      Hornets sting Thunder 89-75

NEW ORLEANS -- Playing on back-to-back nights, the Oklahoma City Thunder looked tired early against New Orleans.

Eric Gordon scored 21 points, had 5 steals and a career high 11 rebounds in the Hornets 89-75 win.

Trevor Ariza added 15 points and Jarret Jack chipped in with 12.

Russell Westbrook led the Thunder with 25 points and 8 assists but also turned the ball over 6 times.

The Hornets jumped out to a 7 point lead after the first quarter and the Thunder never recovered.

Oklahoma City will return home to face the New York Knicks before heading out on 4 game East Coast road swing. The Knicks defeated the Thunder 107-97 in Madison Square Garden back on November 8th. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 27 points in the win.

Westbrook's career high leads Thunder past Knicks

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder are taking all of the drama out of their home games.

Westbrook exploded out of the gate scoring 21 first quarter points on his way to a career high 46 as the Thunder avenged an early season loss to the Knicks 97-82.

The Thunder are still without the services of star Kevin Durant, before the first quarter ended the Knicks would lose their star small forward as well.

After hitting his first four shots Carmelo Anthony fell to the court in a heap with a lower back strain that caused him to miss the rest of the game.

New York threatened to take the game over after halftime by outscoring the Thunder 31-21 in the third quarter, but OKC put the game on ice by holding the Knicks to just 13 fourth quarter points.

A'mare Stoudemire led the Knicks with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Toney Douglas added 17.

Nick Collison was the only member of the Thunder to score in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

Oklahoma City will look to keep the momentum going as they head out on a 4 game east coast road trip. First up is visit to Boston to face the Celtics on Martin Luther King Day. It will be the first meeting between the two top teams in their respective conferences and a possible Finals preview.

Thunder handle Celtics 88-73 in Durant's return

BOSTON -- Kevin Durant hit a 3-pointer and then shimmied his hands down his torso, bent his body at the knees and strutted down the sideline in celebration.

In his first game back from injury Durant scored 22 as the Thunder the league leading Celtics 88-73.

Paul Pierce scored 20 points, Ray Allen had 13 points and Rajon Rondo had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the Celtics. Rajon Rondo scored 12 points with nine rebounds and nine assists for Boston, which lost just their seventh time this season.

"None of us likes to lose; that's the frustrating part," Pierce said.

Oklahoma City pulled away in second half thanks to a 21-10 3rd quarter advantage.

"We stayed with it," Durant said. "We made some good shots. Our offense is predicated on the drive-and-kick; that's what we work on every day."

James Harden had nice game off the Thunder scoring 17 points and Daequan Cook; who also returned from an injury, added 12.

Kendrick Perkins had five points and eight rebounds in his first game back in Boston since the trade that sent him to Oklahoma City and broke up the starting lineup from the Celtics' 2008 NBA championship team.

"Mentally, I was out of it," said Perkins, the 27th pick in the 2003 draft. "It was unbelievable. I really appreciated it. It was something they didn't have to do."

Perkins went over to the Celtics bench before the opening tip to hug the coaches and chest-bump some of his former teammates, and midway through the first quarter a video tribute was played on the scoreboard. The crowd gave him a standing ovation, which Perkins acknowledged by walking to center court alone and waving.

"It was emotional for him. He grew up here," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "He's loved by his former coach, teammates and the fans, and rightfully so. He does everything that you want your player to do. ... That's a classy organization, for what they did on the scoreboard."

The Thunder will continue their road trip in two days as they hit the nations capital to face the Wizards.

Durant springs for 36 as Thunder hold off Wizards

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Oklahoma City Thunder have the NBA's leading scorer in Kevin Durant and lead the Northwest Division.

Durant scored 36 points as the Thunder held off the young Washington Wizards 97-92.

Russell Westbrook surpassed the 5000 point mark for his career thanks to 14 points in the game, he also added 8 assists to his stat line. James Harden made a big contribution off the bench scoring 20 points.

The Wizards refused to let the Thunder out their sights and kept the close all night. Nick Young led the team with 24 points and Jordan Crawford chipped in with 13 points in 13 minutes off the Washington bench.

Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference by three games over the surging Los Angeles Lakers who have won nine out of their last 10 games.

The Thunder continue the east coast road swing Friday night in Philadelphia as they face the Sixers.

                            Durant, Thunder crush Nets

NEWARK, N.J. -- The Oklahoma City Thunder found a third ingredient to go along with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook against the New Jersey Nets, some defense.

Durant had 35 points and 10 rebounds, Westbrook added 25 points and seven assists and the Thunder limited the Nets to 40 percent shooting from the field, including 6 of 21 from long range, in an 101-81 victory Saturday night.

Thunder coach Scott Brooks gave a lot of the credit to his guards, who made the Nets take some tough shots.

"Defense is an ingredient in everything for us," said Durant, who said he made a conscious effort to go to the boards. "We got out with steals and got some fast-break points. Guys played together tonight and that's what we need for us to win."

"As a team, we did a good job of coming out and defending and getting a win on the road," Westbrook said.

James Harden added 13 points, 5 rebounds and three assists off the bench for Oklahoma City.

MarShon Brooks had 16 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Nets. Deron Williams 11 points and Anthony Morrow added 14.

"It just wasn't going our way," said Williams, who was in foul trouble for most of the night, "This is a good team we played. They lost 10 games all season. We knew it was going to be a tough task and we played them pretty well the first half of the game."

The victory was the Thunder's seventh straight against the Nets.

The Thunder return home for the next two games against the Hawks and Bucks. They will be without Thabo Sefolosha for 2-4 weeks with a severe ankle sprain.
