

                            Orion,

I have completed the top 5 in the triple crown categories for the Phillies, as requested, in my history thread. I have also included the current career lists in several categories as a bonus.

Well, it may have been short, but it certainly was sweet to pitch in the majors!

And just think! You have a career 0.82 ERA in the majors. That's Hall of Fame caliber there!

It's back to the mound I go as I enter the 7th inning in a 1-1 ball game with runners on 1st & second and no one out. I get the first batter to pop up in the middle of the diamond, which I caught. I then get the next hitter to foul out and finish the inning by whiffing the next batter. I get to the plate and strike out and that was it for me as our setup man is brought on since we are now up 2-1. We ended up winning the game, 7-5, thanks to a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th to cap a 5-run outburst to come from behind.
