Hey, you couldn't expect the winning streak to last forever and at least you gave them a hell of a scare on their home floor. Speaks volumes to how far this team has come since the beginning of the season. -
Re: The Accidental Career of Guy West (CH2k8)
I think what did it, more than anything, was looking at what worked earlier in the season -- so I decided to try going to a primary 2-3 zone defense because that was so effective against Memphis in the second half. I still give up threes like candy, but if the opponent has an off shooting night, or I can stop enough of their inside shots, at least I'm finding myself in games again.
And with this team, especially compared to earlier in the season, that's about all I can ask for.Comment

at Nebraska (12-4) L: 70-62
Maybe Next Time
There was little to note about this game. The Nebraska Cornhuskers controlled it from the opening tip and their pressure defense never allowed the Wildcats to get comfortable. Despite the final score being in the single digits, Coach West's squad was never in it -- being constantly slow on defense and making poor decisions on the offensive end.
But like many games, there was one play that was at least worthwhile enough to make SportsCenter for the highlight reel -- this one by 5'9" Justin Guzman turning on the rockets in his shoes to slam it home.
Justin Guzman with the cherry pick, but the Wildcats need to improve against "beatable" opponents

Re: The Accidental Career of Guy West (CH2k8)
Just so I do not get too far behind in where I am here compared to my save, I'm going to post one more game before jumping ahead in the season. I have been taking more copious notes of my more recent games, but you know how it is: sometimes you get a run on playing and then realize "err, I haven't posted this in awhile."
Also, STEAM sale happened. There goes my nonexistent $$$.Comment

I heard Steam was having a big sale. Anything good?Comment

Re: The Accidental Career of Guy West (CH2k8)
Skyrim (finally) for $30
Fallout NV Ultimate Edition (finally) for something like $12
Civ 5 Gods & Kings + DLC I was missing for $30
and then lots of smaller (relatively speaking price wise, all below is under $5)
SW: KotOR
Psychonaughts
Binding of Issac
Trine I & II
Crusader Kings II (okay, not all under $5)
Legends of Grimrock
Sim City 4 Complete
The Longest Journey
Terraria
Dungeons of Dremore
Recettear
Portal 2 (already got 1 for free when they were offering that years ago)
Batman Arkam Asylum GotY Edition (okay for $6, and my comp can't run City -- boo).
I think this is me beginning to transition from being a console gamer, you know? I don't play too much on consoles anymore other than sports games (by the way, almost every 2K game is 50% off right now (PC only). Makes me wish I had waited to get NBA 2k12 for $10 so I could take advantage of all the mods for the PC version.
edit: oh, and you're a better person than I am re: posting.Last edited by waytofailself; 07-20-2012, 11:18 AM.Comment

Holy crap that's a ton of games! I'm transitioning over to PC gaming as well besides sports games. I'm looking at maybe buying GTA3: Vice City for $5. Could be worth some purchases in there.
Edit: 2k11 and 12 for $10? I liked 11 much more than 12. What good mods are out there for either one of those? I could be interested in pulling the trigger if it would give me a basketball game I actually enjoy for years, like CH2k8.Last edited by R1zzo23; 07-20-2012, 01:28 PM.Comment

Re: The Accidental Career of Guy West (CH2k8)
Work has still prevented me from posting in this thread, but hopefully I shall be able to bring you the conclusion of this season soon.
Just to keep things going, there is one more regular season game I want to post, then it will be on to the Tournament. How do you think the Wildcats will do in the NCAA's?
Oh wait, they won't.Comment

I play lots of Hearts of Iron III, Flights Simulator X, NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, and Formula 1 2011. I can't really see playing sports games on the PC, though, but, then again, I've never tried it.

I bought a wireless adapter for 360 controllers for the PC so if I ever wanted to dabble on sports games for the PC I would feel confident that I could get it working with the controller. Without it I wouldn't even attempt to play them on the PC.Comment

Ah, well, in the case, I guess I could see playing, then. I wouldn't want to play with a keyboard, though.Comment

tbh the only sports game I've had that lends itself well to a keyboard is the Football Manager series.Comment

Re: The Accidental Career of Guy West (CH2k8)
Friendly Confines, not Rivalry
There isn't too much that can be said about Kansas State's effort against in state rival Kansas today. The game was over nearly before it started, and while it may not be reflected in the final score line it was a game that the Jayhawks controlled from start to finish.
The Jayhawks scored early and often against the over matched Wildcats
In their first meeting with Coach West since getting eliminated by the Drexel Dragons in last year's NCAA Tournament, the Jawhawks quickly established themselves as the dominant team. Not that they needed the extra motivation -- despite its recent lopsidedness this rivalry still gets players and fans geared up.
But for the Wildcats it was a story of "here we go again," albeit this time against a clearly superior opponent. Much like earlier in the year, their perimeter defense did little to stop the Jayhawks. Furthermore, the Wildcats had trouble getting their inside players going, especially in the first half -- thus forcing bad jumpers outside instead of high percentage shots.
Normally the Wildcat's 40 first half points would be enough for a solid lead, but tonight they found themselves in a 22 point halftime deficit as the Jayhawks rolled.
The score could have been much more lopsided, but in the second half Coach Self slowed down the pace while Coach West cracked into his team. The little bit of extra work paid off. The Wildcats came alive in the second half -- especially Moses Mathis scoring 10 of his 14 points in the second period. The Wildcats looked inside first, worked the ball around, and played a much better brand of basketball.
Roger Guzman takes the ball coast to coast
But by then it was too little too late. A three at the buzzer gave Kansas State its closest deficit since the first half, but they would still go on to lose by 12. And while the fight the Wildcats showed in the second half was admirable, they need to find ways to avoid getting in huge holes in the first half.
