    Looking good as always!
Ken Giles, C Tommy Joseph and Cody Asche are the only young guys I'll most likely bring up. My shortstop Crawford is tempting, and I haven't made a decision on whether to bring him up yet. Ethan Martin is going to come up, and may take Jonathan Pettibone's rotation slot. He has 186 K in AAA and I love me some flamethrowers. Everyone else will be retread veterans who are on their last legs.

John Mayberry was injured running to first today, and is likely headed to the DL. Domonic Brown is ready from his rehab stint and will slide right in splitting time with Travis Snider until he's settled in. Brown hit .258/.361/.355 in 9 games at AAA without any homers.

      Series #39:

      (71-56) vs.
      (54-73)

Game 1: Maikel Franco and Marlon Byrd homered as the Phillies overcame a three error game to win 5-2. Jesse Biddle improved to 3-0 by allowing two runs in six innings. (Due to a glitch in the game where I was unable to insert a pitcher from the bullpen, Casey Kotchman was forced to throw to a batter. He forced a flyout to right, which is better than what his replacement, Jake Diekman brought to the table.)

Game 2: St. Louis went up 10-0 in the fourth inning, and coasted to an easy win to even the series. Jon Pettibone didn't have it tonight, surrendering ten hits in just three innings. Jaime Garcia took a one hitter into the 7th inning, where he was roughed up a bit but still earned the win.

Game 3: Cesar Hernandez had himself quite the game. The infielder launched an Adam Wainwright fastball into the right field bleachers in the fourth innings, and wasn't done there. Hernandez hit a game winning RBI single in the eighth and ended up with all three RBI in the game. Ernesto Frieri has turned a lot of head since showing up in Philly, and mowed down the side to earn save number 39 on the year. Maikel Franco saw his 15 game hitting streak come to an end.

          Series #40:

          (61-69) vs.
          (56-74)

Game 1: A rare display of inaccuracy didn't stop Cole Hamels from plowing through the Nationals to open this three game series. Hamels walked six batters, but failed to allow a run in his eight plus innings of work. Marlon Byrd lead the way offensively, collecting three hits and three RBI.

Game 2: Jordan Zimmerman matched Hamels from the day before, also throwing eight strong innings. His counterpart, Cliff Lee, had one strange outing. Lee allowed five runs on twelve hits on the day, but also struck out twelve. Washington struck out a whopping seventeen times on the day. Lee also hit his first home run of the year, and is the first Phillie pitcher this season to do so.

Game 3: Tony Gwynn Jr was 3/4 with a triple, and Darin Ruf was 3/4 with an RBI to help Philadelphia win their second straight series. The go ahead run was scored in the 7th inning when Cameron Rupp drew a walk with the bases loaded. Ernesto Frieri earned save number forty on the season.

            Series #41:

            (58-75) vs.
            (50-84)

Game 1: Matt Harvey threw a complete game for New York, striking out just five batters on the night. Harvey allowed nine hits and a run to improve his record to 7-10. Jon Pettibone pitched better than the box score indicates, but gave up a two run homer to David Wright at a bad time.

Game 2: Marlon Byrd had the worst game of his career, committing two of the Phillies four errors and striking out twice before being pulled from the game. It was an ugly game all around, and the Mets scored five times in the seventh to pull away.

Game 3: Darin Ruf and Tony Gwynn Jr. combined to drive in seven runs, and Cameron Rupp hit a big pinch hit home run when it was still close. Cole Hamels wasn't sharp, but staying in long enough for the run support to kick in.

                Series #42:

                (59-77) vs.
                (78-59)

Game 1: Alex Wood was dominant today, throwing a complete game shutout to squeak by the Phils. Cliff Lee earned loss number 17 on the year, though he pitched well. The teams combined to record just ten hits on the day.

Game 2: Just when you thought yesterday would put you to sleep, the Braves and Phillies upped their game tonight. Philadelphia would prevail 1-0 in 17 innings, with both teams using their newly stocked rosters to help keep arms from tiring. Maikel Franco would play hero, smashing an RBI double to right center to score Ben Revere. The Braves struck out an astonishing 26 times in the game, with starter Jesse Biddle fanning 13 on his own. Biddle allowed just one hit and two walks in 6.1 innings.

Game 3: Chase Utley went 2/4 with a home run and four RBI to take the series for the Phils. Callup Reid Brignac went 3/4 with a double in his season debut, while Lance Nix was 2/4. The Braves offense went to sleep all series, finishing with just 18 hits in the 35 innings played this series.

                  (61-78) vs.
                  (65-74)

Game 1: Ernesto Frieri blew his first save as a member of the Phillies, allowing a walk off home run to Bryce Harper. Domonic Brown had given the Phils the lead in the top of the ninth with his own two run shot, but it wasn't to be. Ethan Martin was solid in his season debut, allowing two runs in five innings.

Game 2: The 2nd game of this series looks very similar to yesterdays events. Mike Adams imploded in the 7th inning, allowing three runs on a Stephen Souza bases clearing double. Miguel Gonzalez made a seamless transition to the rotation, allowing just four hits and a run on the day.

Game 3: The Nationals earned a sweep after coasting to a 7-3 victory this afternoon. Jordan Zimmerman improved to 13-5 on the year, throwing seven solid innings. Cole Hamels ran into trouble in the third and sixth innings, but was dominant in most of his outing. Maikel Franco and Dominic Brown both homered for the Phillies.

Re: Putting the Fight Back in the Phils - MLB the Show 14

I'll be running these rumors every so often to add some storylines to the franchise. Some of this will be true, some will not. Some moves will come out of left field.

