I was trying to figure that one out myself! It looks like the rosters were finalized before Delgado signed in Florida, and the Sox signed him.

And yeah, I completely forgot about Trot Nixon. Always thought that was a cool name.

                Bucs, Jays Swap Players

Four players need new visas after the Pirates and Blue Jays traded two players each today.

Going to the Blue Jays were the outfielders Tike Redman and Marcus Redman, the latter of whom has spent the majority of the season in AAA. Tike Redman has had a phenomenally disappointing season, being one of the few players on the Bucs' major league roster to cost the team games.

Heading south of the border are CF Steve Brassard and reliever Brandon League. Brassard has batted .231/.342/.375 this season in 208 at-bats. League has thrown 26.1 innings this season, tossing for a 3.42 ERA with 19 strikeouts. The outfielder will be assigned to the Pirates, likely gaining some platoon experience, while League will report to AAA Indianapolis.

                        Bucs Option Gonzalez, Recall Johnson

With Oliver Perez on the DL and Gonzalez in AAA, the Perez-Gonzalez bobblehead night is going to be awkward.

The Pirates have sent one of their only left-handed bullpen options to AAA, replacing him with another lefty who will hopefully be more competent.

In just 9.1 innings, Mike Gonzalez has been less than stellar, being horribly unfun to pitch with an having an ERA of 3.86. He has struck out one and walked one. The Pirates have, as such, sent him down to Indianapolis for some more development. In his stead, the Bucs recalled fellow lefty Mike Johnston. This will be Johnston's second stint with the Pirates this season; he previously threw in 3.2 innings and allowed no runs, striking out two. In AAA, however, he has been phenomenal, going 34 full with an ERA of 1.85, striking out 31 and walking 8.

                          Bucs Make Moves to Rebuild

PITTSBURGH — With July nearing, the Pirates have decided to get ahead of the trade deadline game and have made a big trade with the Red Sox to bolster their young talent.

The Pirates have sent C Benito Santiago, RP Jose Mesa, 3B Ty Wigginton, and 1B Jose Leon (AA) to Beantown. In return, they've received 3B Kevin Youkilis (AAA), SS Hanley Ramirez, RF Brandon Moss (AA), and 1B Doug Mientkewicz (AAA).

Santiago, 40, has provided leadership to the young Pirates this season, but GM Goose Dennis has decided it's time to move on to younger catchers. The catcher has hit .246/.284/.413 this season, faring well against left handers. Mesa has been one of the game's best closers, tossing for a 1.97 ERA in 32 innings, striking out 24. Wigginton surprised fans this year, batting .246/.263/.435 with 9 home runs. Leon has been a solid minor leaguer, hitting for a .260 average.

Santiago and Mesa will join the Sox' major league roster, while Wigginton will go to AAA Pawtucket and Leon to the Portland Sea Dogs, the Sox' AA affiliate.

Joining the Pirates will be Youkilis and Ramirez. Youkilis has mostly played in AAA Pawtucket this season, batting .362 with 7 home runs and 48 RBI. In three games with Boston, Youkilis singled once in 10 at bats. Ramirez appears to have been injured much of the year, playing just 7 games with Boston, where he hit .333/.448/.583. The third baseman will likely start, while Ramirez will split time with Jack Wilson.

Mientkewicz will join the Indians, and has already appeared in 70 AAA games this season, batting .330 with 9 home runs; Moss will go to AA Altoona. Moss has played in the lower minor leagues this season. He batted .235 in A-ball before heading to Portland, where he batted .303 in 8 games.

For the Pirates, this trade brought on a number of corresponding roster moves. Brent Erickson was demoted to AAA Indianapolis, while Magglio Bailey and J. R. House will join the Pirates. In AAA, House batted .353 with one home run, while Bailey hit .273 in AAA and .220 in his earlier stint with the team. The Bucs also recalled reliever Joe Powell from AAA. Powell has thrown 22.2 innings with the Indians, tossing for an 0.40 ERA with 19 strikeouts.
