          Clint Hurdle went 2-3, including a 2-run HR, and drove in 3 to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 6-5 come from behind victory over the Boston Red Sox. The HR started the scoring for Kansas City in the 2nd then the teams traded runs in the 3rd on an RBI groundout by Bob Bailey and an RBI single by Hurdle repectively. Boston tied the game on RBI singles by Fred Lynn and Butch Hobson in the 4th and it stayed tied until Jerry Remy belted a 2-run HR in the top of the 8th. The Royals got a run on an RBI single by Poquette then Darrell Porter and Amos Otis both had RBI singles in the bottom of the 9th to win the game.

Boston got 2 runs in the 3rd on a 2-run HR by George Scott and 2 more in the 7th on an RBI single by Carlton Fisk and a sac fly by Fred Lynn. Cowens delivered a solo HR in the bottom of the 9th to avoid the shutout.

Boston jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a 2-run HR by Rice in the 1st plus a 2-run single by Jerry Remy and a 2-run double by Rice in the 2nd. The Tigers got solo runs from an RBI single by Lance Parrish, 2 RBI singles by Alan Trammell plus a solo HR by Steve Kemp. Woods drove in a pair of runs on a 2-run double off Dick Drago (2-1) in the 8th to tie the game before John Wockenfuss had beaten out a throw from Bob Stanley to home on a slow roller by Mankowski to win the game.

          Fred Lynn went 2-4 including a 2-run HR to tie the game but Jason Thompson drove in Alan Trammell on a sac fly in the bottom of the 5th to break a 3-3 tie as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston Red Sox, 4-3. Detroit got on the board first on a 2-run HR by Corcoran in the bottom of the 2nd before Lynn's blast tied the game and Butch Hobson followed it with a solo HR to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. John Wockenfuss drove in the tying run in the bottom of the 4th on a groundout in the last half of the 4th.

The Red Sox got 3 runs in the 4th on a 2-run HR by Bob Bailey and another RBI single by Remy but the Blue Jays answered right back with a 3-run HR by Hutton in their half of the 4th. Toronto's Bill Stein and Jimmy Sexton drove in runs in the 6th to give the Blue Jays a 6-4 lead off Red Sox starter Dennis Eckersley (5-2), who suffered his second straight loss of the season. Victor Cruz came on in the 9th and threw a wild pitch, allowing Frank Duffy to score, but he closed the game out for Toronto. Rick Burleson, Jim Rice and Carl Yastrzemski each left the game due to injuries. Jim Rice suffered a fractured wrist and was placed on the 15-day DL following the game.

Boston got RBI singles from Hobson and Jack Brohamer in the 3rd then an RBI ground out by Carlton Fisk and a 2-run single by Hobson off Toronto starter Jim Colborn to open a 6-0 lead. John Mayberry homered and Bill Stein drove in a run with a double to make it 6-2 then the Red Sox got a run in the 7th and one in the 9th on ground outs by Rick Burleson give Boston back the 6-run lead. Toronto scored on a wild pitch and singles by Rick Manning and Otto Velez before Bob Stanley finally closed the door for the game.

Carbo opened the scoring in the last of the 1st with an RBI single off Mark Fidrych (2-6) to give Boston the lead but a 2-run double by Lou Whitaker made it 2-1 Detroit in the 3rd. Carlton Fisk belted a 2-run HR to give the Red Sox the lead then John Wockenfuss hits a 3-run HR in the top of the 6th and Steve Kemp hits a sac fly in the 7th to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead. An RBI triple by Rick Burleson followed by an RBI single by Jerry Remy and a 2-run HR by Carbo, all in the bottom of the 8th, gave Boston the lead for good.

Detroit scored 2 runs in the 5th on an RBI double by Alan Trammell and an RBI single by Lou Whitaker to cut the Tiger deficit in half then the teams traded runs in the 7th on RBI singles by Ben Oglivie and Jerry Remy to make the score 5-3 Red Sox. The Tigers added a run off reliever Tom Burgmeier on a single by Jason Thompson before Bill Campbell came in and preserved the Boston win.

