AROUND THE NBA - TRADE NEWS 2/3/2012

Just hours before the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers were set to meet on the court the teams made a swap of centers. Boston traded Jermaine O'Neal, Sasha Pavlovic, the 2012 first round pick they received from the Clippers and their 2013 first round pick to the Cavs for Anderson Varejao and Semih Erden. Boston will no doubt look for Varejao to replace some of the toughness they lost in the Kendrick Perkins trade. Cleveland has been the most active team in this seasons trade market, having already traded Ramon Sessions in a 3 team deal. Varejao's exit free's up salary cap space for the Cavs in the upcaoming off season.

Red-hot Kevin Durant sparks Thunder past Hornets

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Monty Williams has the New Orleans Hornets playing one of the stingiest brands of defense in the NBA. And despite what he thought was strong resistance from his team, Kevin Durant still let loose with another 30+ point outing.

Durant continued his scoring tear with 37 points and 7 rebounds, as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Hornets 81-69 on Friday night.

"That's why he's probably MVP of the league right now. You're putting a string of games together like that, you put yourself in a different class," said Williams. "He made one shot tonight, he was standing where I was. When you're playing with that kind of confidence ... he's not just a special player, he's becoming a standard for that position."

Chris Kaman scored 16 points to lead the Hornets and did so in just 16 minutes od playing time. Kaman left the game in the 2nd quarter with a lower back strain and is expected to miss the next 2-4 weeks.

Russell Westbrook had 18 points and 8 assists and Daequan Cook added 10 points as the Thunder extended their win streak to 11 games.

The Thunder will have a two day break before heading out for two sets of back-to-back games starting with Portland and Golden State and ending with Sacramento and Utah.

Thunder stay hot after beating Portland for 12th straight win

PORTLAND -- The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to tear through their NBA schedule leaving 12 straight teams in their wake.

Kevin Durant scored 30 points to lead OKC to their 2nd win of the season over the Trail Blazers 83-70.

Portland led by one after the first quarter and trailed by just 2 at halftime.

The game remained close until the 4th quarter when Serge Ibaka threw down an alley-oop from Eric Maynor to ignite the Thunder and they carried the momentum to close out the game.

LaMarcus Aldridge led the Blazers with 17 points and Wes Matthews added 10.

The Thunder face a quick turnaround as they face off against the Golden State Warriors tomorrow night. Oklahoma City took the first meeting 88-81 thanks to a 40 point performance from Durant.

Ellis pours in 41 as surging Warriors snap Thunder's 12 game win streak

OAKLAND, CA -- Even though Oklahoma City had won 12 straight games, Kevin Durant insists it's far too soon for the Thunder to start taking title.

That, says Durant, would only complicate things.

The Warriors gave the Thunder plenty of evidence of the dangers of looking ahead at this point in the season.

Monta Ellis poured in 41 points as the Warriors snapped OKC's 12 game win streak with a 105-95 victory.

Golden State used a strong second quarter where they outscored Oklahoma City 30-20 to open up a gap the Thunder were never able to close.

David Lee scored 17 with 10 rebounds and Steph Curry added 15 points and 7 assists to the Warriors effort.

"Everything felt good out there," Curry said. "I was composed and if I got myself into tough situations, I was able to get out of there. It was a matter of being aggressive, but staying smart about it."

Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 38 points, Russell Westbrook had 17 and 13 assists and Daequan Cook added 15 off the bench in place of the injured James Harden.

The Thunder will have a day to process the loss before another set of back to back road games against Utah and Sacramento.

AROUND THE NBA - TRADE NEWS 2/8/2012

The Milwaukee Bucks have been fading fast falling to 8th in the Eastern conference after a good start. In an effort to stay in the playoff race the Bucks made a move they hope will turn things around. In a deal with the Washington Wizards, Milwaukee acquired shooting guard Nick Young, voiltile power forward Andray Blatche and reserve center Hamadt N'Diaye. In return the Wizards received Stephen Jackson, Ersan Ilyasova, Darington Hobson and the Bucks 2013 1st round pick. Only time will tell if the Bucks are only making a sideways move trading one headcase in Jackson for another one in Blatche.

In other news Kenyon Martin was the first of the players to return for playing in China. Martin chose the Los Angeles Clippers as his team of choice.

Thunder out-hustle Kings for 88-66 win

SACRAMENTO -- Defense turned into offense early for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The fast start led to an easy win as the Thunder cruised past the Sacramento Kings 88-66 on Thursday night.

Oklahoma City outscored the Kings 53-38 in the first half. Kevin Durant scored 22 of his 33 points before the break.

Daequan Cook had 10 points off the Thunder bench and was their only other player in double figures.

"That was about as good as they could possibly play to start the game," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said.

"That was the best all year at the start of the game," Durant said. "The defense was on point. The offense was on point. We just clicked on all cylinders."

"They jumped on us right from the start and we could never get back in the game," Sacramento coach Paul Westphal said. "It was a great performance by them. We couldn't stop them. We couldn't score."

Marcus Thornton led Sacramento with 17 points and DeMarcus Cousins had 14 and 9 rebounds in the loss.

Scott Brooks gave benched his starters for the entire 4th quarter in hopes the extra will pay off tomorrow night as the Thunder wrap up their 4 game road trip in Utah. Oklahoma City won the first meeting with the Jazz 81-71 behind 30 points and 11 rebounds form Durant.

Russell Westbrook scores 28 points as Thunder outlast Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- With the Jazz focusing their attention on Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook was more than happy to be the star of the show.

"I was working on my shot all summer and I had lots of opportunities to shoot it tonight," Westbrook said. "I had openings I needed to take advantage of."

There were times Durant barely crossed halfcourt when Westbrook was already flying toward the hoop or spotting up for a jumper on his way to 19 points and helping the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Utah Jazz 83-78 on Friday night.

The Jazz appeared determined to limit Durant's offense -- he shot just 6 for 22 -- but Westbrook found extra room to drive to the basket and created some fast breaks.

"I was taking what the defense was giving me," Westbrook said.

James Harden added 14 points to the Oklahoma City effort off the bench.

The Jazz big men dominate the Thunder's. Al Jefferson led the way with 20 point and 13 rebounds and Derrick Favors had 10 points and 10 boards.

Oklahoma City gets a three day break before their next game, at home against the Timberwolves. The Thunder are 2-0 against Minnesota so far this season.
