Garza, Cubs end losing streak at 3

Pittsburgh (AP) - The bats sure came alive forthe Cubs today who had been held to just a total of 6 runs in their past 3 games and just 2 in their past two games. The Cubs scored 10 today, mostly off of the Pittsburgh bullpen in relief of A.J. Burnett. Both Alfonso Soriano and Ian Stewart hit home runs to support starter Matt Garza in his quest of a 3rd win. Garza started off the game striking out 7 of the first 10 batters he faced but only was able to get two more punchouts after that point.

Cubs Corner: Garza picks up his 3rd win of the season....David DeJesus struck out 3 times but also got his 7th triple of the year...Alfonso Soriano picked up his 2nd triple and his 9th homer of the year...Darwin Barney who had been cold as of late picked up 3 hits...Bryan LaHair, newly moved to the #5 hole walked twice and doubled...Tony Camapana was the spark plug again for the Cubs stealing 2nd and 3rd en route to an RBI single by Starlin Castro to break things open for the Cubs; Campana now has 16 steals on the season...Game 3 will pit Jeff Samardzija (5-1, 1.87) against Erik Bedard (1-3, 6.12)

Re: Chicago Cubs: Breaking The Curse: 103 Years and Counting (The Show 12)

      Big Move from Defending Champs

Adam Wainwright will be making a move to Cleveland

(MLB News): In a late May Move the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians have come to terms on a trade that will send the 2010 NL Cy Young runner up to Cleveland. The official terms of the deal have just been released.

Cardinals Get: Francisco Lindor (SS), Ronny Rodriguez (SS), Felix Sterling (SP)
Indians Get: Adam Wainwright (SP), Tony Cruz (C)

For the Cardinals they get the 18 year old Felix Sterling who has been rated as having B Potential and was rated as the preseason #10 Prospect in the Indians organization...The Cardinals will move him to Triple A which may mean the phenom may make his MLB debut earlier than expected.

The Cardinals also get Francisco Lindor, a 19 year old Short Stop with A potential that has been listed as the #1 prospect in the Indians organization. He will also be moved to Triple A to start his time with the Cardinals organization.

The Icing on the cake for the Cardinals appears to be Ronny Rodriguez, a 19 year old Short Stop with B potential who has been listed as the Indians #6 prospect. He will join his former and new teammates at Triple A for the beginning of his stint with the Cardinals.

Recap of what the Cardinals get: #1, #6 and #10 prospects from the Indians

The Indians on the flipside get Adam Wainwright, who hopefully benefit from a change of scenery. Wainwright on the season is 3-5 with a 3.94 era and has stuck our 48 batters over 59.1 innings this season. With injuries to Josh Tomlin and Derek Lowe the Indians were hurting for a good starter as Ubaldo Jimenez, Justin Masterson and Fausto Carmona are all having a rough stretch.

The other piece of the puzzle for the Indians is Catcher Tony Cruz, a rookie that has hit .308 in 39 at bats in the big leagues this season with 1 HR and 7 RBI's. Cruz will be the backup to Carlos Santana who like other indians is having a rough season only hitting .213 and has struck out 52 times.

Recap on What Indians get: #2 Pitcher and #2 Catcher

The Cardinals make sense for sellers as they are 7 games out of first but even then it is still early in the season, Nick Additon will take Wainwright's spot in the rotation while Chris Carpenter continues his rehab in Double A. Catcher Bryan Anderson was called up from AAA and will take the place of Tony Cruz backing up Yadier Molina.

The Indians are 7.5 games behind the Tigers in the AL Central and appear to want to win now and believe Wainwright gives them that opportunity.

Samardzija, Cubs pick up win and take Series in Pitt

Pittsburgh (AP) - In a game that was relatively devoid of excitment the Cubs bested the Pirates 2-0. The game featured a total of 18 hits, but the interesting part was every single one of those hits was a single as there were no extra base hits in the game. The Cubs offense was backed by some unlikely characters in Darwin Barney and Jeff Samardzija as the only players to get RBI's in the game. The Pirates got a great spot start from Chris Resop who didn't allow any runs in 6 innings of work.

Cubs Corner: Darwin Barney had 3 hits as did Jeff Baker...Barney picked up his 8th RBI while Samardzija picked up his first...Carlos Marmol finished the game with 1 walk and 2 stikeouts to pick up his 10th save...The Cubs will head back home to face the San Diego Padres to end the month of May, the probable starters are Chris Volstad (3-2, 4.28) and Anthony Bass (5-2, 2.21), the Padres have a record of 27-22 which is a half game worse than the Cubs 27-21.

          Cubs Minors plauged by injury

Chicago (AP) - While the Major League Cubs haven't had to deal with many injuries thus far in the season the rest of the organization has been plauged with tons of injuries, which may cause issues if the Big league squad were to have someone go down.

Here is a look at the Disabled List for the Cubs organization.

