Durant's game winner downs Hawks in OT

ATLANTA -- Despite their 45-14 record, close games have not been a strength of the Thunder.

They hope tonight's game signals an end to that trend.

Kevin Durant missed a three pointer at the end of regulation that would have won the game, he was determined to not let his second chance end the same way.

With the game tied at 99 apiece in the final seconds of overtime, Russell Westbrook drove the lane and kicked to ball to Durant on the wing, and he sank a 20 foot jumper as the horn sounded to give the Thunder a two point win.

Durant finished with 41 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and three steals. Westbrook added 17 points and 9 assists to the Thunder's winning effort.

"Everything we got tonight," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said, "we really had to earn."

James Harden was the only other Thunder player to finish in double-figures with 13 points off the bench.

Atlanta fought Oklahoma City all night, pushing them to the limit. Joe Johnson led the Hawks with 29 points and Al Horford chipped in with 22 and 9 rebounds.

"This was a tough one," Hawks coach Larry Drew said. "No other way to say it. ... It was tough to get a real handle and grip on both sides of the floor."

Oklahoma City will return home for the next three games starting with the defending champion Dallas Mavericks, who currently sit third in the western conference, 11.5 games behind the Thunder.

Nowitzki sparks Mavs to 97-90 win over Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Dallas Mavericks continue to have the Oklahoma City Thunder's number.

In four meetings this season OKC is 1-3 against the defending champs, with their only win coming in a game that Dirk Nowitzki left early with an injury. Unfortunatly, for the Thunder Dirk was healthy in tonight's game.

Nowitzki scored 22 points and Jason Terry added 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Mavs defeated Oklahoma City 97-90 Monday night.

After trailing for most of game the Thunder pulled within 2 points mid-way through the 4th quarter. Then Dirk took over and Dallas held off the Thunder charge to secure the win.

"What always helps in this league is making big shots, and we got hot at the right time," Nowitzki said.

"They got hot. Let's face it," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "This is a good team. They hit a lot of 3s, and they were missing a lot of 3s early in the game."

Kevin Durant scored 29 points and grabbed a team high 12 rebounds, but was held in check in the fourth before two dunks put the game out of reach in the final minute.

Russell Westbrook had 38 points and James Harden had 10 for the Thunder who continue to struggle with inconsistent play since the All-Star break.

Oklahoma City will continue their homestand Wednesday night as they are paid a visit by the Memphis Grizzlies, who a are clinging to the 7th playoff spot.

Strong finish carries Thunder past Grizzlies 95-91

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Memphis Grizzlies are trying to hang on to a Western Conference playoff spot.

Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are fighting to stay on top.

Durant scored 34 points and hit all his 6 of free throws in the final minute to lift the Thunder to a 95-91 victory against Memphis on Wednesday night in a rematch of their epic Western Conference semifinals series last season.

One of those games went to triple overtime and another was settled after one extra period.

This one came right down to the wire, too.

"Those guys are the guys that we need to be like, from start to finish," Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said.

Despite leading the team in scoring Durant continues to struggle from the 3 point line.

"The 3s I was shooting looked good but I was missing," said Durant, who missed all six of his 3-point attempts.

Russell Westbrook scored 16 and James Harden added 13 off the bench for Oklahoma City.

Memphis was led by Rudy Gay's 19 points and 9 rebounds, Mike Conley chipped in with 11 points and a game high 11 assists.

"They're playing like they're more experienced than us right now but at the end of the day, we're still a work in progress and I like the future for this team," Gay said.

"They've got our number right now."

Oklahoma City won all regular season three meetings, weather Memphis gets another shot at redemption will be up to them.

The Thunder wrap up their three game homestand Friday against rookie of the year candidate Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Westbrook scores 32 as Thunder rally past Cavaliers

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Having beaten the Cavaliers by 35 points on their home floor earlier this season, the Thunder looked for another easy win.

                      They did not find it.

After trailing by one point at the end of the 1st quarter, the Cleveland Cavaliers took the lead by scoring first in the second and maintained the advantage until the final three minutes of the game.

Russell Westbrook slashed through the lane for tough lay-in that gave Oklahoma City finally put the Thunder ahead, then he sealed the win by making two late free throws.

"This was a good win," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "Cleveland has been playing a lot better. We knew we were in for a tough game. They have a lot of young players who are improving."

Westbrook finished with 32 points as the Thunder defeated the Cavs 91-86 on Friday night.

Kevin Durant scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds but continued to struggle with his three point shot missing all five of his attempts.

"We are close to beating those good teams, but we haven't broken through," Cavs coach Byron Scott said. "I would have liked to come in here after the game and not talk about how close we were."

Toney Douglas and Antwan Jamison led the Cavaliers with 19 points each, Kyrie Irving added 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals.

Up next for the Thunder is get-away game in New Orleans and then a quick return home to face the Sixers on the next night.

                              Thunder knock off Hornets 90-80

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant has been struggling with his shot ever since the All-Star game.

Fortunately for the Thunder Russell Westbrook has been playing some of his basketball of the season. Unfortunately Oklahoma City will be without him for 1-2 weeks.

Westbrook scored 26 points before leaving the game in third quarter with a back injury, but his effort was enough to leave the Thunder in position for a 90-80 over the Hornets.

Oklahoma City scored the first 12 points of the game thanks Westbrook's open court mastery and the Hornets never fully recovered.

Durant hit just six of his 22 shot attempts for 21 points but he managed to sink two big 4th quarter jumpers to help OKC secure the win.

Cole Aldrich filled in for Nazr Mohammed, who sat out with a MCL strain, and scored a season high 10 points. James Harden also had 10 off the Thunder bench.

Trevor Ariza led the Hornets with 22 points and Eric Gordon added 19 to the Hornets total.

The Thunder have quick turn-around as they will be back on the court tomorrow night in Oklahoma City against the Sixers.
