My next time around was back home in Binghamton and we are hosting the New Britain Rock Cats. My outing was, as usual, a short one as I lasted four innings and allowed ten hit in a losing cause. During the four innings though, I struck out four, caught a pop up in front of the mound and threw out a batter who had laid down a bunt between the mound and the third base line. My battery mate even threw out a runner trying to steal third. A few batters later he was bowled over as a runner tried to score from third on a ground ball to out third baseman. My catcher held on to the ball of the out.

      Code:
                     1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E

We are at Blue River Stadium to take on the New Britain Rock Cats as I take to the hill for my next start. We were caught up in quite a pitcher's duel as both starters had shut out the other's lineup for the first four innings. We were able to scratch out two runs but the home run bug took hold of me and I allowed solo blasts in the 5th and 6th innings to tie the game. After we took back the lead in the top of the 7th, I set down the first two hitters before giving up a double and I was pulled. We hung on to win the game, 3-2, giving me my third win of the season.

          Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E

My on again, off again struggles were on again as I took the hill at home against the Erie Seawolves, leaders of the Eastern League's South Division. I only lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and 4 runs including another tater which broke a 2-2 tie, but we came back and won the game, 6-5, with a walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th. Maybe I can learn another pitch to go with my fastball (which now reaches up to 92 mph), curve and slider but my manager and pitching coach continue to stress trying to reach my goals as being more important.

            Code:
                           1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E

The cellar dwelling Altoona Curve are in Binghamton as I get ready for my next start. I really didn't do as bad as I had looked in the past couple of games as I allow 8 hits through 7 innings, two of them being solo homers, as we lost the game 4-1, bringing my record to 3-11 as my latest goal deadline approaches.

              Code:

The Connecticut Defenders are in town as my turn rolls around again. The fans went nuts as we scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning as I threw a 5-hit complete game, striking out 7 and allowing only one run as #30 belted a home run to break up a no-hit bid in the 3rd inning. We tacked on another run in the 4th and three more in the 8th to win 9-1. Our first baseman was the star of the game as he drove in five of our nine runs. Manager Oliveras and pitching coach Bones were so thrilled with my performance that they will now allow me to add a fourth pitch as long as I continue to make my goals a top priority.

Speaking of goals, I ended up making 2 out of 4 and my hard effort is starting to payoff.

                  My latest goals
                  Code:
                  1. Increase stamina over next two weeks
                  2. Increase h/9 attribute over next two weeks
                  3. Have a WHIP of 1.750 or lower over next two weeks
                  4. At least 14.0 or more innings pitched over next two weeks
                  5. Allow 22 hits or lower over next two weeks
Today I begin learning my fourth pitch, a splitter.

It's Independance Day and we are hosting the Akron Aeros this afternoon to be followed by a fireworks display tonight to conclude the holiday festivities. I gave up a solo homer in the second then was only touched up for another run in the fourth as I scattered hits through 7 innings. However, in the top of the eighth I gave up a couple of hits before being lifted and, thanks to an error, my replacement allowed the inherited runners to score to tie the game and I got a no decision after leaving with a 4-2 lead. We eventually lost the game in 11 innings.

Back on the mound again and this time we are on the road taking on the Connecticut Defenders. I got roughed up a little bit as I only went 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits before being pulled. As normal practice, the team did not hit behind me and we lost the game 4-1. We are in the midst of a losing streak as we start falling farther back in the standings behind front running Trenton. At least today I kept the ball in the ballpark.

Today I am on the mound to face the division leading Trenton Thunder. Unfortunately for me, their bats were booming as I got torched for 4 runs total for the first three innings before not getting anyone out in the 4th. Trenton scored a few more runs and I left with runners on base and 8 runs scored. The reliever coming in allowed the two runners that I had left to score and this nightmare could not end soon enough. We were pounded but the offense came alive in the 7th for 5 runs but we got beat, 11-7. This was my last start before the goal deadline and it certainly wasn't a good one.

Holy crap! Today I found out that I had reached 3 out of the 5 goals and was handed five new goals to reach in the next 3 weeks.

                            3. Have a WHIP of 1.750 or lower over next 7 series
                            4. Have at least 18.1 innings pitched over next 7 series
                            5. Allow 29 hits or less over next 7 series

It's on to Erie, PA on our road trip as we take on the Seawolves. I had a decent outing as I gave up 4 runs on 9 hits in my 7 innings of work. Again, our tough month continues as the team only scores two runs on 7 hits as we fall again, 4-2. Things are just not looking good right now as we are falling out of contention real quick.

We are in Akron to take on the Aeros in our last stop on the road trip before heading home. I got into the seventh inning again despite giving up 3 runs in the first three innings before being pulled. I was able to get the first batter of the seventh to ground out before falling apart. Things have got to start getting better for us but it is starting to look like our playoff chances are getting slim.
