    Game #5

    CHICAGO 7, ARIZONA 3

Kris Bryant sends one into the stratosphere.

    4/8/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Chicago Cubs picked up their first win of 2016 on Friday night, using the long ball to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3 at Chase Field. The teams combined to hit five home runs in a pretty entertaining game.

Chicago would grab the lead in the top of the first off of Archie Bradley. Jason Heyward singled to open the ballgame, then Kris Bryant hit a monster home run deep into the left field bleachers.

A.J. Pollack responded for the DBacks, hitting the first pitch that he saw over the wall in left to draw Arizona to within 2-1.

Phil Gosselin would tie it in the second, hitting a solo home run to left.

The Cubs would retake the lead in the fourth. Kyle Schwarber walked to open the inning, and reached second on a Ben Zobrist single. Dexter Fowler then doubled home Schwarber to put Chicago up 3-2. After Kyle Hendricks drew a four pitch walk, former Diamondback Miguel Montero lined a single to center scoring both Zobrist and Fowler to make it 5-2.

Kyle Schwarber would extend the lead to 6-2 in the fifth, hitting a solo home run to right.

Socrates Brito cut the lead to 6-3 in the sixth with a one-out single to right, scoring Paul Goldschmidt. But Justin Grimm came out of the bullpen for Chicago and got the Cubs out of a bases loaded jam, getting Phil Gosselin to bounce into a 6-4-3 inning ending double play.

Addison Russell would add a long solo home run off of Daniel Hudson in the eighth for the Cubs final run.

The series resumes on Saturday evening with Jason Hammel (0-0, 0.00) facing Zach Greinke (0-1, 5.14).

      Game #6

      CHICAGO 7, ARIZONA 2

Kris Bryant lined a double to center in the third inning.

      4/9/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Chicago Cubs used a quick start, to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 on Saturday evening at Chase Field. Kris Bryant went 3 for 5 with two doubles to lead the offensive charge for the Cubs.

Kyle Schwarber got the Cubs going in the first inning, hitting a bases loaded two-run ground rule double off of Zach Greinke to get the Cubs on the board. Ben Zobrist would add an RBI ground out to make it 3-0.

Jean Segura would get one back off of Jason Hammel in the bottom of the first, hitting a solo home run to left center.

Kris Bryant would score again in the third, leading off with a double, advancing to third on a ground out and scoring on a Schwarber sacrifice fly.

The Cubs would blow this one open in the seventh. Dexter Fowler tripled to center to open the inning. He would score on a Greinke wild pitch. Jason Heyward then pounded a Greinke fastball over the wall in right to make it 6-1. Kris Bryant then doubled to end Greinke's night. He would score on an Anthony Rizzo single off of reliever Robbie Ray.

Paul Goldschmidt would get one back for the DBacks in the bottom of the eighth, lacing a single to center that scored A.J. Pollack.

Zack Greinke (0-2, 7.24) has been rather awful in his first two starts after getting big money this offseason. He went 6 2/3 on Saturday night, allowing seven earned runs on ten hits. He struck out 10 and walked none.

The series and homestand concludes on Sunday afternoon as Patrick Corbin (0-0, 3.00) will face Cubs ace Jake Arrieta (0-1, 6.75)

        Game #7

        CHICAGO 9, ARIZONA 5

Kris Bryant goes yard in the first inning.

        4/10/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Chicago Cubs finished off their weekend series with a 9-5 drubbing of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Sunday afternoon. The Cubs pounded out sixteen hits as they won for the third straight game, taking three of four from the Diamondbacks.

Once again, it was a quick start, scoring three in the top of the first inning, this time off of Patrick Corbin. Dexter Fowler and Anthony Rizzo hit one out singles, then red-hot Kris Bryant hit a three-run bomb to left to make it 3-0.

Nick Ahmed would double home A.J. Pollack to get one back in the bottom half off of Jake Arrieta.

Jason Hayward doubled to lead off the third and score on a Dexter Fowler single to right. Jorge Solar reached on an infield single in the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, to score Dexter Fowler to put the Cubs up 5-1.

A.J. Pollack hit a long solo home run to left, in the bottom of the fifth, off of Arrieta, to cut the Cubs lead to 5-2.