                          Ed Kranepool belted a 3-run HR in the 1st off Bill Lee (2-5) and went 2-4 in leading the Toronto Blue Jays to a 9-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox. He hit the homer following an RBI single by Roy Howell. The Blue Jays got a solo run in the 2nd on an RBI single by Rick Bosetti then scored two more in the 4th on RBI singles by Tom Hutton and Al Woods. Jimmy Sexton clouted a solo HR in the 5th and Tim Nordbrook added an RBI triple to provide the other Blue Jays runs, Boston scored one run in the 2nd on an RBI single by Rick Burleson then nothing until the 9th when Butch Hobson hit a solo HR and Jerry Remy smashed a 3-run HR.

                          John Mayberry went 3-4, including a solo HR, but it wasn't enough as the Red Sox battered starter Jim Clancy (2-3) around for 7 runs and 9 hits in 3 2/3 innings and defeated the Blue Jays, 7-3. Boston starter Luis Tiant (4-4) went 7 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs and 8 hits to pick up the win. Toronto's other runs were scored by a solo HR by Tom Hutton and an RBI double by Al Woods. Bernie Carbo started the scoring with a solo HR in the last of the 1st then the Red Sox added 4 more on RBI singles by Fred Lynn and Butch Hobson, plus an RBI double by Jerry Remy and a base-loaded walk by Carl Yastrzemski. Carlton Fisk rounded out the Bosox scoring with a 2-run single in the 4th.

Ron Fairly crushed a walk off HR, announced as one of the longest ever hit at Anaheim Stadium, off reliever Tom Burgmeier (2-3) to win the game for California.

                                Luis Tiant went the distance scattering 5 hits and striking out 6 in hurling the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Boston opened the scoring with a sac fly by Carl Yastrzemski then Oakland tied the game on a Mitchell Page solo HR in the bottom of the 4th. Fred Lynn homered in the top of the 6th to break the tie then El Tiante shuts the Athletic lineup down to pick up his 5th win of the season. Carlton Fisk suffered some bruised ribs in a collision with the first baseman on a pickoff throw and was placed on the 15-day DL after the game.

                                Bill Lee pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and walking 2, to hurl the Boston Red Sox to a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. Boston opened the scoring with Fred Lynn belting a solo HR in the top of the 3rd then added 2 more on a 2-run HR by George Scott in the top of the 4th. The Red Sox made it 4-0 on Fred Lynn's second HR of the game then held on as Seattle rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th on an RBI single by Craig Reynolds and a 2-run single by Kevin Pasley before Dick Drago got Leon Roberts to hit into a double play to preserve the Red Sox win.

                                Dwight Evans went 3-5 with a 2-run HR to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 6-5 win over the Seattle Mariners for a 3-game series sweep. Seattle scored first as Craig Reynolds singled in Julio Cruz in the bottom of the 1st then Boston got single runs in the 2nd and 3rd on a double play ground out by George Scott and a solo HR by Rick Burleson, respectively. The Mariners tied the game at 2-2 on an RBI single by Craig Reynolds in the bottom of the 3rd before Jim Rice smacked a 2-run HR off Tom House (1-3) in the top of the 5th to give the Red Sox a 4-2 lead. Seattle came back with RBI singles by Craig Reynolds and Leon Roberts in their half of the 5th then Boston regained the lead with a 2-run HR by Dwight Evans to make it 6-4 Red Sox. Dan Meyer cracked a solo HR in the bottom of the 6th to cut the deficit to 6-5 then a single by Bob Stinson chased Bill Campbell (2-1) to begin the 8th inning. Bob Stanley got Julio Cruz to hit into a double play with the bases loaded to end the threat. Stanley allowed a 2-out single by Leon Roberts in the 9th before getting Rupert Jones to ground out to end the game.