5 Run First proves enough for Cubs

Chicago (AP) - Despite coming into the game with one of the best ERA's in the league, Anthony Bass struggled early against the Cubs. Bass gave up 5 runs in the first inning and was pulled after 3 innings of work and 6 runs allowed. The highlight of the 1st inning was when Alfonso Soriano put his 10the homer of the season into the bleachers. The Homer was the Career Home Run number 350 for the Slugging Soriano.

Cubs Corner:Alfonso Soriano hit his 10th homer on the year, 350 on the career, as well as knockd in his 30th RBI on the season...Starlin Castro committed his 6th error, stole his 19th base hit his 6th double and knocked in his 25th RBI...Darwin Barney had a multi hit game for 3rd game in a row and has worked his average above .200 for the first time in a long streatch...Chris Volstad was less than spectacular giving up 8 hits and a walk over 6 innings but did just enough to get the win, his 4th on the year...Carlos Marmol gave the Cubs a scare in the 9th as he gave up two hits and hit a batter as well as gave up a run but was able to get out of the jam before giving up the lead for his 11th save...Michael Bowden remained stellar out of the pen, working 2 innings and giving up no runs to keep his era under 0.50.

              Cubs Bullpen gives up another

Chicago (AP) - Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision today, on one side Tim Stauffer gave up 5 hits and 1 run over 7 innings while Paul Maholm gave up 2 runs on 11 hits in 8 innings. Maholm was aided by Alfonso Soriano who threw his 5th runner out at the plate from Left field to keep the game close. The Cubs were able to tie the game in the 8th off of a RBI triple from Tony Campana, however Casey Coleman came in and was unable to get any outs so the Cubs turned to Lendy Castillo who had been perfect thus far. Castillo gave up a hit that plated two and then gave up two ground balls that also plated another. Huston Street gave the Pads a scare by putting two on with 2 outs but was able to wiggle out of the jam by getting Darwin Barney to pop up.

Cubs Corner: Paul Maholm gave up 11 hits but only 2 runs in 8 innings of work....Starlin Castro stole his 20th base on the year...Tony Campana hit his 4th triple on the season...Casey Coleman has struggled out of the pen since being called up to replace Kerry Wood who retired and picked up the loss today....Lendy Castillo gave up his first earned run out of the bullpen today...David DeJesus has been hitless in his last 3 games which is 13 at bats in those 3 games...The Rubber match should feature Ryan Dempster (4-4, 2.48) and Dustin Moeley (3-4, 3.64).....Add SP Jay Jackson to the Disabled List for AAA Iowa as he was pulled from his start with an Inflamed hip and will miss 3-4 weeks.

Cubs end May on High note

Chicago (AP) The Cubs got another Complete Game from Ryan Dempster who now leads the league in Complete games but only has 4 wins. Dempster gave up 1 earned run over 9 innings and gave up 6 hits and 2 walks. The Cubs stuck with Dempster despite him walking two in the 9th and putting the tying run in scoring position. San Diego starter Dustin Moseley was injured in the 4th inning after pitching a strike but he would be fine as the pulling him was just a precaution.

Cubs Corner: The Cubs finish 16-11 in the month of may and hold a 6 game lead on the 2nd place Reds....Steve Clevenger hit his 3rd Double....Ryan Dempster picked up his 4th complete game....Starlin Castro committed his 12th error...

Garza, Cubs sneak by in the Bay

San Francisco (AP) - The Chicago Cubs got the better of the Giants today in a 1 run game that featured a pitching duel the entire game. Matt Garza picked up the win and Matt Cain the loss. What is unfortunate for Matt Cain is that he gets the loss despite giving up 0, thats right 0, earned runs in the game. The sole run of the game came off of a line drive that went off of Aubrey Huff's glove allowing Bryan LaHair to score in the 4th inning. Cain allowed just 4 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings while counterpart Garza allowed 3 hits and 2 walks over the same 8 innings.

Editors Note: Prior to the game I adjusted my pitching difficulty to make it more difficult as it appears that I am not walking enough batters nor am I giving up the kind of runs that I would expect as the Cubs...I have done nothing to the batting difficulty as it seems I struggle getting over 5 hits a game in most games, if this changes I will also up the difficulty.

                            Brewers and Cubs in extras.....Again

Milwaukee (AP) - The Cubs and the Brewers needed 15 innings to decide the game. The extra innings is nothing new to the Brewers and the Cubs as the two have seemingly have had to go to extra innings every time they have played this year. Ryan Dempster pitched 10 innings for the Cubs and gave up just 2 hits over the 10 innings but that wasn't enough for the Cubs as a RBI double by Jonathan Lucroy won the game in the bottom of the 15th.

Cubs Corner: James Russell falls to 2-4 after giving up the win today...Bryan Lahair had the only Cubs extra base hit with a double...Ryan Dempster went 10 innings and gave up just 2 hits but didn't get a decision; there was speculation he would go back out in the 11th but was taken out for a pinch hitter....The Cubs bullpen has been vastly overworked the past few days but did a solid job going 4 and 1/3 with only 4 hits and 1 run allowed.