Addison Russell would single home Kris Bryant in the seventh, who had doubled to lead off the inning. The Cubs would put it away in the eighth, as Jorge Solar hit a bases loaded RBI single to center and Addison Russell hit a two-run single to center off of reliever Evan Marshall.

Arizona would not go away quietly though. Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run in the eighth, and Jean Segura lined an RBI single in the ninth to cut the Cubs lead to 9-5. The DBacks left the bases loaded in both the eighth and ninth.

Kris Bryant will be sad to leave Chase Field. He went 7 for 15 with three doubles, two home runs and five RBIs in the series.

The DBacks have tomorrow off before starting a ten game road trip in Los Angeles as they take on the Dodgers in their home opener Tuesday afternoon.

              Game #8

              LOS ANGELES 3, ARIZONA 2

Yasiel Puig hit the game winning home run in the bottom of the eighth.
              4/12/16
Los Angeles, CA (AP) – The Los Angeles Dodgers rallied late to win their home opener 3-2 over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday afternoon at Dodger Stadium. Yasiel Puig broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a home run to dead center field.

The Dodgers (4-4) opened the game by loading the bases, then getting a sacrifice fly from Corey Seager to grab a 1-0 lead.

Arizona (2-6) would draw even in the top of the third as Paul Goldschmidt hit a long solo home run to left center field. That lead would be short lived though as Kike Hernandez homered to left off of Shelby Miller in the bottom of the fourth to put the Dodgers back in front.

The game would remain 2-1 all the way into the eighth. Pedro Baez came on in relief of Alex Wood, and walked Chris Owings. One out later, David Peralta reached on an infield single. Paul Goldschmidt then laced a double down the left field line to tie the game at 2-2.

Yimi Garcia then came on in relief of Baez and got Pollack to bounce back to the mound. Chris Hatcher then came on and got Wilington Castillo to fly out to deep left to get out of the inning.

That set the stage for Yasiel Puig's heroics. He hit a one-out blast to dead center just out of the reach of A.J. Pollack to give the Dodgers the lead. Kenley Jansen then came on to earn the save in the ninth.

The series resumes on Wednesday evening with Rubby De La Rosa (1-0, 0.00) facing Kenta Maeda (1-0, 0.00).

Jean Segura lined a bases loaded double in the seventh.

                4/13/16
Los Angeles, CA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a four game losing streak on Wednesday evening as they held on for an 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. A.J. Pollack led the offensive charge for the DBacks, going 2 for 4 with a double, scoring three runs.

Arizona built a 5-1 lead early on and appeared as though they would cruise to the win, but nothing seems to be easy for this team in 2016. Kike Hernandez single home Corey Seager, who doubled to open the inning to cut the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

The Dbacks responded with three of their own in the top of the seventh, thanks to a bases loaded, two-run double from Jean Segura.

But the Dodgers pecked away at the Arizona bullpen, and scraped together four runs in the bottom half of the seventh to cut the lead to 8-6. Yasiel Puig hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 8-7, but Robbie Ray got Adrian Gonzalez to fly out to end the inning with the tying run on third.

Brad Zeigler then came on and sent the Dodgers down in order in the ninth to earn his second save and end the DBacks four game losing streak.

The series wraps on Thursday evening with Archie Bradley (0-1, 10.80) facing Ross Stripling (1-0, 0.00).

Tyler Clippard dished up a three-run bomb in the bottom of the 11th.

                  4/14/16
Los Angeles, CA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks won an exciting extra inning battle 6-5 on Thursday evening over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Chris Owings sacrifice fly in the twelfth helped the DBacks overcome a blown eleventh inning lead, and win their second straight.

The Dbacks grabbed the lead in the third inning on a David Peralta sacrifice fly, scoring A.J. Pollack. He reached after getting hit by a pitch.

The Dodgers would tie it up in the bottom of the fourth. Yasiel Puig singled to open the frame. He reached third on an Adrian Gonzalez single to right and scored on an infield single from Corey Seager.

Paul Goldschmidt's fourth home run on the year would put the Dbacks back in front in the fifth.

