It's just too easy to beat, but it's annoying because I have to change my whole gameplan around it. I don't see how it is an effective defense against a team like mine. If anything, they made it extremely easy for us to score.

I used to run a Tri&2 whenever there would only be two guys on the floor that could beat me from the perimeter. I don't much anymore though because I'd get beat from someone penetrating from the wing (my guys in the triangle are too slow).

Could you offer some insight on the triangle and 2 that I'm missing to help? I guess I just don't understand it too well.

That's interesting that it is like that. In some ways that it is surprising and in other ways that doesn't surprise me much at all. I'm just gonna pretend that since my guys are D-1 basketball players, that they have some maturity about them and don't call their mommy every day before classes

I have another reason that I hate Dartmouth that I just realized. Their big man, Brody Radford, had us second (with an offered scholarship) but chose Dartmouth over us. Then he plays just 9 minutes and dominates

Lol now I'm just trying to find excuses to hate them .. I mean..

I'm sure losing back-to-back games to Columbia was not what you were expecting to kick off the conference schedule. But at least you rebounded nicely from that. Good luck against Yale!

REBOUNDING CONTINUES TO LEAD TO BROWN'S DEMISE

1/31/13 - New Haven, CT: "I really don't have an answer to your question."

That was Colby Rogers' response when asked about what he would do about the Bears' rebounding problem. In Yale's blowout victory over Brown, the Bulldogs got 20 more rebounds.

"There really isn't another word other than pathetic that comes to mind" said Rogers, "I know I sound like a broken record, but if we just tie them in the rebounding category, we win this game."

The Bulldogs scored 30 of their 79 points on second chance opportunities.

"When their off guard can grab 7 rebounds, you know that we are doing something wrong. There were literally times where you would see Cotton just come in from the wing and snag the rebound over our big guys."

Even though Brown lost by 19, they still had a great chance to win the game.

"When we cut it to about 4, I thought there could possibly be no way that we could overcome that rebounding effort. Then, of course, they scored about 7 straight on second chance opportunities and we got blown out. We got what we deserved tonight" finished Rogers.

Yea it's been a real disaster in these 4 games. We have already managed to put ourselves in a big hole. Hopefully we can steal one at Harvard. We weren't too successful last year at their house but maybe this year will be different... I hope

Ouch, outrebounded by 20? That's tough to overcome.

Houston Rockets? I don't think you're gonna win that game.

Yea that was a terrible game. And didn't you guys know? Due to Houston's lack of success lately, they've been demoted to the Ivy League!

But really, I finished the game a couple hours ago and it may have been the best game in this legacy. It was INTENSE. I'm not sure if I'll get the write-up posted until about friday though.

Second chance opportunities by the CPU make me rage with a passion. Especially when the bigger guys on your team just let the other team slide right inside for a board. Sounds like you have a good time against Harvard though.

That happened about 6 or 7 times this game. I don't think I've ever yelled as much at a video game in a LONG time.

As for the Harvard game, it was a straight battle throughout the game.

                                MUST WIN GAME FOR BROWN

2/6/13 - Cambridge, MA: "It's a must win game for us against Harvard" said Rogers during the post-game conference after losing to Yale.

It may seem too early to most people to call this a must win game but Colby Rogers has a point. Last season, Harvard won the conference with a 10-4 record. Two seasons ago, Harvard and Princeton had a tiebreaker after both teams went 12-2. Brown, currently 1-3, needs this game.

Brown's Tucker Halpern came out playing aggressive and it payed off. With 17:30 left in the first half, Keith Wright, Ivy League PotY, got hit with 2 fouls and what not see the floor for the rest of the half.

"I don't know if it was much of an improvement when they brought Okam off the bench for Wright" said Rogers, "Him being 7'0, he dominated in the first half." Dominated would be an understatement. Okam would get rebound after rebound with the Bears unable to stop him. He would end up grabbing 9 rebounds in the game, with 7 of them in the first half.

But Okam wasn't the only player on Harvard who had a great first half. Matt Brown, who is a starter only due to an injury to Christian Webster, averages 2.5 points per game. But that did not stop him from hitting 2 threes en route to tie his career high of 10 points, 8 of which were in the first half. Even though Harvard got surprise 1st halves from Okam and Brown, the Bears kept the game close with the score being 38-37 at halftime after a 3 by Taylor Wright.

"The first half was one of those times where I was just hoping and praying that Harvard would never extend the lead to 8 or 10 points" said Rogers. Coach Rogers' prayers must have been answered because the score was never outside of a 5 point lead either way.

The second half was a lot like the first half. For one, the biggest lead either team had was by 7 points. Also, there would be other players on Harvard would step up in a big way.

One big difference, however, was the return of Keith Wright. Wright would play 16 minutes for Harvard in the second half. Even though Harvard's best player returned, he never could get into a groove. The man to step up for Harvard was not Wright, but 2-guard Laurent Rivard. Rivard would hit 4 second half threes and all of them seemed to come when it hurt Brown the most.

But the Bears wouldn't go away. It was a must win game after all. Whenever Brown would need to hit a shot, they would hit it. It looked a lot like a boxing match. The whole second half, both teams taking hits one after the other. If one team scored, the other team would answer. If one team got a stop, the other would step up defensively.

Then with a little over 2 minutes left in the game, Harvard would extend their lead to the biggest of the game making it 71-64 courtesy of a Kyle Casey and 1 play. Brown would need someone to step up and to do it quickly before the game got out of hand.

The Bears would take it up the court and run the play simply known as "1." This play had been executed successfully many times this game and Rogers looked to it in order to keep the Bears alive.

"As McCarthy slipped towards the goal, Rivard came to help in the paint. Lucky for us he overhelped and Sharkey recognized it. He kicked it quickly to Ravello who reversed it to Wright for the open 3. Really, that is like our 5th option on that play. That's the first time we have gotten Wright a shot on that play in that situation." explain Rogers.

Then, coach Rogers made a gutsy call with 1:55 left: Foul. They were not yet in the bonus but with a 1:31 left, Brandyn Curry stepped up to the line for the front end.

"The goal was to extend the game as much as possible. I didn't see the point in letting Rivard shooting another 3 about 30 seconds into the shot clock. I really wanted us to foul Matt Brown but he passed it quickly to Curry and we fouled him instead" explained Rogers.

Curry, who has struggled this season with just 63% from the line, got the ball and got ready to shoot. After a couple spins with the ball, he shot. Curry and the rest of the gym watched as the ball clanged off the left side of the rim.

Coach Rogers and the Bears went back to the same play to try and get a score again. This time it wasn't the 5th option, or even the second option that got a chance. It was the 1st option that got the opportunity.

After the Bears had cut the lead to just 1, Matt Brown was fouled in the back-court. Even though the Bears put who they wanted to the line, Matt Brown sunk both free throws to make it a 73-70 game. After a McCarthy lay-up on a backdoor pass and two more free throws by Harvard, Brown had only 11 seconds left to tie the game up down by 3.

"That wasn't even what I was wanting out of the timeout. I was trying to get us to run a quick screen but McGonigil stepped up anyways and hit the shot. I don't think the defender was expecting him to just pull up like that. He looked a little caught off guard."

But what happened next caught everyone off guard.

With just 0.7 seconds left, the ball fell through the net to give Brown the victory over the Harvard Crimson.

"That was a great game" said Rogers, "The whole game was very close and it truly took the whole game to find out the winner. We really needed that win. Now we need to beat Penn tomorrow night."