                    - There are whispers in New York that both general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi are on the hot seat. The Yankees are just 65-77 this year and are last in the AL East. There is especially heat on Cashman for only trading David Robertson despite the team's poor record at the deadline.

                    - Billy Butler is having a terrific season in 2014, and will probably cash in this winter as a free agent. The Indians rental is hitting .293/.369/.493 this year with 24 home runs. While Butler has said he is a big fan of his new home, he will wait for free agency before he decides.

                    - The Philadelphia Phillies have confirmed that manager Ryne Sandberg will return to the team in 2015. Sandberg has 3 years left on his deal and has full support from GM Mcgee.

                    - David Wright is open to a trade if the New York Mets decide to shop him. According to a source close to Wright, the third baseman is "tired of losing" and "doesn't see the turnaround coming anytime soon." A trade of Wright could be difficult, with the veterans super deal that runs six more years.

                    - Carlos Gomez is another name to watch this winter. The 28 year old has disappointed this year, hitting .230/296/.428 with 20 HR and 22 steals. While he is under contract through 2016, the Brewers may look to maximize his value by shopping him at the winter meetings.

If anyone wants to create their own storylines (players unhappy, teams unhappy with players, hot seat coaches and GMs, disgruntled mascots and plenty of things I'm sure I haven't even thought of), please PM me any plots you would like to see and I can add some "sources" to the segment.

Since there are only glimpses of my universe as far as stats go I'll happily fill anyone in on those to help your narrative. If you do participate, please PM them instead of leaving it here to hide the source. Thanks in advance to anyone interested. I'll try to roll a rumor thread out once every couple series or so.

                          Series #43:

                          (72-70) vs.
                          (61-81)

Game 1: Welcome back John Mayberry! The outfielder started his first game after being activated from the DL and certainly left his mark. Mayberry crushed a home run in his first two at bats, helping lead the Phillies to a 6-3 win. Cliff Lee was great, allowing just four hits in eight.

Game 2: Jesse Biddle finally got roughed up, as Andrew McCutchen and friends feasted on the rookie. Pitcher Jeff Locke threw a complete game four hitter, but that wasn't even his crowning achievement today. Locke drove in three runs on the day, a team high.

Game 3: Maikel Franco has quickly become a fan favorite with his great play since anchoring the second spot in the Phillies lineup. Today, Franco was the hero with his walk off RBI single in the 9th inning. Travis Snider hit a big pinch hit, three run home run in the fifth tie the game. Former Phillie AJ Burnett took a no decision for Pittsburgh, allowing five runs on seven hits in 5.

Game 4: It wasn't his prettiest start, but Gerrit Cole picked up his 12th victory today to even the series. Cole allowed ten hits and struck out eight batters on the day. Ethan Martin found pitching in the majors a little bit more difficult this time, running into major trouble in the fourth. All Philly pitchers seems to have control problems, as the team walked 7 batters on the day.

                                Series #44:

                                (63-83) vs.
                                (63-83)

Game 1: Game one of the series would be a pitchers duel, with Herderson Alvarez coming to town to face red hot Miguel Gonzalez. Both pitchers threw well, allowing a run each. Gonzalez went an extra inning and won the strikeout battle seven to nothing. Dom Brown got todays walk off for the Phillies, scoring pinch runner Tony Gwynn on a sac fly to earn the 2-1 victory. Ryan Howard was activated off the DL prior to todays game, and entered as a pinch hitter. Expect Howard to mostly pinch hit or DH over the rest of the year.

Game 2: What was a good game turned into a calamity of errors for the Phillies. With the score tied 4-4 going into the seventh, the Philly bullpen imploded. Mario Hollands took the loss, allowing a couple runs to score while recording only an out. In the ninth, September callup BJ Rosenberg lost all control. The righty allowed seven runs, five earned in the ninth inning on just three hits. Cesar Hernandez had two errors in the inning, Rosenberg threw two wild pitches and Tommy Joseph surrendered a passed ball. Rookie Derek Dietrich hit his first two career home runs to help Miami in the win.

Game 3: Has Cliff Lee found his stuff again? The veteran threw a complete game, striking out ten and allowing just two runs. Dietrich strikes again, launching a homer into the right field seats to score both Marlin runs. Tony Gwynn drove in two runs to lead Philadelphia.

                                Game 1:

                                Game 2:

                                Game 3:

                                - Could Giancarlo Stanton be traded? Sources tell me the Miami Marlins are unhappy with Stanton's work ethic and with a monster contract looming, will look to sell. Stanton battled an injury this year, and has played just 89 games, hitting .275/.359/.467 with 15 home runs.

                                - If the Baltimore Orioles do not make the postseason, don't expect Buck Schowalter to return. The O's went all in at the deadline, trading top prospect Eduardo Rodriguez to the Reds in a deal for ace Johnny Cueto. While Cueto has been great, the Orioles have struggled and currently sit outside of a playoff spot. Showalter is in the last year of his deal, but has expressed interest in staying with the club.

                                - Boston Red Sox ace Jon Lester told reporters after today's game in Kansas City that he will take a discount if needed to stay in Boston. "This has been my home for eight or nine years, and hopefully many more. We have the ability to stay in the hunt for a long time, and I want to continue to work to reach our goal of winning more titles for Boston."

                                - Mark Teixeira is having one of the greatest seasons of his career, and it could be his last. Teixeira (.273/.351/.535, 42 HR, 115 RBI) reportedly wants to go out on his own terms, and while he hasn't answered this question publicly, rumors are starting to swirl. It would be a shame to see him go before hitting his 400th home run, a number he is currently 17 homers away from.
