Rick Wise hurled a 2-hit shutout as he led the Cleveland Indians to a 5-0 win over the Boston Red Sox. Cleveland opened the scoring with a solo run in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI double by Andre Thornton. John Grubb drove in a run in the 3rd with a double, followed by an RBI triple by Kuiper in the 4th and a 2-run HR by Mike Vail in the 5th to complete the scoring.

Wayne Garland threw 3 no-hit innings and went 9 innings allowing 2 runs and 4 hits as he led the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox in 12 innings. Boston opened the scoring with a 2-run triple by Jerry Remy in the top of the 5th before Cleveland answered back with 2 runs of there own in the bottom half on RBI singles by Duane Kuiper and Jim Norris. Mike Vail sent the fans home happy with an RBI single in the last of the 12th off losing pitcher Bill Campbell.

Fred Lynn went 3-4 and drove in 4 runs, 3 of them with a bases loaded triple in the bottom of the 6th as the Boston Red Sox won the home opener, 6-2, over the Texas Rangers. Dennis Eckersley picked up his second win of the season as he pitched 8 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits before giving way to Dick Drago to pitch the 9th.

Fergie Jenkins pitched a complete game but allowed Jim Rice to send the home fans home happy as Rice crushed a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th as Boston defeated the Texas Rangers, 2-1. Claudell Washington drove in the Rangers' only run with a solo HR in the top of the 8th to give Texas a 1-0 lead until Rice's heroics in the bottom of the 9th.

Carl Yastrzemski went 2-4, including a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 8th, to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 13-3 win over the Texas Rangers to sweep the 3-game weekend series. Boston opened the scoring with a 2-run double by Carlton Fisk in the 1st and Bernie Carbo scoring on a double play in the 2nd. Texas came back with 2 runs in the 3rd on an RBI single by Mike Ivie and an RBI ground out by Mike Hargrove. Pat Putnam hit a solo HR in the top of the 6th then the Red Sox exploded for 5 runs in each of the 7th and 8th innings for the winning margin.
