Morehead State (0-1) vs. Houston (1-0)
    Hofheinz Pavilion
    Houston, TX
    November 9th, 2007

Both Morehead State (0-1) and Houston (1-0) opened their seasons up today as the Cougars outlasted the Eagles 56-49. Houston found itself in a hole early as the Cougars could not get anything to fall for them. Houston trailed 26-16 at halftime and found itself shooting under 25% from the field.

After a fiery speech in the locker room, however, the Cougars rallied back. The Cougars would go on a 13-3 run right out of the break and would go on to lead by as many as 10 points throughout the rest of the half. In the end, the Eagles never got blown out, but they were never really able to get back into it, either.

Both teams struggled offensively, but Houston held a definite advantage on the glass, where they reeled in 13 offensive rebounds. In total, the Cougars held a 42-31 rebounding advantage.

"I'm not one for moral victories, but I definitely saw some things to build on out there tonight," beamed Coach Frizzell after his team's seven-point loss. "We played well on the road and never really let the pressure get to us. A lot of teams may have folded once Houston came rolling back like that, but we hung in there and stayed composed. We didn't win, but we kept it close. If we could have just gotten a few more rebounds, we may have had a chance to win."

Dion Dowell led Houston with 14 points and five rebounds while Rob McKiver added 12 points.

Les Simmsons led Morehead State with 10 points and six rebounds. Leon Buchanon, usually considered to be the Eagles' best player, struggled shooting the basketball, but still managed tally nine points and a couple assists in 26 minutes. Maze Stallworth played well from off the bench as he added seven points.

Morehead State will host Western Illinois next Tuesday. It will likely be their first, and only, non-conference game in which the Eagles will be the favorite.

Nice to see you taking on coach mode. It's very rewarding and frustrating at the same time, and it requires you to really look past the overall rating to find what works best for your team.

If you want a cheap tip, look below.

Thanks. Yeah, it can be frustrating, but it is definitely a different experience. Tendencies certainly matter a lot. Some players are scared to take an open shot while others will play in hero ball mode whether their shot is going in or not! There is nothing more frustrating than see one guy end 2-2 from the field with two swishes while another guy throws up seven shots in four minutes and misses them all!

As for the tip, yes, I think I will avoid that route. Even when you are playing the games, you can also recruit tall guys and they will dominate on the glass. This game doesn't simulate length down low very well. There are a lot of college players in the 6'8" range that can rebound exceptionally while there are some seven-footers that struggle rebounding.

Like the lack of turnovers, it's just something you have to deal with in this game, though. The game is not perfect, but it's pretty good.

I really need to design some plays, I suppose. I'm just using the default playbooks right now.

By the way, Merry Christmas to all!

          vs.
Western Illinois (0-1) vs. Morehead State (1-1)
          Ellis Johnson Arena
          Morehead, KY
          November 13th, 2007

Coach Frizzell got his first career win this evening as his Morehead State Eagles (1-1) outlasted the visiting Western Illinois Leathernecks (0-1) 68-58.

For the second consecutive game, the Eagles put on a strong showing on the defensive end of the floor, especially in the second half. Western Illinois was held to only 37% from the floor and six-for-22 from downtown. The only aspect that kept the Leathernecks in the game was their offensive rebound, where they garnered 11. Both teams tallied 33 rebounds apiece.

"We need to do better on the glass," explained Coach Frizzell. "We got beat a few times down low while we were running the 1-3-1 and I can live with that, but there's really no excuse not to grab the defensive rebound if we are running man-to-man defense. I don't put a lot of emphasis into running on the break. We have to rebound the basketball in order to start our offense, so there's no point in running to the opposite end of the floor unless we know that we have the basketball in the first place."

T.J. Clark was on fire from three-point range for the Eagles as the freshman shooting guard led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points. He hit six of his eight attempts from three-point range and seven of his 12 attempts overall. Maze Stallworth also proved to be efficient off the bench as he scored 11 points while John Lamb hit three treys en route to nine points.

The Eagles will travel to Bowling Green, KY to take on their cross-state rivals from the MAC on Saturday afternoon.

Wow T.J. Clark went off! It's always nice when your team hits from downtown like that.

Very efficient game from Clark, nice win. And looking at Faried's real life numbers, he was putting up 10 & 8 as a freshman so he's got some work to do.

Yeah, he's a nice shooter when he's got it going. Stallworth also can fill it up, though he's quite streaky. Lamb is the best pure shooter we have, though.

Yes, he does have work to do. I don't think he'll do quite as well in real life, though we'll see. In any case, he should be better and better as his career goes on. Simmons has slightly better ratings (but is one inch shorter) as of now, but he's a junior and he'll be gone after next season.

                Merry Christmas, everyone!

Morehead State (1-2) dropped its second game of the year this afternoon against the Bowling Green Falcons (1-2) on the road. The Falcons got off to a 21-5 start as the Eagles were all out of sorts in the early going. However, Morehead State would get its act together and eventually take a slim lead in the second half. In the end, however, the Falcons would pull back ahead as they would win going away 72-61 on a 14-3 run to end the game.

Ryne Hamblet led the Falcons with 25 points and four rebounds. Hamblet hit eight of his 11 shots from the field and four of his five three-point attempts. Nate Miller also added 14 points, seven boards, and three assists.

John Lamb was the only reliable contributor for the Eagles tonight as he hit five threes from off the bench for 15 points.

Bowling Green out-rebounded the Eagles 43-24 this afternoon as Morehead State was once again dominated on the glass.

"It's a troublesome aspect of the game for us thus far," remarked Coach Frizzell about his team's struggles rebounding. "We've gotten killed on the offensive boards in our first three games and it's something we're going to have to fix if we want to win basketball games."

Morehead State will head into another buzzsaw next week as the Eagles will travel to Norman, OK to take on the Sooners.

He's certainly a really good scorer. He and Stallworth (despite his lackluster game at Bowling Green) give us some good scoring off our bench that gives us a big advantage during certain portions of the game.

Quiet night from Blake Griffin, and real rough shooting performance from your guys.

I play with the original named rosters, so Blake isn't rated all that greatly. I think he was a 78 OVR.

Tough loss, based on the numbers Morehead State didn't do too bad aside from the 3PT shooting; Marshall had the clear advantage there. Hopefully conference play will a lot kinder than the out of conference has been so far. Though with Creighton and Murray State in the same conference, I'm not sure how much more lenient it will be.
