Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo

SALT LAKE CITY -- It's Hard to believe that a Basketball Franchise like the Utah Jazz haven't won an NBA Championship. When you look at the two players that gave the Jazz dominance in the Western Conference in the Mid 90's. John Stockton and Karl Malone. But you can understand why when in the two NBA Finals they competed in they were pipped to the championship by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and the Chicago Bulls who had even more dominance in the 1990's than the UTAH Jazz. The closest the Jazz have come since then were the 2006 Western Conference Finals under the leadership off Point Guard Deron Williams and long standing coach Jerry Sloan.

Hall of Famers - Malone (Left) Stockton (Right)

But Since these days times have changed in Salt Lake City Jerry Sloan underwent an emotional retirement and Deron Williams was Traded to the what was then the New Jersey Nets now the Brooklyn Nets but in return for Williams the Jazz Received a Draft Picks from NJ (which would turn out to be a lottery pick in the 2011 NBA Draft) and former All-Star PG Devin Harris and Promising Bigman Derrick Favours.

This article is written as Jazz Management have parted ways with GM Kevin O'Connor and Appointed their new GM who was a surprising appointment with little to no NBA experience and how to run a franchise but the new GM Liam Mackenzie is determined to start a new era for the Utah Jazz.

"I am happy to have been give this position and look forward to starting a new era in the Utah Jazz franchise. I am hoping I can help erase past disappointments and shortcomings by taking this franchise forward" - Liam Mackenzie

Utah Jazz Trade - Round 1 pick 5, Gordon Hayward
          Charlotte Trade - Harrison Barnes

Note: There was some stupid draft night trades which made me think I should have controlled all 30 teams like Beal and MKG were traded and Anthony Davis went no.2 after No.1 who was eventually traded MKG.

Utah Jazz sign Harrison Barnes and Jordan Taylor to their rookie contracts.

Sign Gerald Green to a 2y/4.14 million contract
Sign J.J Redick to a 2y/5.00 million contract

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo

SALT LAKE CITY -- After a disappointing 2011-12 Regular season the Utah Jazz will be looking to recover when the new look roster opens the 2012-13 campaign at Energy Solutions Arena when Athletic Point Guard John Wall and the Washington Wizards come to town.

But The Washington Wizards will also be looking to make amends too as they finished last season with the worst record in the league 19-63 and they also lost their Number 1 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft to the Toronto Raptors. But they were shocked when Michael Kidd Gilchrist would be taken number one instead of college player of the year Anthony Davis.

Jazz.com asked new head coach George Karl about the upcoming season and how he feels it should go and he said: " I think we can mayne sneak into the 8th seed in a tough conference but the vibes in the locker room are positive and we have some up and coming young talent to which we added too in this years draft and we are looking to make amends to last season and im sure the fans want that too"

John Wall will be looking to lead his Wizards to victory on Friday night.

Wall,Crawford and Turnovers too much as Jazz fall to Wizards on Home opener

SALT LAKE CITY -- Not the Openning the Utah Jazz wanted to the 12-13 Season with a blow-out 113-85 loss to the John Wall led Washington Wizards.

The Jazz and Wizards squared off with the two best ranked offences in the NBA but it would be John Wall who would play second fiddle to his Backcourt partner Jordan Crawford who poured in 37 of the Wizards 113 points at the EnergySolotions Arena in Salt Lake City.

John Wall dunks on Gerald Green

The Wizards got off to a hot start with Crawford scoring 6 of the Wizards 10 points in the opening 7 mins and John Wall was 3/3 from the field come the 5 minute mark in the 1st. But in the second quarter the Jazz would reply with efficient scoring of the bench from young bigmen Enes Kanter and Derrick Favours who were both 3/3 off the bench come HT where the Jazz went in with the score at 46-49 with the points leaders for each Paul Millsap with 10 and Crawford with 17 pts.

Alec Burks scored 12 points with 2/5 from 3pt range but it wasnt enough

In the second half the Jazz's lead was fast wiped out as they piled up their turnover count which was the main reason they couldn't get as much possessions as the Wizards therefore not having the same efficiency as the Wizards. The Jazz would have to quarters after the half with less than 20 pts where the Wizards would pull away with two sub 30pt quarters leading to a opening day blow-out loss to the Wizards.