Los Angeles would tie it up in the seventh on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze. Yasmani Grandel laid down a perfect bunt as Kike Hernandez broke from third. Paul Goldschmidt fielded the bunt, but had no play at the plate, allowing the Dodgers to tie the game.

in the eleventh, things got wild. Yasmany Tomas doubled home two to put Arizona up 4-2. Chris Herrmann would add a sacrifice fly to put the DBacks up by three. But that lead would not last as Kike Hernandez hit a three run bomb off of reliever Tyler Clippard in the bottom half to send the game to the twelfth.

In the twelfth, Jean Segura doubled to open the frame and advanced to third on a one-out passed ball. He would score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Owings. Randall Delgado pitched a perfect bottom half to secure the win.

Paul Goldschmidt leads the National League with five home runs in April.

                        4/15/16
San Diego, CA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks won their third straight start on Friday night as they opened a three game weekend series in San Diego with an 8-3 victory over the first-place Padres at Petco Park. Paul Goldschmidt was a triple short of the cycle, driving in four to lead the offensive charge.

The Padres (8-3) got off to a good start off of Zack Greinke. Matt Kemp doubled off the wall in left with two outs. He then scored on a Brett Wallace single to right to put the Padres up 1-0.

Jake Lamb would get that run back in the top of the second with his first home run on the season, hitting one into the right field seats. David Peralta would put Arizona in front for the first time in the third, with a two-out two-run single.

Paul Goldschmidt hot his National League leading fifth home run, a two-run shot, in the top of teh fifth to put Arizona up 5-1. Goldschmidt would hit a two-run double in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-1.

Zack Greinke (1-2) would finally look like the guy that the DBacks were expecting when they signed him last winter. He went 8 2/3, allowing just two earned runs, while striking out nine.

The series resumes on Saturday evening with Patrick Corbin (0-1, 6.10) facing Padres ace James Shields (1-0, 1.26).

Yangervis Solarte had a big night, driving in six.

                          4/16/16
San Diego, CA (AP) – The San Diego Padres snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday night as they outlasted the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-7 at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. Yangervis Solarte had a big night, going 3 for 5 with a double, home run and six runs batted in, to lead the first-place Padres.

Arizona (5-7) would take a 1-0 lead in the second off of Padres ace James Shields, as David Peralta led off with a double, then scored on a couple of ground outs.

The Padres would break out offensively, after scoring just four runs combined in their last two games, both loses. They score three in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth and sixth innings.

The DBacks did not fold though, getting four back in the top of the sixth and two in the eighth, before Padres closer Fernando Rodney sent the DBacks down in order in the ninth. It was his fifth save on the season.

The story for the Padres was Yangervis Solarte. He hit an RBI single in the third. A two-run homer in the fifth and a bases clearing double in the sixth, after the DBacks had closed to within 7-5.

The rubber match on Sunday will see Shelby Miller (0-0, 2.13) face Andrew Cashner (2-0, 0.60).

Bro, great job on cutting all of the pictures together to make it flow nicely. Look on Clippard's face when he gave up the 3-run bomb was hilarious and fits with how pitchers react in real life!

San Diego, CA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from an early 2-0 hole to defeat the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of their three game weekend series. David Peralta keyed the comeback with a big two-run go ahead home run in the top of the seventh.

San Diego grabbed the lead in the second inning off of Shelby Miller as Brett Wallace hit a long solo home run to left.

Shelby Miller would start the fourth, but after giving up a leadoff single to Alexei Ramirez, he was forced to leave the game with an apparent hand injury. Robbie Ray came on in relief, and gave up an RBI single to Yangervis Solarte.

Arizona would finally get to Andrew Cashner in the sixth. Jake Lamb lined a one out single to center, then scored on a Welington Castillo double into the left field corner. In the seventh, A.J. Pollack reached on an error to lead off the inning to end Cashner's night. Jean Sugura grounded out and Paul Goldschmidt popped out. But Carlos Villanueva could not get out of the inning as he hung a slider that David Peralta smashed over the wall in center to put Arizona up 3-2.

The DBacks would add an unearned run in the eighth as Nick Ahmed reached on an error and scored on an A.J. Pollack single.

The Diamondbacks (6-7) took two of three from the first place Padres and have won back-to-back series on the road at Los Angeles and San Diego. They will head up the coast to the Bay Area to play four with the San Francisco Giants (7-6) to conclude their ten game road trip.