The Jazz coach George Karl would have a few words to say after the game:

"We Just couldnt take care of the ball out there tonight leading to sloppy possessions and being left for dead on the fast break and something needs to change in the next game"

Hopefully it can as the Jazz will be on a road trip to Toronto to visit the Raptors hoping to make amends but it won't be easy as the Raptors and #1 Pick Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will be a tough team to beat.

Jazz fall to 0-2 in OT thriller in Canada

Toronto -- The Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors played out a thriller which went all the way to overtime where the Jazz fought back from an 18 point deficit after HT to push the game to OT with an Alec Burks 3 pointer with no time on the clock in the 4th Q.

The Toroto Raptors came out of the gate the stronger team with their young PF Ed Davis rebounding the offensive glass aggressively this would help him on his way to 23 rebounds on the night. Star Raptors center Andrea Bargnani started of cold but would heat up later on in the game but the story would not be the same for high flying shooting guard Demar DeRozan who almost had a triple double to help the raptors on the way to the W where they shot 56% into the half.

For the Jazz young big men Enes Kanter and Derrick Favours would again be key off the bench for the Utah Jazz comeback cause after the half as well as the two starting bigs Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. When the Jazz trimmed the Raptors lead to 10 the Jazz's rookie forward Harrison Barnes would block #1 Draft pick Michael Kidd Gilchrist and the Jazz would ride momentum after that as early in the 4th Quarter Enes Kanter would hit an tough contact up and under and convert on the and one to trim the Raptors lead to six. The Jazz did take the lead at about the 5 minute mark but and one's from Andrea Bargnani and Demar DeRozan would give the Raptors a 6 point lead with 3 minutes to go. The Jazz Center Al Jefferson at one point grabbed 4 offensive rebounds in a row but the Jazz could not convert on the second chance points. but Alec Burks would hit a game tying 3 with no time on the clock to take the game into OT.

Burks explodes as he takes the game to OT

"It felt good when we came back to tie the game and for me to hit the three to tie it was amazing I could hear coach Karl shouting - Take the shot kid - and I was a little nervous but relieved when I made it" - Alec Burks on his game tying three

But it was in OT that DeRozan and Bargnani were too much for the Jazz defence as they would combine for the full 10 points. The Jazz had a chance to win the game again with no time on the clock as Alec Burks grabbed his own miss and would kick it out to an open Devin Harris who would miss the game winning basket.

Jazz coach George Karl was asked about the game and he said: "We showed great heart and resiliency to come back form that kind of a deficit but sometimes your just not the best team and that was us tonight but we can take positives and go back to Utah with out heads held high and hopefully we can erase the first 2 games and get the W"

The Jazz will try and get their first win at home to their former Star PG Deron Williams and the New Jersey Nets as he returns to his old stomping ground.

Jazz handle Nets at home, Get first win off the season

SALT LAKE CITY -- Jazz fans will be feeling a mixture of relief and happiness as the finally grabbed their first win against the New Jersey Nets and it might make it that much sweeter because they were led by their former Point Guard Deron Williams.

This game was the complete opposite of the first two games that the Jazz had played in. It was much more back and forth as both teams were going at each other early in the 2nd quarter there had already been 7 lead changes. and it was the same story for the Jazz as their bench played a significant part in the games outcome. Momentum was beginning to shift as Deron Williams blew an open dunk on the break away and the Jazz fans let him know about it.He seemed to struggle after this forcing many of his shots but the teams kept at each other with MarShon Brooks and Brook Lopez piling points on the Jazz D. But the Jazz rode Paul Millsap into the half as he had 11 pts.The Jazz continued their aggressive offensive rebounding through their tenacious bigmen. Before the half Nets rookie Andrew Nicholson converted an and 1 to give the Nets a 46-49 lead into the half.

Alec Burks gave another efficient performance with 19 points

After the half Paul Millsap was just draining jumpers for fun hitting on his first 3 of 4 shots giving helping the Jazz to an 8-0 run after the half but the Nets would fight back and score 9 unanswered points which was helped by Brook Lopez limiting Jazz Center Al Jefferson's production points where he would finish with only 4 but he would still rebound well. In the middle of the 3rd quarter a MarShon Brooks and one would give the Jazz the highest lead of the game at 10. The play of the game came at the end of the 3rd Q where Devin Harris would turn the ball over and Brooks would break only to be chased down and blocked by Alec Burks, Lopez would then grab the rebound and he would be rejected by Millsap and the momentum from this would ignite the EnergySolutions Arena crowd. While Brook Lopez was giving Al Jefferson probelms down low and limiting his production yonung bigman Enes Kanter was showing that he could contribute alot Offensively and Defensively as he would block a shot form Lopez and get him into foul trouble at the other end.

In the fourth quarter their had already been 13 lead changes and 7 ties but the Jazz would take the final lead of the game through Devin Harris and shot 47% in the second half compared to their 40% in the 1st and close the game 102-106.

The Jazz will hope this win will spark a run as in their next two games they get a break from eastern conference opposition and face the two Los Angeles clubs as their first two Western Conference opposition and both will be played infront of the Jazz crowd.

Blake Griffin and Chris Paul will be looking to kill of the Jazz's momentum early

Barnes will miss 1-2 weeks with lower back strain

SALT LAKE CITY -- Rookie Forward Harrison Barnes was injured late in the 4th quarter as he was shooting a 3 in the Jazz's win against New Jersey. Team doctors have done the scan and have revealed that he has a lower back strain and will miss a week to two weeks. It is unknown who will filled the void at the SF position for the Jazz against the Clippers will coach George Karl start newly acquired Gerald Green or will veteran Raja Bell be put in at the 3 or will the two share minutes. Many questions left pondering the minds of Jazz fans and we will just have to wait and see come game-time.

Barnes was averaging 14.0 ppg for the Jazz in the three games he's played so far and was acquired in a draft day trade with the Bobcats.

Wallace has had a slow start to the season averaging only 8.7 points in 32.7 minutes for the Nets

NBA.COM understands that the New Jersey Nets have inked Gerald Wallace to a 5 yr/33 million dollar contract extension. Gerald Wallace was unsure that they would renew his contract as the Nets picked up his 1 year team option at the end of last season and he was going into free agency at the end of this season. Two other players that were inked to contract extensions this week were Chase Budinger (3yr 5 million) and Portland guard Jamal Crawford who's terms were not disclosed.

It is understood that the Raptors have traded their former NO 1 overall pick in 2005 Andrea Bargnani to the Golden State Warriors for their center who was traded to them at the dealine last year Andrew Bogut who goes to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors also receive Golden State's 2014 1st round pick.

Bogut will give the Raptors the defensive presence they have lacked since losing Chris Bosh to Miami, the presence they have never had as much of with Bargnani who was relied on for more of a scoring punch more than his defence. Bargnani brings his scoring ability to Golden State which will help out Stephen Curry and will replace the production they lost when they traded away Monta Ellis to the Bucks. Bargnani had his first all-star season last year averaging 24 ppg and he is doing just as well this season averaging 23 ppg whole also rebounding reasonably well.

Clippers handle Jazz in Utah with lockdown D

Salt Lake City -- Chris Paul's Clippers shut down the Jazz's offense in their own back yard in their blowout win tonight. From the off Paul was just untouchable and showed why he might just be the best Point Guard in the NBA scoring 6 of the clippers first 14 points.

He was drawing fouls at will in the Jazz paint and troubling AL Jefferson who had two fouls in the opening 2 minuets of the game. Coming out of the second Q in the first 4 minuets shooting 4/4. Going into the half the score was 58-41 to the Clippers.

After the break the onslaught continued as they would continue to punish the Jazz hitting almost every contested shot and shooting an astonishing 57% FG. The Jazz double team gave CP3 problems but still didn't slow his production down as he wold finish on 28 points for the game. The Clippers look like an early candidate for the playoffs and looked very strong tonight.

Looks like I might be getting the stat glich which is a bit dissapointing as the Blazers and Mavs have somehow played 36 games already in a month and a half!

                              Transaction report

Dwight Howard has signed a 6 yr/ $127.22 million deal with the Orlando Magic which means that he is commited to the Orlando Magic and maybe they are planning to improve the roster and tying down Howard and building around him is their plan. He certainly becomes on of the highest paid players is the league with this deal.

The Sacramento Kings have tied down their young guard and one of their so called centrepieces Tyreke Evans. He signed a 6 year deal worth just over $95 million.

The San Antonio Spurs have re-signed their veteran Guard Manu Ginobili to a 3 year 15.29 million contract.

Current Players of the Week Nov 25-Dec 1st
